An dem Transportpfad befinden sich zu jeder Transportstufe an der einen Seite mehrere angetriebene, umlaufende Transportriemen 6 übereinander zum Transport und Beschleunigen der Sendungen 7,8 mittels Reibkraft. Auf der anderen Seite ist ein still stehendes Rückhalteband 1 angeordnet, das über die Bandlänge zwei schmale streifenförmige, erhabene Kontaktoberflächen 11 aufweist. Die Transportriemen 6 und die Kontaktoberflächen 11 sind in der Höhe zueinander versetzt, so dass sie in der Ruhestellung in Richtung des Vektors auf der Sendungsbreitseite überlappen können, ohne dass die Reibflächen bei fehlenden Sendungen 7,8 im Transportpfad einander berühren und dadurch schnell verschleißen. Damit kann auch für sehr dünne Sendungen 7,8 der nötige Anpressdruck erzeugt werden. Der durch das Rückhalteband 1 auf die Sendungen 7,8 ausgeübte Anpressdruck wird durch jeweils in einem Drehpunkt D2 gelagerte Andruckhebel 5 erzeugt, an deren von dem Rückhalteband 1 abgewandten Enden jeweils eine Zugfeder 9 angreift. Auf der Rückseite des Rückhaltebandes 1 sind elastische Riemenschlaufen 2 mit jeweils einer schmalen, vertikal verlaufenden Schweißnaht 10 in Längsrichtung des Rückhaltebandes 1 befestigt (für jede Vereinzelungsstufe zwei). Jede Riemenschlaufe 2 wird über zwei mit Bordscheiben versehene Andruckrollen 3, die an den Enden eines Koppelhebels 4 drehbar angebracht sind, unter Vorspannung geführt. Dabei laufen die Bordscheiben in Schlitzen des Rückhaltebandes 1. Auf der anderen Seite des Rückhaltebandes 1 zwischen den Schlitzen befindet sich die obere erhabene Kontaktoberfläche 11, wodurch sich auch die Bordscheiben nicht negativ auswirken. Der Koppelhebel 4 wiederum ist beweglich über ein Drehlager D1 annähernd mittig auf dem freien Ende des Andruckhebels 5 gelagert. Der Andruckhebel 5 wird dabei über die Zugfeder 9 in Richtung Rückhalteband 1 gedrückt. Beim Transport der Sendungen 7,8 durch den Transportpfad wird das Rückhalteband 1 entsprechend der Sendungsdicken von den Transportriemen 5 weg ausgelenkt. Dabei sind die Andruckhebel 5 also formschlüssig mit dem Rückhalteband 1 gekoppelt und jede beim Passieren der Sendungen 7,8 auftretenden Längsverschiebungen des Rückhaltebandes 1 gegenüber den Andruckhebeln 5 werden über die Riemenschlaufen 2 ausgeglichen. Die maximal erlaubte Längsverschiebung beträgt ±L-S/2 (L = Länge des Koppelhebels, S = Breite der Schweißnaht). Da das Rückhalteband 1 relativ breit ist, befindet sich zur Gewährleistung des notwendigen Andruckes über die gesamte Rückhaltebandbreite auf der Drehachse jedes Drehlagers D2 unterhalb des beschriebenen Koppelhebels 5 jeweils ein zweiter drehbar gelagerter Koppelhebel 12, an dem ebenfalls eine Zugfeder angreift.
