Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a hearing device, in particular a hearing aid, with a microphone for receiving ambient sound from the environment of the user. Moreover, the present invention relates to a corresponding method for operating a hearing device.
- a) In automatic gain control (AGC: Automatic Gain Control) the gain is automatically reduced at high sound levels. If the sound level changes sharply several times in succession, the amplification would also be varied accordingly. This means that, for example, environmental or microphone noise is amplified differently depending on the useful sound level, which is perceived by the hearing aid wearer as a pumping effect. To avoid these pumping effects, the AGC settling times, ie the time or time constant for tracking the gain, are typically chosen to be relatively large. However, this leads to the fact that in a conversation with a quieter conversation partner the relatively loud own voice (measured on the hearing aid!) Causes the AGC in transmission phases to low amplification values. If the other person talks immediately after the hearing aid wearer has stopped speaking, the AGC is in the decay phase and the gain is correspondingly low. This means that the gain does not increase fast enough with the mostly quieter speech signals of the interlocutor, so that possible two the first syllables or words are not understood due to lack of reinforcement.
- b) The approach of an "intelligent directional microphone", which only activates when a voice source from the 0 ° -Vornerichtung is detected, fails because the own voice is detected as 0 ° source and the directional microphone unfavorably even with a side partner is activated.
- c) blind source separation algorithms (BSS: Blind Source Separation) try to separate the present in the microphone signals superimpositions of the useful sound and various interference signals with statistical methods. Again, the own voice is identified as a separate source, which interferes with the extraction of the actual useful signal, which is also usually a voice signal.

The object of the present invention is thus to improve the automatic control of hearing devices in the presence of the user's own voice.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a hearing device, in particular a hearing aid, having a first microphone for recording ambient sound from the environment of the user, a second microphone for recording auditory canal sound in the auditory canal or at the auditory canal wall of the user and an eigenvoice detection device for detecting one's own voice User from the two microphone signals and to output a corresponding control signal. In addition to a "normal" sound microphone in the ear canal, a vibration microphone connected to the hearing device housing (eg, glued in from the inside) can also be used, which preferably picks up its own voice via structure-borne sound conduction.
Furthermore, the invention provides a method for operating a hearing device by recording a first sound signal from the surroundings of a user, recording a second sound signal from the user's auditory canal, detecting the user's own voice by analyzing the two sound signals and controlling the hearing device as a function of the presence the user's own voice.
The advantage according to the invention is that the activity of one's own voice is detected permanently and very quickly by the detection approach described above, and this information can then be included directly in the control of algorithms of the hearing device. This avoids the artifacts and spurious controls triggered by your own voice.
Dabei lässt sich in vorteilhafter Weise der Okklusionseffekt des Schalls im Gehörgang ausnutzen, wonach die eigene Stimme im Gehörgang durch die Körperschallübertragung einen deutlich höheren Schallpegel erzeugt als vor dem Ohr.Preferably, the eigenvoice detection device has a level analysis unit, with which the respective level of the two microphone signals is comparable and based on the level comparison, the presence of the user's own voice in the microphone signals can be determined. In this case, the occlusion effect of the sound in the auditory canal can be exploited in an advantageous manner, after which the own voice in the auditory canal by the structure-borne sound transmission generates a significantly higher sound level than in front of the ear.
Conveniently, only frequencies below 1 kHz are taken into account in the level analysis. Namely, at the low frequencies, the occlusion effect is most pronounced.
The hearing device according to the invention may comprise a BSS device with which separate sources can be identified from the microphone signal (s), and a signal processing device which is controllable by the BSS device, wherein the control of the signal processing device by the BSS device intermittently is frozen when the user's own voice is detected. Thus, the extraction of the actual useful signal is not disturbed by your own voice.
In addition, a hearing device according to the invention can have an AGC device for automatic gain adjustment, which can be temporarily deactivated in the detection of the user's own voice or whose decay time can be temporarily shortened when the user's own voice is detected. This can be avoided in particular disturbances in the conversation with a quiet partner.
According to a further embodiment, the hearing device may comprise a directional microphone, which is deactivated upon detection of the user's own voice. In this way, an "intelligent directional microphone" can also operate interference-free, even if the hearing aid wearer speaks himself.
The present invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a schematic diagram of a hearing aid according to the invention.
The embodiment described in more detail below represents a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The problems with the AGC, the BSS and the directional microphone which occur when the hearing aid wearer speaks for himself are solved according to the invention by the detection of his own voice with the aid of a separate ear canal microphone or hearing aid internal microphone MI. This is in accordance with the sketchy figure as well as the listener of the hearing aid selected here in the ear canal GG. In the present example, two external microphones ME1 and ME2 are located outside the ear canal GG for recording the ambient sound from the environment of the user or hearing device wearer.
The detection of one's own voice is based on the permanent comparison of the signals picked up by the external hearing aid microphones ME1 and ME2 and the internal ear canal microphone MI. In the present case, this is done by a level analysis PA of the microphone signals. An eigenvoice detection ED following the level analysis PA supplies a binary signal in the simplest case as to whether the user's own voice has been detected. In response, a signal generator SG generates a control signal to drive a signal processing unit of the hearing aid.
In the present case, the hearing aid has the following signal processing units: A microphone array processing unit MV, z. B. BSS (adaptive directional microphone), for receiving the microphone signals of the external microphones ME1 and ME2, a subsequent feedback suppression device RU, a subsequent noise reduction unit RR and finally a AGC unit for generating an amplified signal for the listener H.
Both the microphone processing device MV including BSS and intelligent directional microphone and the gain unit AGC can be controlled or influenced by the eigenvoice detection PA, ED, SG.
This means that the information about the activity of your own voice is used directly to control the above algorithms. For example, a "freezing" of the BSS adaptation control is possible when one's own voice is detected. Furthermore, a "freezing" of the AGC or a temporary shortening of the decay time is possible if your own voice is active. Furthermore, to realize an "intelligent directional microphone" the directional microphone can be deactivated when detecting one's own voice. This would otherwise be indistinguishable from a 0 ° signal and the directional microphone would be activated.
For the detection of one's own voice, a level analysis is carried out in the present example. If necessary, this can be combined with a runtime analysis or another analysis.
All external signals appear quieter in the ear canal GG than in the external microphone ME1, ME2 due to the damping effect of the earmold or the hearing device in the case of IdO devices. The hearing aid gain known for the respective case must be taken into account in this level comparison. The level of one's own voice is significantly higher at the ear canal microphone due to the direct irradiation by bone conduction into the closed auditory canal volume (occlusion effect) than when measuring with the external hearing aid microphone ME1, ME2. This level analysis should refer to the frequency below 1 kHz, as the occlusion effect is greatest here.
The present invention can also be used for head sets and other mobile hearing devices.
