Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to a starter profile for the placement of insulation plates against a wall surface to be insulated, which starter profile is built up of one or more section elements, each section element being configured as an elongated angle section comprising a first section flange to be fixed to the wall surface to be insulated and a second section flange for supporting and orienting the insulation plates.
- The invention furthermore relates to an auxiliary section element for use with a starter profile according to the invention.
- Starter profiles as referred to in the introduction are generally known, they are used for installing insulation plates on a wall surface, usually an external wall surface. To obtain a correct placement and orientation of the insulation plates with respect to the wall surface, a starter profile composed of several section elements arranged in abutting relationship is fixed to the wall surface. The assembly of section elements ("the starter profile") thus forms a base or supporting surface that functions as the starting orientation for the insulation plates to be placed.
- A drawback of the currently used starter profiles is that the successive abutting section elements are not correctly aligned, which can only be prevented by carrying out the installation with due precision. Since the successive section elements are not sufficiently correctly aligned, an insufficiently straight supporting surface for the insulation plates to be installed is thus obtained.
- Consequently it is an object of the invention to provide an improved starter profile which can be mounted in a quick and simple manner whilst obtaining a substantially straight supporting surface for the insulation plates. According to the invention, the starter profile is characterized in that at least one auxiliary section element is provided, which is arranged for interconnecting section elements that are mounted adjacently to each other. Thus it is possible to ensure a correct connection between adjacent section elements mounted on the wall surface, wherein any offsets or differences in height between adjacent section elements are corrected.
- In this way a substantially straight and flat supporting edge for the insulation plates to be installed is obtained.
- In a specific embodiment, in which an improved connection between the section elements mounted adjacently to each other is realised, the auxiliary section element comprises a U-shaped section flange to be placed over the second section flange of one or more section elements.
- The connection between the auxiliary section and the section elements can be further strengthened in that according to the invention the second section flange of the section element and the U-shaped section flange of the auxiliary section element are provided with friction-increasing means. The second section flange of the section element and the U-shaped section flange of the auxiliary section element have an at least partially roughened surface in that case.
- In a specific embodiment, the auxiliary section element is according to the invention provided with an upright edge extending parallel to the wall surface so as to obtain a correct placement and retainment of the insulation plates on the auxiliary section element.
- In another embodiment, the auxiliary section element has a second edge which is in line with the second section flange and which extends in a direction away from the wall surface. Said second edge functions as an orientation point for the plasterer when applying a layer of mortar or stucco to the installed insulation plates.
- The basic embodiment of the existing starter profiles is not provided with a stop surface for the stuccowork that is to be provided. Said profiles do not have any adjusting possibilities, either.
- The aforesaid second edge also functions as a stop surface for stuccowork on the insulation plate. As a result, a neat, smooth surface is obtained. The auxiliary section can be adjusted in forward direction over a distance of up to 15 mm, thus providing dimensional flexibility geared to the degree of levelness of the supporting surface of the base angle section.
- In a special embodiment, the auxiliary section element may furthermore be provided with an upright edge that extends downward, parallel to the wall surface. Said edge functions as a stop edge for stopping water that flows back in the direction of the wall surface along the flange of the auxiliary section element under the influence of the force of gravity (or whether influences). The edge furthermore functions as a breaker edge in that the water (moisture) that accumulates against the edge breaks off the edge in the form of drops.
- The section element and an the auxiliary section element are in particular made of plastic material. Said material has more or less the same coefficient of thermal expansion as the insulation plates that are generally used, so that a proper interconnection between the various parts will remain ensured also after installation and finishing and will not be adversely affected by, for example, the varying weather conditions.
- The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to a drawing, in which:
- Figures 1a-1e show successive mounting operations of one embodiment of a starter profile according to the invention;
- Figures 2a-2c are partial views of embodiments of a starter profile according to the invention.
-
- For a clearer understanding of the invention, like parts will be indicated by the same numerals in the description of the figures below.
- In figures 1(a)-1(e), the successive operations for mounting the starter profile according to the invention are shown.
