Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for selecting and displaying travel data with the steps:
- This procedure is used to display a catalog page from a travel catalog on a computer.
- Programs are known which process the data contained in the respective price parts of the catalogs and calculate and output the expected travel price for a trip.
- the Internet also offers directly bookable travel. For this purpose, so-called booking machines are used. These save the passage in the travel agency.
- a booking engine is a database of currently available travel offers that together with a search engine compiles offer lists for the customer. The booking engines only show offers that are actually available. The customer first makes information in an input mask. Subsequently, travel is selected with the booking engine and displayed in a hit list. The link to the pictures and texts about a hotel is made using the booking code of the organizer.
- the disadvantage here is that the customer initially only experiences the travel data, such as hotel name, destination, travel time and price. Even a small attached picture is only little suitable, the desire to book just book this trip.
- the pleasant impression created by the customer when leafing through the catalog is not generated by a booking engine. Only when the customer clicks on the offer in the hit list, he receives more information and pictures. He receives the information only after the database search. The customer will therefore continue to consult travel catalogs in order to get inspired by the database search and get one
- Travel data usually includes information about the destination, for example a country or region and a country located in the country, as well as the accommodation, e.g. a hotel name. Travel dates usually also include dates, i. Departure date from the place of origin and a return date or the duration of the journey. Finally, the travel dates include a price and the provider of the trip.
- Travel deals can include photographs of the hotel and descriptions of location, amenities and other special features. In addition to this usual information but also video sequences or the like can be used to describe the hotel. Typically, with such information, the accommodations are presented in a particularly advantageous manner.
- the texts and pictures advertise the object.
- Accommodation includes everything that is offered in travel catalogs. This includes all types of hotels, but also trips that offer other types, such as pensions, tents, campers, etc. or even complete round trips.
- the information is in an analogue form, for example as an expression, it must be digitized. This can be done by scanning, typing etc. The digitized data is stored. The information can already be found in digital form, for example as a print template. Then, if necessary, the information can be converted to another format. In particular, the information can be assigned to categories. Thus, categories such as facilities, location, sports facilities, room facilities, booking code, hotel category, etc. can be formed.
- Information about the origin of the data includes in particular the provider, the catalog name and the booking code of the provider.
- the digitized data is then stored in a data record along with data containing information about the source of that data.
- the physical storage can also be done at different locations and it is only created a record with the link.
- the address of the respective image or text file can also be stored. The image or text file may then be retrieved and displayed as needed using the address stored in the record.
- Each record is marked with an identification code.
- the identification code belongs to the accommodation of the respective data record. Two data sets from different suppliers for the same accommodation will then have the same identification code despite different booking codes. This is particularly useful as the catalogs often use different names for the same hotel.
- Accommodations that appear in two different catalogs of the same provider are distinguished by the catalog designation.
- the query of one or more selection criteria is usually carried out by means of conventional input masks on the screen of a personal computer.
- the computer can be connected via the Internet or another network to the computer on which the database is managed.
- the provider, catalog, country, region, city and / or hotel name are queried.
- a full-text search can also be performed.
- the hits are in a hit list output. It can be provided that not only the hits are taken into account, but also all other data sets which have a matching identification code.
- a characterizing overview part of one or more data records is displayed.
- Such an overview part may include the hotel name, the country, the provider and the hotel category.
- a miniaturized image of the hotel can be displayed or made aware of special features.
- a record can be selected. For this record, the complete, saved data will be displayed. The displayed data reflects the information listed in the organizer catalogs, including the pictures. You can almost see the catalog page of the selected hotel.
- the parameter set includes parameters which uniquely identify the displayed data record. These parameters are preferably the booking code of the organizer, the organizer name and the SessionID.
- a session i. a visit to the website, which is browsed in the online catalogs, gets a clear
- This identification feature is the so-called SessionID.
- the sessionID is passed to the booking engine.
- an abbreviation or an encoding can also be used as a parameter.
- the parameter set may also include the identification code.
