Abstract

A process for producing 1,5-diaminonaphthalene which comprises dehydrogenating a 5-substituted 1-tetralone to produce a naphthol compound and then aminating the hydroxy group of the naphthol compound. Thus, the target compound can be produced without yielding the 1,8-diamino isomer as a by-product and without via a nitroimine or nitroenamine, which is unstable, as an intermediate.
