Definitions
- the present invention relates to an internal combustion engine in which exhaust gases are formed, which are partially recycled into the combustion chamber.
- Such an internal combustion engine is known for example from DE 42 40 239 A1.
- the exhaust gases are first used to drive a compressor, a turbocharger, to compress the combustion air. After that, the exhaust gases are passed through a particle filter. The so purified exhaust gases can be re-forwarded to the combustion process after cooling.
- the volume flow of the recirculated exhaust gas is adjusted by a throttle body, after the particulate filter.
- this internal combustion engine is comparatively inefficient and additionally has the disadvantage that sulfur, which is often present in the fuel, accumulates through the exhaust gas recirculation.
- the internal combustion engine to a turbine which is driven by the exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine and which is used for compression of the internal combustion engine supplied air and the recirculated exhaust gases.
- Such turbines / compressors are known as so-called turbochargers according to the prior art.
- the internal combustion engine according to the invention has a particle filter in which soot particles which are formed, for example, during the combustion of diesel fuel, are separated as completely as possible from the exhaust gas. With the particulate filter or with a separate unit and the sulfur is removed from the exhaust gases.
- the internal combustion engine has an exhaust gas recirculation, which is arranged between the outlet of the particulate filter and the suction side of the turbine. The exhaust gases to be supplied are therefore sucked out of the main exhaust gas line after the particle filter and fed to the fresh air, which also rests on the suction side of the compressor.
- a cooler is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation, so that the recirculated exhaust gas is already pre-cooled, mixed with the air and thus compressed in the compressor.
- This embodiment of the present invention has the advantage that the air / exhaust gas mixture can be fed to the combustion process at a higher pressure.
- a control element is arranged after the particulate filter that regulates the recirculated exhaust gas volume flow, for example, depending on the engine power.
- the air / exhaust gas mixture after it has been compressed by the turbocharger and before it flows into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine cooled by a charge air cooler.
- This embodiment of the present invention has the advantage that the mass of the mixture to be introduced into the combustion chamber can be increased.
- FIG. 1 shows the internal combustion engine according to the invention, which in the present case has six combustion chambers 11, cylinders, in which a fuel-air mixture, preferably a diesel-air mixture, is burnt.
- the burned gases are collected in the manifolds 17 and, as indicated by arrow 12, supplied to a turbine 2 which propels and relaxes them.
- the so-relaxed exhaust gases are, as symbolized by arrow 21, a particle filter 3, which also has a sulfur trap supplied.
- the particle filter 3 has an inlet 5 and an outlet 6, from which the exhaust gases after their purification flow out as far as possible free of particles and sulfur.
- a closable by a flap 9 branch is arranged, can be recycled by the exhaust gases in the combustion chamber.
- the exhaust gas After the exhaust gas has passed through the flap 9, it flows out of the exhaust, as shown by arrow 20. Through the pipe 4, the so-called exhaust gas recirculation is realized.
- part of the exhaust gas first flows once through a low-pressure cooler 8, for example a heat exchanger, in which the recirculated exhaust gases are cooled by the cooling medium 14.
- the thus cooled exhaust gas is passed to the suction side 7 of the compressor of the turbocharger and mixed there with fresh air 13 and compressed in the turbocharger 2.
- the thus compressed gas is cooled once again in a charge air cooler 10, by means of the heat exchange medium 15, before it via a flap 16, with the air / exhaust gas mixture stream, which is provided via the manifold 19 to the combustion chambers 11 each available can.
- the internal combustion engine according to the invention has the advantage that the exhaust gas can flow to the particle filter without a further pressure loss in the environment.
- the recirculated gas is particle-free and in particular free of sulfur.

Abstract