- a booking engine After creating the parameter set, a booking engine is addressed. Such a booking engine may be physically located in a completely different location and operated by another operator.
- the booking engine essentially comprises one or more databases with entries for bookable trips.
- a bookable travel includes specific dates and dates of travel, departure airport, hotel name, booking code, price, organizer, hotel category and number of persons.
- the booking engine provides a search engine, which outputs based on selection criteria suitable trips in a hit list.
- the database search with a booking engine takes place in the present case, taking into account the parameter set as selection criteria.
- the hit list of bookable trips is therefore not generated in contrast to known booking engines exclusively due to the input by means of an input mask. Rather, the parameters that were generated due to a hotel selection are also taken into account.
- the hit list will then be displayed on the same surface as the full record.
- the hit list can also be displayed in a new window.
- the display is always in connection with the previously based on
- Catalog data selected record with pictures and texts. In this way, the customer will for the first time be able to "leaf through" a catalog and, at the same time, be given a specific price for his journey, and the customer will immediately learn whether the trip is available.
- the procedure of creating a parameter set, which is transferred to a separate booking engine, allows a particularly fast determination and display of the search results.
- the database belonging to the booking engine must be updated at least daily. It contains several million records. The search therefore takes some time. Maintaining and updating the database is time-consuming.
- the booking engine can be designed completely independently in the present invention. The same booking engine can be used by different interfaces and vendors. However, the selection criteria no longer have to be entered manually, but are automatically transferred as a parameter set. It is particularly advantageous that both the detailed information on the hotel and the details of the travel price are displayed simultaneously in a user interface or in a program. So it does not take the catalog to be placed next to a booking engine or a booking engine elsewhere be pressed to be inspired. The otherwise very expensive price calculation is omitted. In the present invention, the travel price data is provided by the booking engine.
- the SessionID gives the booking engine the opportunity to access existing search results and entries even if changes are made.
- the booking engine can query further selection criteria. This is done through an input mask. Selection criteria include, for example, departure and destination airports, start date, duration, number of persons or hotel category. The booking engine can then save these selection criteria. A new database search with a new parameter set and the already stored further selection criteria can be triggered. Then a new hit list is generated when a new record, i. a new hotel is selected.
- the booking engine can remember this data.
- the booking engine receives a new parameter record and determines available trips that correspond to the new parameter set and the old other selection criteria.
- the booking engine expands the hit list to the records of all organizers on request. So not only those trips are displayed, which are offered by the organizer of the record currently displayed, but also comparable trips other operators for the same accommodation. This procedure then allows e.g. a price comparison.
- the hit list is sorted according to selectable sorting criteria.
- One such sorting criterion is the price, for example.
- Embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
- Fig. 1 shows the starting surface of a device for displaying
- FIG. 2 shows a menu for entering selection criteria with which a specific hotel is to be selected.
- FIG. 5 shows the lower part of the surface from FIG. 4 with a hit list with bookable trips which was generated by a booking machine for an organizer.
- FIG. 6 shows a hit list as in FIG. 5, but with matches for any one
- Fig. 7 shows a hit list for the same identification code. Description of the embodiment
- a surface 10 is shown, which is provided on a server.
- the surface 10 is accessible via a browser in the usual way via the Internet.
- a start menu 12 is displayed, which enables the search via various selection criteria.
- An initial search option 14 is the "ExpressSearch.” This option displays a menu shown in Figure 2. This menu provides entry fields 16. Entries may be made for the hotel name, country, destination, city, category, and organizer The entries for country, category and organizer are made via a pull-down menu
- Hotel name, destination and city can be entered via keyboard. Furthermore, an input field for a full-text search is provided. By entering data in these input fields and triggering with the button 18 "Search", the selection criteria are queried and a database search is performed The results are read out and displayed in a list of hits An example of such a list of results is shown in FIG In the present case, the overview part includes the hotel name, the hotel category, the organizer represented by a logo, the name of the organizer catalog, the city, the country and the destination area. Furthermore the page will be indicated in the printed catalog on which the description of the hotel can be found and the page in the price part of the catalog, finally the booking code and an identification code for the hotel found will be given Identification code is an event Independent code assigned to each hotel only once regardless of its name.
