Abstract
Description
- The invention refers to a fire-extinguishing equipment with a feeder pipe for quenching water, from which emerge at least one low pressure quenching water pipe and one high pressure quenching water pipe, with a low pressure pump in this low pressure quenching water pipe and a high pressure pump in this high pressure quenching water pipe, and with a mixing device for the introduction of foaming agent into both the extinguishing agent pipes.
- Depending on the factors existing at the scene of a fire, modem extinguishing equipment enables the use of different extinguishing agents including low pressure quenching water and high pressure quenching water (approx. 40 bar). Foaming agent can be added to the quenching water in both the low pressure as well as in the high pressure sectors. This foaming agent is fed into the low pressure quenching water and high pressure quenching water pipes with the aid of mixing units.
- Such mixing units are comparatively large-scale and correspondingly expensive. On the one hand, they have to enable a relatively accurate dosage of the added foaming agent and, on the other hand, work against the pressure existing in the quenching water pipes.
- The deriving problem of the present invention is to achieve a fire-extinguishing equipment of the above-mentioned type which allows the possibility, in a fire-extinguishing equipment with low pressure and high pressure sectors, of supplying foaming agent to both sectors in an economically and simple way.
- In order to solve this problem, an equipment of the above-mentioned type according to the invention is characterised in that a mixing unit for the controlled introduction of foaming agent is provided in the low pressure quenching water pipe and that a connecting pipe branches off from the low pressure quenching water pipe downstream of the mixing unit, which enters the high pressure pipe upstream of the high pressure pump.
- This solution merely requires a mixing unit for the low pressure quenching water pipe. For the high pressure sector, the water-foaming agent mixture, pre-mixed in the low pressure sector, is fed to the high pressure pump where it is brought up to the desired high pressure. A separate mixing unit is thus not necessary for the high pressure sector.
- The mixing unit preferably enters the low pressure quenching water pipe downstream of the low pressure pump. The quenching water-foaming agent mixture is thus already under low pressure here. The portion of the mixture branched-off to the high pressure sector is brought to high pressure by a high pressure pump.
- With the aid of a three-way valve, the quenching water-foaming agent mixture downstream of the mixing unit can be controlled so that it either remains in the low pressure sector or is fed to the high pressure sector, or so that both systems can be operated simultaneously with pre-determined portions.
- The following explains in more detail, with the aid of the attached drawing and preferred embodiments of the invention.
- The only diagram is a schematic block diagram to illustrate the fire-extinguishing equipment according to the invention.
- A feeder pipe for quenching water, labelled 10, can be supplied by various sources. In the drawing are shown a
quenching water tank 12, situated inside the fire-fighting vehicle, a quenchingwater reservoir 14, situated external to the vehicle, from which water can be taken via asuction pipe 16, and variety of water sources, summarised by the termexternal supply 18, for example a hydrant. - In the
feeder pipe 10 there is alow pressure pump 20 which is driven by amotor 22. Starting from thelow pressure pump 20, the downstream pipe labelled 24 should be designated as LP- quenchingwater pipe 24. This LP-quenching water pipe can branch out into various outlets, as indicated in the drawing. - Further along the LP-quenching water pipe there is an
injection point 26, at which a foaming agent can be injected into the LP-quenching water if required. The foaming agent is supplied from afoaming agent container 28 via afoaming agent pipe 30. The foaming agent container is, as a rule, situated inside the fire-fighting vehicle. The supply of foaming agent from thefoaming agent container 28 can be released by opening astop valve 32, situated in thefoaming agent pipe 30. A water-engine is situated in the low pressurequenching water pipe 24 which drives afoaming agent pump 38 via either an infinitely variable change-speed gear or a shaft 36. This enables an exact and controlled addition of the foaming agent which arrives at theinjection point 26 via aninjection pipe 40. - Downstream of the
injection point 26, a three-way valve is situated in the LP-quenchingwater pipe 24 which can be adjusted so that the LP-quenching water either remains in the LP-quenching water pipe or is conveyed to a branching connectingpipe 44 which establishes a connection to ahigh pressure pump 46, situated in a HP-quenchingwater pipe 48. The HP- quenchingwater pipe 48 branches off from the LP-quenchingwater pipe 24 downstream of the LP-pump 20. In a three-way valve 50, it joins the connectingpipe 44 which comes from the LP-quenching water pipe behind theinjection point 26 and which permits the supply of a water-extinguishing agent mix. The three-way valve 50 can be adjusted so that either pure water from LP-quenchingwater pipe 24 or a quenching water-foaming agent mixture from the connectingpipe 44 reaches thehigh pressure pump 46. - The high pressure pump is likewise driven by the
motor 22 via anadditional shaft 52. In this respect, the figure is to be seen as purely schematic. - 54 denotes a flushing pipe in which is situated a stop valve. The flushing pipe 54 runs between the LP-quenching
water pipe 24 downstream oflow pressure pump 20 and thefoaming agent pipe 30. Flushing of thefoaming agent pipe 30 can be initiated by opening thestop valve 56.
