  • Electrical cables carrying signals in the form of low current currents are particularly sensitive to electromagnetic interference to which these cables may be subjected. This is particularly the case of cables used in the telecommunications field. These cables carry analog or digital signals. They consist mainly of a central core composed of numerous electrical conductors insulated from each other and a screen formed by a metal envelope surrounding the central core. The protection against interference of the signals transported by the conducting wires with the electromagnetic waves surrounding the cable is provided by the screen. The electromagnetic performance of the cable depends in particular on the efficiency of the screen. The latter must therefore be free from defects and in particular must not be pierced or have electrical discontinuities that would make it sensitive to electromagnetic disturbances.