- Each of the found records satisfies the selection criteria entered in the input mask of FIG. From the hits shown in the hit list 20, one of the records 22, 24 or 26 can be selected. This is done by mouse click on the hotel name. For the selected data set, all image and text data are read and displayed on the screen. Now the complete data set is displayed. An example of such a data set is shown in FIG. The data set includes in the title the hotel name 28, the destination 30 and the travel destination 32. Furthermore, information can be found in the following categories: hotel category, country category, location, facilities, rooms, meals, sports and entertainment, families and discounts.
- pictures 34 can be found.
- the logo 36 indicates the organizer.
- Via a menu 38 further information about climate and geographical location can be called up.
- the organizer code, the catalog, from which the data are taken, the object code, the catalog page, the price page and the identification code are displayed. These data essentially correspond to the characterizing overview part of the data record.
- an input menu for a booking engine is provided.
- the layout of the input menu is adapted to the layout of the presentation of the digital catalog page.
- a parameter set is created, which is provided at an interface to a booking engine.
- the parameter set essentially contains the data 40. In the present example these are:
- Program code for the booking engine to recognize the program providing the parameter set as start value of the trip
- the parameters of the parameter set can be used by the accounting engine as inputs for initialization. These parameters are then displayed first in the input mask 42.
- the parameter set makes a data record completely identifiable. In addition to the mandatory data for identification, there are still some
- values such as room type, number of adults, departure date, departure airport, etc. can be set.
- the customer can during a
- the design of the booking engine is adapted to the design of the rest of the ad.
- the booking engine Since the booking engine is embedded in the various designs by iframe, the booking engine is visually adapted to the respective design by means of a CSS file.
- the name of the CSS file is passed as a parameter to the booking engine. With the help of this address fragment, the booking engine can compile the complete address and call up the file.
- the booking engine becomes an integral part of the interface in this way.
- the user receives a hit list.
- a hit list is shown in FIG.
- the hit list is displayed immediately below the input mask on the same page as the hotel details and the input mask. In the present example, it is shown separately only for the sake of better illustration.
- the input mask 42 the departure airport and the departure date have been changed.
- a hit list 46 results in a hit list 46 with 7 hits.
- clicking on the button 48 all trips to the same accommodation will then be displayed independently of the organizer and meet the selection criteria to the required extent. This is shown in FIG.
- the trips shown are not data taken from a catalog for which a price was calculated from the price part. Rather, it is the results of a database search, in which the availability is guaranteed.
- the hit list thus does not represent a computer-automated, improved price part of a catalog, but is an essential link to the actual booking.
- the booking can be triggered by clicking on a button 50. Then the usual formalities, such as payments, etc. are regulated in an internet purchase.
- An essential part of the present method is to allow a price comparison for the same hotel and to check the availability in a timely manner.
- the details of Fig. 4 are displayed. A confusion of the booked hotel, e.g. due to similar sounding or foreign name is excluded.
- Hit list is shown in Fig. 7.
- the search defines all records as hits that have the same identification code. In the present case, 7 matches were found for the identification code 669.
- the input mask of the booking engine is already filled with the previously entered entries. Consequently, if the user does not want to change his input, he does not need one make further entries or activate the booking engine.
- the booking engine searches for all offers without further input and displays them in a list of hits analogous to FIGS. 5 and 6.
- a button “next hotel” is displayed together with the complete data. By successively activating this button, the selected catalog can be scrolled page by page. Without further activation, the booking engine displays the travel offers available for the desired travel period and the desired number of persons. Thus, the hotel and organizer-related parameters change and are passed through the interface to the booking engine, but the travel selection criteria remain fixed and are noted by using the SessionID.
- the search for a hotel can also be supported by a full-text search.
- a full-text search For this purpose, an input field is provided in the menu in FIG. 2.
- the full text search searches the entire database.
