Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren bietet die Möglichkeit, die Borstenbündel mit einer relativ kleinen Spritzeinheit an dem Bürstenkopfgrundkörper zu fixieren. Beim Umspritzen wird vorzugsweise die zum Füllen der Schale durch Hindurchspritzen des Kunststoffs durch die die Schale begrenzende Wandung des Bürstengrundkörpers vorgesehene Einspritzöffnung überspritzt und damit außenseitig überdeckt. Die Umspritzung sollte vorzugsweise derart erfolgen, dass der umlaufende Rand des Bürstenkopfgrundkörpers umfänglich umspritzt wird, wodurch ein weiterer Schleimhautschutz an der äußeren Umfangsfläche des vorzugsweise aus einer Hartkomponente gebildeten Bürstenkopfgrundkörpers vorgesehen wird. Die Umspritzung bildet somit einen umfänglichen Stoßschutz aus. Sofern die Schale durch Hindurchspritzen des Kunststoffs durch eine relativ dünne Wandung der Schale gefüllt wird, bietet dies den Vorteil, dass mit relativ geringen Drücken gearbeitet werden kann, da der Fließweg vom Einspritzpunkt zu der Schale äußerst gering ist. Dies hat insbesondere Vorteile für die Stellung der Borstenbündel nach Befestigung derselben in der Schale. Bei hohen Einspritzdrücken und/oder Einspritzgeschwindigkeiten besteht das grundlegende Problem, dass diese aus der voreingestellten Lage verschoben werden und nach Erstarren der eingespritzten Kunststoffmasse in dieser verschobenen Anordnung und Ausrichtung fixiert sind. Eine solche Beeinträchtigung muss beim Einspritzen mit geringeren Geschwindigkeiten und/oder geringen Drücken nicht befürchtet werden. Gemäß einer weiteren bevorzugten Ausgestaltung der vorliegenden Erfindung werden beim Umspritzen vorzugsweise ferner an der Außenseite des Bürstenkopfgrundkörpers vorgesehene, sich üblicherweise in Längsrichtung der Borstenbündel ausgebildete Schlitze zur Ausbildung von die Oberseite überragenden Reinigungselementen von der Unterseite des Bürstenkopfgrundkörpers mit einem thermoplastischen Elastomer durchspritzt. Die Längsschlitze können hierbei umfänglich durch das Material des Bürstenkopfgrundkörpers geschlossen sein. Das Einsiegeln der Borstenbündel 24 in den Kunststoff 30 bietet die Möglichkeit, durch geeignete Wahl des Kunststoffs eine hohe gestalterische Variation zu erreichen. Der Bürstenkopfgrundkörper 5 dient lediglich der Ausbildung einer Schale, die insbesondere beim nachfolgenden außenseitigen Umspritzen an der fertigen Bürste nur noch kaum zu erkennen ist. Der Bürstenkopfgrundkörper bildet das mechanische Gerippe der fertigen Bürste aus. Durch Einfüllen des Kunststoffs in die Schale und Umspritzen besteht die Möglichkeit, unterschiedliche Gestaltungen zu verwirklichen. Durch Auflegen der Lochfeldplatte auf den Rand der einen Schale kann an der Oberseite der Bürste ein glatter Abschluss und Übergang erzielt werden. Die mitunter beim Einsatz von Lochfeldplatten zu erkennenden Nähte an dem fertigen Produkt an derjenigen Stelle, an der die Lochfeldplatte innerhalb der Kavität in das Spritzgießwerkzeug übergeht, können weitestgehend vermieden werden. Darüber hinaus besteht die Möglichkeit, die von den Borstenbündeln 24 durchragte Oberfläche aus einem thermoplastischen Elastomer auszubilden, was sich insbesondere bei der Herstellung von Zahnbürsten zum Schleimhautschutz empfiehlt. Das mit der vorliegenden Erfindung vorgestellte Verfahren lässt sich wirtschaftlich für die Produktion von Massenartikeln mittels Kunststoffspritzgießen einsetzen. Ferner ist es beim druckarmen Einfüllen von Kunststoff denkbar, den Bürstenkopfgrundkörper allein als Formnetz zu nutzen, das durch die Lochfeldplatte abgedeckt ist. Claims (13)
- A method of producing a brush, in particular a toothbrush, in which a main brush head body (5) is moulded to form at least one shell (8), which is open at the top and has a substantially continuous bottom, at least one bristle tuft (24) is inserted into the shell (8) with its attachment end, which is provided by partial melting with a thickened portion (28), and the bristle tuft (24) is fixed to the main brush head body (5) by filling the shell (8) with plastics (30).
- A method according to claim 1, characterised in that the shell (8) is filled by injection of the plastics (30) through an injection orifice (16) formed in the shell (8).
- A method according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the plastics (30) is injected through the rear wall (14) of the main brush head body (5).
- A method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a bristle field (26) comprising a plurality of bristle tufts (24) is fitted in a perforated field plate comprising retaining channels corresponding to the bristle field (26), which plate is placed on the top of the edge (10) on filling of the shell (8).
- A method according to claim 4, characterised in that the perforated field plate seals the edges of the shell (8) on filling.
- A method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the main brush head body (5) is injection-moulded from a hard component as part of a main brush body with a brush neck (6) and a handle (4).
- A method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the shell (8) is filled with a soft component, in particular a thermoplastic elastomer.
- A method according to claim 7, characterised in that the thermoplastic elastomer is introduced into the shell (8) to be flush with the edges.
- A method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the outside of the main brush head body (5) is encapsulated by injection moulding once the bristle tufts (24) have been fixed in place.
- A method according to claim 9, characterised in that, on encapsulation by injection moulding, the injection orifice (16) formed through the main brush head body (5) for filling the shell (8) is overmoulded.
- A method according to claim 9 or claim 10, characterised in that the peripheral edge (10) of the main brush head body (5) is encapsulated by injection moulding around its circumference.
- A method according to any one of claims 9 to 11, characterised in that, on encapsulation by injection moulding, thermoplastic elastomer is injection moulded from the bottom through at least one recess (18) formed in the outside of the main brush head body (5) in the longitudinal direction of the bristle tufts (24) to form at least one cleaning element (32) projecting beyond the top of the main brush head body (5).
- A brush, in particular a toothbrush, having a main brush head body (5), which forms at least one shell (8) which is open at the top and which is filled with plastics (30), at least one bristle tuft (24) being fixed in the shell (8) with its attachment end, which comprises a thickened portion, in an anchorless manner.
