- the degree of roughness of the surface of the cylindrical drum should be reduced to values in the range 0,2 to 0,4 microns, e.g. by polishing, to prevent the yam from cracking while running through the braking device.
- a main object of the present invention is to provide an improved braking device which allows the braking action upon the yarn to be considerably strengthened and, at the same time, does not adversely affect the accuracy of the unwinding run of the yarn.
- a modulated braking device characterized in that it has a stationary drum with a cylindrical skirt having an outer surface which has different degrees of roughness, with an annular braking band having a lower degree of roughness and extending along the rounded annular surface, on the area that is to be engaged by the frustoconical braking member; and with the residual surface portion of the skirt, outside the braking band, having a higher degree of roughness.
