Abstract

The method involves providing substances dissolved or emulsified in water as an impregnating agent for influencing the elastic, mechanical, chemical and/or biological characteristics by vacuum impregnation and drying with dry vapors. The impregnating agent is a solution of minerals or salts, where the agent contains borax. The wood chips are mixed with the substances dissolved in the water, where the mixtures evacuate at a predetermined pressure.

Description

The invention relates to a process for the impregnation of wood chips with dissolved and / or emulsified substances in water as impregnating agent for improving the elastic, mechanical, chemical and / or biological properties by vacuum impregnation and drying with dry steam.

As plastic matrix both thermosets and thermoplastics can be used. The wood particles from sawing, planing or so-called cutting chips are brought by regrinding to the desired size and shape. The thickness of the wood particles is usually in the range of 0.2 - 0.5 mm, the ratio of width to length (slenderness) between 1: 3 and 1:10.

After drying and fractionation, the chip material is present in the desired shape and size.

To produce the wood-plastic mixture or mixture, the wood particles in suitable mixers, such as. B. in high-speed rotary mixers, kneading machines, heating-cooling mixers or Mischextrudem, homogeneously mixed with the plastic matrix.

The mixture thus produced can be pressed or injected into molds for the production of the actual composite material. The extrusion to bars, profiles and similar semi-finished products is possible.

By changing the wood or the plastic content of the wood-plastic composite, the performance characteristics, the mechanical or elastic Properties and the surface quality can be selectively changed or influenced. By adding further additives, such as. As color pigments or lubricants, or by the combination of different plastics, an attractive surface, grip friendliness and the like optical and haptic properties can be achieved.

Furthermore, it is possible to achieve an improvement in the quality and the service properties of the composite material by suitable selection of the woods used and the targeted influencing of the wood properties.

From the DE-A-195 21 623 In a process for impregnating wood with sucrose solution, it is known to first treat the wood parts in a container with dry steam and then to impregnate them by an autogenously generated vacuum effect.

At one in the EP-B-1 216 801 The disclosed process for impregnating wood is prepared from an impregnating agent containing impregnating oil and water-soluble polymers as a thickener, a dispersion. The dispersion is heated to a temperature between 100 and 130 ° C and introduced into a impregnation vessel with the wood to be impregnated. The impregnating agent is introduced into the wood by means of one or more pressure cycles.

The EP-A-1 004 413 describes a process for producing impregnated wood chips for use as insulating or insulating material. The chips are dried at a temperature of 150 ° C to the fire limit of the chip material and then sprayed with an impregnating agent. In this case, a pressure of up to 20 bar act on the chips.

The invention has for its object to provide a method of the type mentioned, with which the adverse properties of the filler wood, such as swelling, water absorption, susceptibility to rot by wood-destroying organisms or flammability can be reduced.

To solve this problem according to the invention, the wood chips are mixed with the substances dissolved and / or emulsified in water and the mixture is subsequently evacuated to a pressure <0.1 MPa and after a period of action of at least 20 seconds with dry steam of 1.5 to 6 bar Overpressure is applied.

Preferably, it is evacuated to a pressure of 0.05 to 0.075 MPa.

Die Einwirkungsdauer beträgt bevorzugt 30 bis 300 Sekunden. The exposure time is preferably 30 to 300 seconds.

The dry steam preferably has 2 to 4 bar, in particular about 3 bar overpressure.

B. Borsäure oder Borax (Natriumborat) enthaltende LösungenPreferred impregnating agents are emulsions of natural and / or synthetic waxes or resins or solutions of minerals or salts, such. As boric acid or borax (sodium borate) containing solutions

The impregnating agents may also contain prepolymers which polymerize only in a further processing step.

The inventive method is particularly suitable for impregnating wood chips with a preferred thickness of 0.2 to 0.5 mm and a preferred ratio of width to length of 1: 3 to 1: 10.

A particularly preferred field of application of wood chips impregnated with the method according to the invention is their use as filler for wood-plastic composite materials.

The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to two examples.

Beispiel 1example 1

Wood chips in the form of so-called fine chips having an average length of less than 0.5 mm were introduced into an autoclave together with an aqueous paraffin emulsion. The wood chips and the paraffin emulsion were mixed by intensive stirring. Subsequently, the container was evacuated to a pressure of 0.07 MPa. After an exposure time of 200 seconds, the container was charged with dry steam of 3 bar. The spangle was dried while stirring and the paraffin was fixed on the chips. The water absorption capacity of the wood chips could be reduced by 60%.

Beispiel 2Example 2

Gate sawdust was introduced into the autoclave together with an aqueous boric acid solution and treated in the same manner as in Example 1. The chips thus treated were inoculated on a substrate with spores of wood-destroying fungi and stored in the damp-warm climate. Through this treatment, the wood chips were protected from fungal attack.

The inventive method can be compared to the conventional production of wood chips achieve numerous advantages.

Especially with the use of thermoplastics, any presence of moisture in the wood chips and / or aggregates is troublesome. An addition of aggregates as a solution together with a glue - as is customary in water-soluble thermosetting synthetic resins - is therefore not possible. An admixture as a powder or in other solid form is usually not possible or only to a limited extent because of the different specific weights of the components. In addition, segregation then threatens during further processing. An impregnation of the wood before cutting would be very expensive and the loading of the wood substance not sufficiently uniform with the additive or additives, the impregnation at ambient pressure by means of water-dissolved substances and subsequent drying by contact heat and / or convection conceivable in principle, but technologically and technically complex and expensive.

In an embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the impregnation of the wood chips is carried out with the method according to the invention and, depending on the quality requirement, further substances are added to improve various properties of the wood chips. Furthermore, to improve the properties of the wood chips according to the invention can be provided to mix the wood chips binders and / or emulsions of natural and / or synthetic waxes or resins and / or solutions of minerals or salts and / or prepolymers and / or fungicides.
