Definitions

  • the present invention generally relates to communications methods and systems and particularly relates to a method and a system providing communications offers and capabilities in line with predefined communications parameters.
  • buttons included in web pages or e-mails In order to support users in Internet based or Internet related communications, it is known to employ so—called "call me” and "contact” buttons included in web pages or e-mails. A user can activate such a button, for example by clicking the button, to establish a communications link to an owner of a web page or a sender of an e-mail. Upon activation of such a button, the user is required to input some information to actually establish a communications link, for example, his/her telephone number, a telephone number of a party to be called, personal information and the like.
  • a software applet which upon receipt by a computer system is installed on that computer system.
  • the software applet can be activated by a user to establish a telephone communications link between a telephone of the user and a predefined telephone or a telephone selected by the user.
  • the user is required to input some information, to use the telecommunications capabilities of the software applet.
  • a problem generally related to all known approaches is that a user must become active to initialize communications. However, users often forget to do so, for example, miss to call a friend in certain circumstances such as a birthday, ignore a scheduled business related call etc. Further, users are often deterred to use communications possibilities due to related costs and due to missing information to indicate a party with which communications are desired.
  • a further disadvantage of known approaches is that a person, from whom communications shall originate, is generally required to know the party to be called or at least, information associated thereto, such as a telephone number. Further, a party sometimes wants to be contacted by another party without presenting detailed information, such as a telephone number, to the other party.
  • communications means e.g. user hardware, user software, user interfaces
  • communications means e.g. user hardware, user software, user interfaces

  • the method according to the present invention comprises defining communications parameters under control of a communications offering entity, implementing the communications parameters in a communications offering means, assigning the communications offering means to a target entity, providing at least a part of the communications offering means to the target entity, and providing, by the communications offering means, a communications offer to the target entity to communicate according to the communications parameters .
  • the at least partially provided communications offering means are to animate , inspire and/or stimulate the target entity to communicate with the offering entity or with another entity the offering entity wants to be contacted by the target entity.
  • the offering means or at least those parts which are provided to the target entity will also be named communication robots or just "ComBots”.
  • entities are contemplated to include users or owners (e.g. a single person, a company) of communications systems (e. g. computer systems, Internet servers, service providers, e-mail servers, telephone systems, SMS systems), addresses (e.g. IP addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, websites, Internet links, SMS addresses, postal addresses), locations (e. g. building of a company), end user units (e. g. personal computer, telephones, SMS devices) etc.
  • an entity is an individual, a group of individuals or a company, to which at least one end user unit is associated to.
  • the communications offering entity can be, for example, a company or an individual that wants to offer, enable and/or remind an entity, such as a person, to communicate.
  • the target entity can be, e.g., a company or an individual of a group of individuals or companies that is/are, from the communications offering entity's point of view, a "target" or desired party, which should be allowed to communicate but within a framework set up by the communications offering entity, i.e. as defined in the communications parameters.
  • end user units include any device, unit or means, which can be used for communications.
  • Preferred end user units comprise stationary and mobile telephones (e.g. PSTN telephones, 2G and 3G devices, GSM and UMTS telephones), stationary and mobile computer systems, devices and units and the like providing data/information sending and/or receiving capabilities for communications purposes.
  • stationary and mobile telephones e.g. PSTN telephones, 2G and 3G devices, GSM and UMTS telephones