- The starter profile according to the invention is built up of one or more section elements 20'-20" , etc, each section element 20'-20" being configured as an elongated angle section comprising a
first section flange 23 and asecond section flange 24. In principle thefirst section flange 23 and thesecond section flange 24 extend at right angles with respect to each other, and thefirst section flange 23 is to be mounted against awall surface 10, whichwall surface 10 is to be insulated by means of insulation plates (not shown). - For a correct placement of said insulation plates (not shown), the various section elements 20' -20' ' etc must be fixed to the
wall surface 10 to be insulated in side-by-side, abutting relationship. To that end, thefirst section flange 23 is provided withseveral fixing holes 22. After holes have been drilled in the wall surface (figure 1(a)), the section element 20'-20'' must be fixed to thewall surface 10 by means of screws or hammer-drive plugs 22a inserted through theopenings 22. - Although the adjacent, abutting section elements 20'-20" can be fixed to the
wall surface 10 in precisely aligned relationship, as is shown in figure 1, it cannot be excluded with the currently used starter profiles according to the prior art that thebutt joint 21 between the successive large section elements 20'-20" exhibits an offset, as a result of which the successive section elements 20'-20" are not correctly aligned. - As a result of said insufficiently correct alignment, an insufficiently straight or flat supporting edge for the insulation plates to be placed is obtained. As a result, said insulation plates, which will be supported on the projecting
second section flange 24, are incorrectly oriented, which has a negative effect both on the finish and on the insulating value of the insulated wall surface thus obtained. - According to the invention, use is to that end made of an
auxiliary section element 25, which is arranged for interconnecting the section elements 20'-20 " etc that are fixed to thewall surface 10 in side-by-side relationship. Preferably, eachauxiliary section element 25 is offset with respect to the section elements 20'-20" etc, so that thebutt joint 21 is surrounded by theauxiliary section element 25, thus correcting any offsets between the successive section elements. - A perfectly straight or flat supporting edge, on which the insulation plates can be easily oriented, is thus created by means of the
auxiliary section elements 25. - The starter profile according to the invention is shown in more detail in the views (a)-(c) of figure 2.
- The starter profile is built up of several section elements, indicated at 20 in figure 2(a). The
section element 20 is configured as an angle section comprising afirst section flange 23 and asecond section flange 24 extending at right angles to said first section flange. - In one embodiment, the
section element 20 may be in the form of a plate section, but an additional strengthening or support of the insulation plates to be installed (not shown) can be obtained by building up thesection element 20 as a sandwich construction comprisingseveral air chambers 41 that are separated from each other by means ofpartitions 40. - According to the invention, use is made of an auxiliary section element as indicated by
numerals 25 and 25' in figure 2(b) and figure 2(c), respectively. The auxiliary section element 25 (25') functions to interconnect thesection elements 20 that are fixed adjacently to each other to thewall surface 10, more in particular, the auxiliary section element 25 (25') is provided with aU-shaped section flange 26, which makes it possible to place theauxiliary section element 25 over the second section flanges ofadjacent section elements 20. - To ensure a proper fixation of the U-shaped section flange 26 (26') to the
second section flange 24, both thesecond section flange 24 and the U-shaped section flange 26 (26') are provided with friction-increasing means 42-30. In this embodiment the friction-increasing means may consist of a roughening of the surface of thesecond section flange 24 and of the interior surface of the U-shaped section flange 26 (26'). More in particular, said roughening may consist of upright teeth orribs 42 and 30 (30') respectively, which latter friction-increasing means engage the friction-increasingmeans 42 on thesecond section flange 24 upon placement of the U-shaped section flange 26 (26'). - According to the invention, the auxiliary section element 25 (25') is provided with an upright edge 27 (27') extending parallel to the
wall surface 10, which edge is provided on the end of the U-shaped section flange remote from thesection element 20. The upright edge 27 (27') functions as a retaining edge for the insulation plates to be placed on thesecond section flange 24 and the U-shaped section flange 25 (25'). Said upright edge 27 (27') prevents undesirable deflection of the insulation plates supported on thesecond section flange 24 and the U-shaped section flange 26 (26'), respectively. - Since the assembly of the
section elements 20 and the auxiliary section elements 25 (25') form a starter profile for the placement of insulation plates, a simple installation and insulation of a wall surface 10 (see figure 1(a)-1(e)) can thus be realised. Since the insulation plates are generally finished with a layer of mortar or stucco by a plasterer after placement, each auxiliary section flange 25 (25') is provided with an upright edge 28 (28') facing away from the wall surface, which the plasterer can use as a boundary edge for the layer or mortar or stucco when finishing the insulation plates that have been installed on thewall surface 10. - To obtain an improved adhesion of the layer of stucco, the
edge 28 is provided with anupright projection 29, or, as shown in view 2c, the edge 28' is provided with several upright projections 29'. Likewise, to obtain an improved adhesion of the (stucco) layer to be provided, the upright edge 27 (27') is provided with a roughened surface 31 (31'), which provides an improved adhesion of the stucco layer. - The auxiliary section flange 25 (25') may furthermore be provided with an upright edge 50 (50') that extends downward, parallel to the wall surface. Said edge 50 (50') functions as a stop edge for stopping water that flows back in the direction of the
wall surface 10 along the flange of the auxiliary section element 25 (25') under the influence of the force of gravity (or whether influences). The edge 50 (50') furthermore functions as a breaking edge in that the water (moisture) that accumulates against the edge breaks off the edge in the form of drops. - This prevents moisture affecting the wall surface construction (fungus, rot, etc).
- It will be apparent that the starter profile according to the invention provides an improved method for the placement and orientation of insulation plates against a wall surface to be insulated, as a result of which the individual section elements 20'-20" no longer need to be fixed in precisely aligned relationship to the
wall surface 10. Using the auxiliary section elements 25 (25'), a perfectly straight and flat setting strip can be realised, by means of which any unevennesses or offsets at the butt joints of adjacent section elements 20 (20') can be corrected.
