Definitions

  • the present invention relates in general to the area of lighting fixtures and more particularly relates to a recessed lamp, that is to say a lamp suitable for being recessed in a panel forming a false ceiling or a wall.
  • the reflector, housing the light source is connected to a generally tubular support ending with a flange.
  • the panel forming the false ceiling, or the wall, wherein the lamp is to be recessed has a special recessing hole with dimensions compatible with those of the tubular support of the lamp in order to allow insertion of the latter in said hole, making the flange of the support abut externally against the panel.
  • the lamp can be secured to the false ceiling, or to the wall, by screws which connect the flange to the panel, or by elastic means integral with the tubular part of the support and acting on the inner side of the panel to maintain the flange in forced contact against the outer side.
  • the attachment flange is therefore an essential functional element in recessed lamps proposed to date.
  • the presence of the attachment flange often represents an element that negatively affects the appearance of the false ceiling or of the wall wherein the lamp is recessed.
  • the effects of the discontinuity caused by the attachment flange may be limited, if necessary, by colour techniques (for example by making the flange in the same colour as the back panel) yet cannot be completely eliminated.
  • Traditional recessed lamps cannot therefore meet this aesthetic requirement.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a recessed lamp with a structure such as to meet the aesthetic need mentioned above and which, in particular, does not require the presence of an attachment flange that remains visible after fixture installation.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a recessed lamp which achieves the aforesaid object without detriment to its functional needs, in particular as regards the ease of assembly and of maintenance .
  • the recessed lamp according to the present invention wherein the reflector is attached to a tubular support, with dimensions such that it can be engaged within the recessing hole made in the panel forming the false ceiling or the wall and having a pair of diametrically opposite wings extending outwardly from said support and intended to rest on said panel and to be attached thereto when the support is inserted in the recessing hole.
  • the recessed lamp according to the present invention can be used in combination with false ceilings or walls of considerable thickness, as in the case of false ceilings made of plasterboard, wherein the thickness is in the range of about 10-16 mm.
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view from above of a first embodiment of the recessed lamp according to the invention
  • - Figure 2 is a perspective view from below of the recessed lamp of Figure 1
  • Figure 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the lamp taken along line III -III of Figure 1
  • Figure 4 is a perspective view from above of a second embodiment of the recessed lamp according to the invention
  • Figure 5 is a perspective view from below of the recessed lamp of Figure 4
  • Figure 6 is a cross sectional view of the recessed lamp taken along line VI -VI of Figure 4.
  • FIG. 1 denotes a reflector of conventional shape and 2 a bridge bracket externally fixed thereto and holding electrical connectors 3 for connection to the power supply main and a pair of conventional lamp holders 4 for the light source, not shown, facing the reflector 1 internally from two diametrically opposite windows 5 formed therein.
  • a tubular support 6 extends around the opening of the reflector 1.
  • Two radial wings 7 project outwardly from the tubular support 6 at diametrically opposed positions.
  • the tubular support 6 has a circular section with a slightly larger diameter than the maximum diameter of the reflector 1, in such a way that the latter can be housed inside it.
  • the length of wings 7 is not greater than the diameter of the support 6 (in particular, it is equal in the present embodiment) , so as to allow the support to be inserted in the recessing hole (not shown) formed in the panel constituting the false ceiling or the wall where the lamp is to be installed.
  • Two diametrically opposed right-angled plates 8 rise up from the wings 7 and the two ends of the bridge bracket
  • respective longitudinal slots 9 are formed at the ends of the bridge bracket 2 , each one made up of two portions of different width, while the two plates 8 have respective seats 10 for engaging screws 11.
  • the screws 11 engage simultaneously in the respective seats 10 and in the slots 9 aligned therewith to tighten the ends of the bridge bracket 2 against the plates 8, locking the reflector 1 in relation to the tubular support 6.
  • the shape of the slot with double width forms, with the screws 11, a bayonet coupling which facilitates assembly of the reflector 1 on the plates 8 in that it allows hooking of the ends of the bridge bracket 2 to the screws 11 already engaged in the respective seats 10.
  • the tubular support 6 Once the tubular support 6 has been placed in the recessing hole, with the wings 7 resting on the inner side of the panel, it is attached to the panel by self- threading screws (not shown) whose heads are finally concealed by plastering.
  • the free edge of the wings 7 is advantageously bent to increase their rigidity.
  • the height of the tubular support 6, or the distance of the wings from the opposite edge, called external edge, of the support 6, may be different according to the thickness of the panel forming the false ceiling or wall wherein the lamp has to be recessed.
  • the recessed lamp according to the invention has been designed for recessing in false ceilings or walls of considerable thickness, for example those made in plasterboard.
  • the standard thickness in this case is generally 12.5 or 15 mm.
  • the height of the tubular support 6 can be provided as 16 mm and shims 12 can be applied when the lamp is to be installed in false ceilings or walls with thickness of 12.5 mm or, possibly, of a different thickness less than 15 mm.
  • the position of the seat 10 in relation to the wing 7 and that of the highest point of the slot 9 can be adjusted such that, once the free ends of the bridge bracket 2 have been connected to the plates 8, the edge of the reflector 1 is positioned flush with the outer edge of the tubular support 6.
  • a tubular support with quadrilateral cross section is provided and denoted by 16, intended to be housed and attached in a recessing hole of corresponding shape, not shown.
  • Two wings 17 project from two opposite sides of the tubular support 16 and their length is equal to that of these sides.
  • the tubular support 16 has a base wall 18 with a central opening 19, to which a light source 20 is anchored, for example by a bayonet coupling.
  • a light source 20 is anchored, for example by a bayonet coupling.
  • too shims 21 of appropriate thickness can be attached to the wings 17 to adapt the lamp to the various possible thicknesses of the panel forming the false ceiling or the wall wherein it has to be recessed.
  • the edge of the reflector of the light source is positioned at the inner edge of the tubular support 16 instead of at the outer edge.
  • the outer edge of the tubular support 6 will be flush with the false ceiling or wall without creating thereon any discontinuity, apart from the aperture or apertures for the passage of the light.
  • the reflector shown in the drawings is given purely by way of an example. In particular one single window 5 may be provided therein, or a light source with built-in reflector may be used.
  • the shape of the support (quadrilateral and circular as shown in the examples) , is not limited to the application with the specific lamps shown in the drawings, instead its use may also be reversed or adapted to lamps with a different configuration.