  • the communications offering means remains assigned to the target entity but provides, e.g., the communications offer in line with the modified communications parameters and/or provides a different communications offer.
  • the communications parameters are preferably varied under control of the communications offering entity. From the point of view of the communications offering entity, this embodiment is of particular interest because the communications offering entity as the party being responsible for the communications offer is enabled to modify, e.g. the functions and operation of the communications offering means, the type of offered communications (e.g. telephone call instead of SMS communications, communications with a different company or individual), the number of offered communications (e.g. additional 10 telephone calls or SMSs) etc.
  • modify e.g. the functions and operation of the communications offering means, the type of offered communications (e.g. telephone call instead of SMS communications, communications with a different company or individual), the number of offered communications (e.g. additional 10 telephone calls or SMSs) etc.
  • the communications parameters can also be altered by another entity being different from the communications offering entity.
  • the communications parameters can be modified by a communications provider (e.g. an e-mail provider, a telephone company, etc.), which is intended to be employed for offered communications (e.g. as indicated by the communications parameters).
  • a communications provider e.g. an e-mail provider, a telephone company, etc.
  • such another entity can adapt the communications parameters such that, e.g., new or changed communications fees are considered or that offered communications, which originally are defined to take place via a specific network, will be carried out via a different network.
  • a modification of the communications parameters enhances the individual and personalized communications characteristics of the present invention existing anyhow.

  • the communications parameters can be altered by changing sources (e.g. data, software applications, hardware components), which will be used by the communications offering means for providing the communications offer.
  • the communications offering means is provided in form of a software application, the communications parameters can be varied by changing a so-called ".ini" file or data to be accessed by the communications offering means without any activation of the communications offering means.
  • the communications offering means is embodied as an Internet link, the communications parameter can be varied by modifying the data and the like to which the Internet link points .
  • the communications offering means is preferably controlled when the at least part of communications offering means has been provided so as to control a current condition of the communications offering means.
  • Controlling the communications offering means can effect that the communications offering means provides, to the target entity and/or a user of the target entity, (visual and/or audio) information in order to, for example, indicate a current operational mode of the communications offering means and/or to attract attention (e. g. to display and/or to animate an icon [waving, blinking, jumping, singing etc.]).
  • the communications offering means provides, to the target entity and/or a user of the target entity, (visual and/or audio) information in order to, for example, indicate a current operational mode of the communications offering means and/or to attract attention (e. g. to display and/or to animate an icon [waving, blinking, jumping, singing etc.]).
  • controlling the communications offering means can effect that the communications offering means provides the communications offer in a way and/or manner not being previously defined by the communications parameters.
  • a control of the communications offering means further improves the individual and personalized properties of the present invention.
  • Control of the communications offering means can be accomplished by using a control means associated to the communications offering entity.
  • an individual adaptation can be initiated by the party being responsible for the communications offer, i.e. the communications offering entity in general the party that knows at best which communications (offer) will be optimal.
  • Control of the communications offering means can be carried out in dependence of at least one of an event related to the target entity and an event related to the communications offering entity.

