Description

The present invention relates to an active silencer for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, in particular in a motor vehicle.

Due to steadily increasing requirements with regard to the sound emissions of exhaust systems, exhaust systems with so-called active noise abatement by anti-noise are increasingly being used in recent years. The mode of operation is based on the triggering of two overlapping sound signals. For this purpose, the noise of the exhaust system, a synthetically generated, usually radiated from speakers, antiphase signal (anti-sound) is superimposed so that as far as possible extinction of the interfering signal takes place. The active silencers are used in addition to exhaust systems of internal combustion engines in ventilation ducts of air conditioning systems. An advantage of the active systems is their size, which require significantly less space compared to passive systems, such as mufflers. This applies in particular to low frequencies, as conventional silencers very quickly take on large proportions. In addition, active systems are much more flexible and can sometimes change automatically Adjust operating conditions, such as different speeds or different engine noise.

The present invention addresses the problem of providing for an active exhaust muffler an improved embodiment, which is characterized in particular by a simple structure.

This problem is solved according to the invention by the subject matter of the independent claim. Advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.

The present invention is based on the general idea, in an active silencer for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, to integrate a chassis of an anti-noise generator in a partition wall between a first space and a second space. In this case, transported in the first space in the exhaust system transported airborne sound, and the anti-sound generator, which is arranged in the second space, can act on the first room through a wall opening in the partition wall with anti-noise. The fact that the chassis of the anti-noise generator and the partition are made of one piece considerably simplifies the installation of the active silencer, thereby helping to reduce assembly costs. At the same time, a one-piece design of the chassis of the partition in the manufacturing process of the partition is easily possible by the chassis or at least parts thereof are formed from the partition by punching and bending. In the thus formed chassis can in one further processing step of the anti-sound generator are used, wherein the membrane is connected on the one hand with a peripheral edge of the wall opening and on the other hand with a sound generator of the anti-sound generator. This so prefabricated partition can now be installed on the muffler without the assembly of the muffler first a complex installation, such as screwing, the chassis of the anti-noise generator must be done with the partition. At the same time can be saved by the inventive solution connecting means, such as screws, as well as, for example, damping elements, which should effect a damped mounting of the chassis to the partition.

In an advantageous embodiment, the dividing wall with the membrane and / or with the chassis separates the first space in a gastight manner from the second space. This ensures that the second space and thus an arranged in this electronics of the anti-noise generator can not come into contact with the chemically aggressive exhaust gases and thereby the longevity of the silencer according to the invention can be increased.

Suitably, the anti-sound generator is a speaker. In this case, commonly used electrodynamic loudspeakers can be used, which on the one hand are inexpensive to produce and on the other hand ensure reliable sound attenuation by emitting signals superimposed on the interference waves. The speakers are preferably often occurring at the respective exhaust system Sound frequencies adapted and designed to cushion this.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the solution according to the invention, the dividing wall and the anti-sound generator are designed as a prefabricated assembly. This allows a separation of the assembly process of the silencer according to the invention in a prefabricate said assembly and a subsequent final assembly of the muffler. The prefabrication of the assembly can be taken over by a supplier, since the manufacturing process of the assembly and the manufacturing process of the muffler can be performed separately.

Other important features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims, from the drawing and from the associated description of the figures with reference to the drawing.

It is understood that the features mentioned above and those yet to be explained below can be used not only in the particular combination given, but also in other combinations or in isolation, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing and will be explained in more detail in the following description.

The sole FIGURE 1 shows a highly simplified, schematic longitudinal section through part of an active silencer according to the invention.

According to FIG. 1, an active silencer 1 for an exhaust system 2 of an internal combustion engine, which is only partially shown, comprises at least a first space 3 and a second space 4 in a housing 11. Airborne sound transported in the exhaust system 2 can enter the first space 3, whichever is the greater Frequency and volume can cause an unpleasant noise. Between the first space 3 and the second space 4, a partition wall 5 is provided, which has a wall opening 6, in the FIG. 1, an anti-sound generator 7 is inserted. The wall opening 6 is completely closed by the anti-sound generator 7.

The arrangement of the first room 3 and the second room 4 according to FIG. 1 is intended to represent only one possible embodiment, with other embodiments, for example, with additional rooms or sound barriers, such as additional partitions, also to be covered by the invention.

