Document rasterization and document printing are therefore decoupled to ensure the printhead assembly has a constant supply of data. In this arrangement, an image is not printed until it is fully rasterized and, in order to achieve a high constant printing speed, a compressed version of each rasterized page image is stored in memory.

More specifically, the input to the LLF 213 is a set of six 32-bit words and a Data Valid bit, all generated by the HC 211.

  • a single PEC integrated circuit 190 may be employed to generate dots for up to 16 printhead chips 57 and, in such case, a single odd or even buffer line is therefore 16 sets of 640 dots, for a total of 10,240 bits (1280 bytes).
  • the PHI 214 is the means by which the PEC integrated circuit 190 loads the printhead chips 57 with the dots to be printed, and controls the actual dot printing process. It takes input from the LLF 213 and outputs data to the printhead chips 57.

  • a combined characterization vector of each printhead assembly 50 and 51 can be read back via the serial interface 205.
  • the characterization vector may include dead nozzle information as well as relative printhead module alignment data.
  • Each printhead module can be queried via a low-speed serial bus 221 to return a characterization vector of the printhead module.
  • the characterization vectors from multiple printhead modules can be combined to construct a nozzle defect list for the entire printhead assembly and allows the PEC integrated circuit 190 to compensate for defective nozzles during printing. As long as the number of defective nozzles is low, the compensation can produce results indistinguishable from those of a printhead assembly with no defective nozzles.

Claims (11)

  1. Ein Abdeckmechanismus, der mit einer seitenbreiten Druckkopfanordnung (50) verbunden ist, die folgendes aufweist:
    a) zwei seitenbreite Druckköpfe (51), die in einem entgegengesetzten Verhältnis bei einer ersten Druckposition angeordnet sind, und
    b) eine Vielzahl von Düsen, die entlang der Druckköpfe (51) positioniert und beim Gebrauch zur Abgabe von Tinte auf ein Druckmedium angeordnet sind, während es an den Druckköpfen (51) vorbeigeführt wird;
    wobei der Abdeckmechanismus folgendes umfasst:
    i) zwei Abdeckelemente (82, 86), wobei jedes mit einem entsprechenden der Druckköpfe verbunden ist, wobei jedes Abdeckelement eine Länge aufweist, die im Wesentlichen der des entsprechenden Druckkopfes (51) entspricht, und
    ii) Betätigungsmittel (84, 85), die zur Bewegung der Druckköpfe in einer bogenförmigen Richtung weg von der Zuführebene der Druckmedien, von der ersten Druckposition zu einer zweiten Position, bei der die Abdeckelemente in einem Düsen abdeckenden Eingriff in die entsprechenden Druckköpfe (51) eingreifen, angeordnet sind,
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass:
    die Abdeckelemente zu einer Seite der Druckköpfe benachbart positioniert sind, wenn sich die Druckköpfe in der ersten Druckposition befinden, die Druckköpfe (51) in einer bogenförmigen Richtung bewegt werden, wenn sie sich von der ersten Position zu der zweiten Position bewegen, wobei einer der Druckköpfe in einer Richtung im Uhrzeigersinn gedreht wird während der andere der Druckköpfe in einer Richtung gegen den Uhrzeigersinn gedreht wird, wenn sie sich von der ersten Position zu der zweiten Position bewegen.
  2. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei jedes Abdeckelement (82, 86) im Wesentlichen als ein einstückiges Element gebildet ist.
  3. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei jedes Abdeckelement (82, 86) aneinandergrenzende Abdeckelementabschnitte mit einer vereinigten Länge, die im Wesentlichen der des verbundenen Druckkopfes (51) entspricht, umfasst.
  4. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei jedes Abdeckelement (82, 86) einen Körperabschnitt, der aus einem steifen Material gebildet ist, und einen Abdeckabschnitt mit a) einem integral gebildeten Ansatzabschnitt aus einem elastomeren Material und b) einer Aussparung, die von dem Ansatzabschnitt umgeben ist, umfasst und wobei der Ansatzabschnitt peripher konfiguriert ist, um die Düsen des verbundenen Druckkopfes (51) insgesamt zu umgeben.
  5. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei jedes Abdeckelement (82, 86) angeordnet ist, um mit einer Saugvorrichtung verbunden zu sein, wodurch Material aus der Düsenumgebung des verbundenen Druckkopfes (51) abgesogen werden kann.
  6. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei eine Spülkammer (87) in jedem Abdeckelement (82, 86) positioniert und angeordnet ist, um mit einer Saugvorrichtung (89) verbunden zu sein, wodurch Material aus der Düsenumgebung des verbundenen Druckkopfes (51) abgesogen werden kann.
  7. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei ein weiterer Betätigungsmechanismus bereitgestellt ist, um die Bewegung jedes Abdeckelements von einer nicht-abdeckenden Position zu der zweiten Position zu bewirken.
  8. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 7, wobei der weitere Betätigungsmechanismus angeordnet ist, um jedem Abdeckelement eine lineare Bewegung zu verleihen.
  9. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 7, wobei der weitere Betätigungsmechanismus angeordnet ist, um jedem Abdeckelement eine bogenförmige Bewegung zu verleihen.
  10. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 8, wobei jedes Abdeckelement in einem entgegengesetzten Verhältnis mit dem verbundenen Druckkopf positioniert ist, wenn sich der verbundene Druckkopf in der zweiten Position befindet, und wobei der weitere Betätigungsmechanismus angeordnet ist, um jedes Abdeckelement in einer zu der Düsenfläche des verbundenen Druckkopfes senkrechten Richtung zu bewegen, wenn die lineare Bewegung jedes Abdeckelements von der nicht-abdeckenden Position zu der zweiten Position bewirkt wird.
  11. Der Abdeckmechanismus nach Anspruch 1, wobei jedes Abdeckelement bei einem Winkel von etwa 40 Grad relativ zu der Richtung der Druckmedienzuführung geneigt ist.