  • the target entity is a condition not suited for communications
  • it can be avoided to provide the communications offer.
  • control of the communications offering means can depend on the operational mode of at least one of the communications offering entity and the target entity. If the communications offering entity or the target entity is already communicating, providing the communications offer could lead to technical conflicts and/or conflicts of interest. Refraining from provision of the communications offer in such a situation can be beneficial.
  • providing of the communications offer can be desired if the target entity is already communicating. For example, the target entity communicates, e.g.
  • a communications offer can be provided to offer the target entity to communicate with the communications offering entity, i.e. the second company, in order to possibly change the target entity's mind which of the companies to consider. Provision of the communications offer can be also desired if the communications offering entity is already communicating. For example, the communications offering entity can be involved in communications with a third party about an issue in which the target entity might be interested or which could have some impact on the target entity. Then, a communications offer can be provided to include the target entity in the communications already prevailing, e.g. in form of a conference communications.
  • the communications offer is provided in dependence of at least one of a condition of the target entity and a condition of the communications offering entity.
  • This embodiment additionally enhances the individualized and personalized communications properties of the present invention.
  • the communications offer can occur, according to the communications parameters or an external control, at any time. Then, situations comparable to those discussed with respect to the preceding embodiment can exist and the provision of the communications offer can be optimized in view of conditions of the communications offering entity and the target entity.
  • the communications offering entity has defined, in the communications parameters, that the target entity should ' be reminded to communicate with the communications offering entity at least once within two weeks.
  • a respective communications offering means is assigned to the target entity, wherein it is ascertained whether the communications offering entity and the target entity had communications within the last two week (e.g. by checking the telephone history of the communications offering entity and/or the target entity). If no communications have occurred in that period, the communications offering means reminds the target entity to communicate with the communications offering entity, i.e. provides a respective communications offer. Synchronization between the communications offering means and trie communications offering entity and/or the target entity can be performed by means of a connection employed at specific times, in predefined intervals, in continuous manner etc.
  • a further example is a person or company being the communications offering entity that intends to offer, as a gift, five free SMSs and ten minutes of toll-free telephone communications to a friend or customer at specific event (e.g. his/her birthday). Then, the communications offering means is provided, in response to the specific event, the communications offer of five free SMSs and ten minutes of toll-free telephone communications.
  • specific event e.g. his/her birthday
  • the communications offering means is synchronized with respect to at least one of a condition of the target entity and/or a condition of the communications offering entity.
  • Synchronization can be carried out so as to obtain an interdependency between the communications offering means and the communications offering entity and/or the target entity. If, e.g., the communications offering means is provided to the target entity such that the communications offering means or at least a portion thereof is located at the target entity, synchronization can effect that the communications offering entity is updated with respect to the operation of the communications offering means and vice versa. The same applies correspondingly, when the at least part of the communications offering means is located at the communications offering entity.
  • the synchronization comprises the exchange of data, especially about information of the target entity to the communications offering identity.
  • a synchronization can be carried out by exchanging data from the communications offering means to the communications offering entity directly or from the communications offering means to a data base, wherein the information is stored.
  • the update of information of such a data base is indicated and made known to the communications offering entity, for example by displaying a respective window showing the updated information.
  • the communications offering entity might preferably be invited to decide on these updated data information to be maintained in the data base or neglect the update.
  • the communications offering entity preferably has the choice to accept such updated data.
  • the communications offering means preferably provides information of a condition of the target entity to the communications offering entity and/or provides information of a condition of the communications offering entity to the target entity.
  • Information concerning the target entity and/or the communications offering entity can be provided at any time when the communications offering means has been at least partially provided to the target entity.
  • this embodiment enables the communications offering entity to more specifically take into consideration the target entity as "individual" communications party and, thus, to adapt, e.g. by a (re-)definition of the communications parameters, control of the communications offering means, synchronization etc. in individual and personalized manner with respect to the target entity. Further, this embodiment allows the communications offering entity to consider properties and/or a current status of the target entity, which are usually not available or which change in time.
  • information concerning the target entity can include:
  • - operational conditions or modes of the target entity e.g. operated vs. not operated, execution of software applications, communications activities etc.
  • a history of the target entity a history of the target entity can indicate when, how and with whom the target entity communicated
  • the communications offering entity can individually adapt the communications parameters and/or the communications offering means and, thus, the communications offer.
  • this embodiment enables the target entity to take into consideration the target entity as "individual" communications party, For example, the target entity or a user thereof can adapt reactions to the communications offer, e.g., by accepting the communications offer only at specific periods of a day, a week etc. and/or in special operational modes of the communications offering entity and/or in view of a certain event/situation. It is further possible for the target entity to consider properties and/or a current status of the communications offering entity, which are usually not available or which change in time.
  • information concerning the communications offering entity can include:
  • Conditions of the communications offering entity and the target entity, respectively, contemplated by the present invention can further comprise conditions such as:
  • the target entity is operated, at least one end user unit associated to the target entity is operated, - a predefined event related to the target entity has occurred (e.g. birthday, scheduled conference call),
  • a communications history of the target entity exhibits a predefined profile (e.g. communications with a specific party, communications with a specific group/type of party [e.g. users belonging to a group, end user units of a particular type], communications of a specific data type [e.g. voice and/or video], communications for a specific period of time, lack of communications for a specific period of time, communications frequency etc . )
  • a predefined profile e.g. communications with a specific party, communications with a specific group/type of party [e.g. users belonging to a group, end user units of a particular type], communications of a specific data type [e.g. voice and/or video], communications for a specific period of time, lack of communications for a specific period of time, communications frequency etc .