The anti-sound generator 7 has, as shown in Fig. 1, a chassis 8 and a diaphragm 9, wherein the chassis 8 is preferably designed to receive electrical or electronic components of the anti-sound generator 7, such as a serving for driving the diaphragm 9 actuator or sounder is. The membrane 9 of the anti-sound generator 7 is preferably formed of a temperature-insensitive material, such as a metal, and therefore particularly suitable for use in exhaust systems 2, due to the high temperatures prevailing there. As shown in Fig. 1, the anti-sound generator 7 is disposed in the second space 4 and inserted into the wall opening 6 of the partition wall 5 so that it can act on the first room 3 with anti-noise in operation. In order to simplify the assembly of the active muffler 1 and thereby realize more cost-effective, the chassis 8 of the anti-noise generator 7 and the partition wall 5 are made of one part. Such a one-piece construction according to the invention of the chassis 8 and the partition wall 5 offers the great advantage that the manufacture of the chassis 8 and the partition 5 can be carried out essentially in one step, thereby avoiding later assembly of the chassis 8 on the partition wall 5.

The membrane 9 is gas-tight and is inserted into the wall opening 6 in such a way that it rests gas-tight against a peripheral edge of the wall opening 6. Also, the chassis 8 itself to the second space 4 can be made largely gas-tight. The component formed from the partition wall 5 and the chassis 8 thus separates the first space 3 from the second space 4 in a gastight manner. Likewise, an inner space 12 is enclosed in a gastight manner by the chassis 8 and the membrane 9. Such a gas-tight separation is required to chemically aggressive exhaust gases, which may be present for example in the first room 3, from a sensitive electronics of the anti-noise generator 7 keep away. The gas-tight separation of the second space 4 from the first space 3 further causes the second space 4 has a closed gas volume and thereby an acoustic separation of the first space 3 from the second space 4 takes place, for the generation of a sound pressure by the vibration of the membrane. 9 is required.

Preferably, the anti-sound generator 7 is designed as a loudspeaker and generates sound vibrations whose oscillation phase is shifted by 180 ° in comparison to the oscillation phase of the original wave generated in the exhaust system 2. If the phase-shifted sound wave now coincides with the original wave, at best both waves cancel out, which is also called destructive interference. By extinguishing the original wave, the acoustic emission of the exhaust system 2 is reduced, which is particularly advantageous due to the ever stricter sound emission requirements for exhaust systems 2 of great advantage. An anti-sound generator 7 designed as a loudspeaker can be manufactured inexpensively and is adapted with respect to its sound emission capability to the sound frequencies and amplitudes occurring in the exhaust system 2, so that the greatest possible destructive interference can be ensured.

Due to the inventive solution, the chassis 8 of the anti-noise generator 7 form as an integral part of the partition 5, it is also possible to form the partition 5 and the anti-noise generator 7 as a prefabricated assembly, which can be manufactured separately from the manufacturing process of the active muffler 1. A final assembly of the active muffler 1 can thus be simpler and faster and thereby realized more cost-effective, since the partition 5 with integrated anti-noise generator 7 as completely prefabricated assembly only needs to be connected to the rest of the active muffler 1 or with other parts of the exhaust system 2 and an otherwise required during the manufacture of the active muffler 1 connecting the chassis 8 with the partition 5, which is complex and therefore expensive, can be omitted. It is conceivable in a shell construction of the housing 11 that the partition wall 5 closes a shell 10 of the active muffler 1 and / or forms a shell part of the muffler 1. A connection of the partition wall 5 with other components of the muffler 1, for example with the housing 1 and with the shell 10, can be done in a conventional manner, for example via a weld or a flanging or a Veralzung.

The solution according to the invention thus makes it possible to produce the chassis 8 and the partition wall 5 preferably in one step, for example by means of a punching tool, so that only the electrics or electronics of the anti-sound generator 7 and the membrane 9 closing the wall opening 6 in the partition wall 5 of the anti-noise generator 7 must be retrofitted. A general assembly of the anti-noise generator 7 and its chassis 8 on the partition wall 5 with the associated assembly costs and the associated assembly materials, such as screws and gaskets, can thus be omitted, making the assembly much simpler and the cycle times can be increased. Of particular advantage is also that the production of the partition 5 together with the integrated chassis 8 or anti-noise generator 7 can be carried out separately from the production of the active muffler 1 and thereby decoupled from the actual manufacturing process of the active muffler 1.
