Definitions
- the invention relates to polyurethanes, in particular polyurethane foams with improved long-term stability, and to a process for their production.
- the invention further relates to the use of inhibitors, which are encapsulated in wax, to improve the long-term stability of polyurethanes, in particular flexible polyurethane foams.
- inhibitors are understood to mean compounds which are intended to counteract cleavage of the polyurethanes formed and which are intended to prevent aromatic amines which can form during such cleavage from migrating out of the foam.
- Polyurethane foams have been known for a long time and have been described many times in the literature. They are usually prepared by reacting isocyanates with compounds having at least two hydrogen atoms reactive with isocyanate groups.
- polyurethanes As well as other plastics are subjected polyurethanes aging processes "lead in general with increasing time to deterioration of performance characteristics. Significant aging effects, for example, hydrolysis, photo-oxidation and thermal oxidation, resulting in bond breaking in the polymer chains. In the case of polyurethanes, especially has the action of
- amines especially aromatic amines, such as toluenediamine (TDA) and diphenylmethane diamine (MDA), and aliphatic amines, such as hexamethylenediamine (HDA) and isophorone diamine (IPDI):
- TDA toluenediamine
- MDA diphenylmethane diamine
- HDA hexamethylenediamine
- IPDI isophorone diamine
- the compounds mentioned cause both a blocking of the amine urethanization catalysts and a complexation of amines formed in the hydrolytic cleavage of the urethane bonds in the polyurethanes.
- the inhibitors are mostly added to the polyol component or the isocyanate component in pure form before the reaction.
- the disadvantage here is that they react with the amine catalysts or the amines used as chain extenders before or during the preparation of the polyurethanes. This can lead to disturbances in the network structure of the polyurethanes and / or to a slowing down of the reaction. This leads to longer demoulding times of the products and thus to a loss of efficiency.
- the invention was based on the object of providing polyurethanes with high hydrolysis resistance, in which the inhibitors only develop their effectiveness after the preparation of the polyurethanes.
- the task was surprisingly achieved by incorporating the inhibitors into inert compounds.
- the present invention therefore relates to a process for the production of polyurethane foams with improved long-term stability by reacting
- inhibitors are embedded in a substance which is inert under the conditions of polyurethane production, in particular wax.
- the invention also relates to the polyurethanes produced by this process 15, in particular flexible polyurethane foams.
- the invention furthermore relates to inhibitors for polyurethanes, characterized in that they are incorporated in a substance, in particular wax, which is inert under the conditions of polyurethane production.
- wax is understood to mean compounds whose melting point is generally between 20 and
- the waxes of the present invention are generally kneadable or solid to brittle hard in the solid state, but not glassy. In general, the waxes of the present invention are slightly above
- the melting point of the waxes should preferably be chosen so that they melt during the polyurethane reaction. 35 In particular, the melting point should be such that the waxes only melt towards the end of the reaction, since otherwise a reaction of the inhibitors with the other reaction components cannot be completely ruled out.

- the inhibitors are generally dissolved or suspended in heated liquid wax. If necessary, a solubilizer can be added which gives a better solution of the inhibitors in the wax.
- the mixture of liquid wax and inhibitors is now preferably cooled and dispersed in a polar liquid. If necessary, a dispersant can be added to the melt before this step, which leads to an advantageous dispersion.
- the dispersion is carried out in such a way that the encapsulated used according to the invention Inhibitors are present in particulate form, comprising particles with an average particle diameter of 10 to 800 ⁇ m, preferably more than 100 ⁇ m to less than 600 ⁇ m, more preferably 110 to 500 ⁇ m, particularly preferably 120 to 300 ⁇ m.
- the average particle diameter which is also referred to as the dso value of the integral mass distribution, is defined in the context of this invention as the particle diameter at which 50% by weight of the particles have a smaller diameter than the diameter which corresponds to the dso value. Likewise, 50% by weight of the particles then have a larger diameter than the dsoter.
- the particle diameter was determined by light microscopic measurement, with spherical particles being estimated for the equivalent sphere diameter.
- Any liquid in which the wax is insoluble is generally suitable as the polar liquid.
- Water or a compound having at least two hydrogen atoms reactive toward isocyanate groups is preferably used.
- a polyol, in particular a polyetherol, is preferably used as the component, particularly preferably the polyol used in the production of polyurethanes. - the inhibitors used according to the invention can advantageously be used in polyurethanes, in particular flexible polyurethane foams.
- the inhibitors embedded in the wax do not influence the start times and the reaction behavior of the polyurethane system. However, heat is released in the course of the reaction, the wax melts above a defined temperature and releases the inhibitor. Depending on the melting point of the wax used, the inhibitor can be released at a different time on the reaction coordinate. The inhibitors are preferably only released towards the end of the reaction, so that a negative influence on the catalysis of the polyurethane formation can be excluded. After the wax has melted, the inhibitors develop their full effectiveness immediately.
- a particular advantage of the process according to the invention is that also inhibitors, which react with the constituents of the polyol component and thus can interfere with the network structure of the polyurethanes particularly strong, can be added to the polyol component ⁇ .
- the inhibitors are embedded in substances which are inert under the conditions of polyurethane production and which release the inhibitors only under hydrolysis conditions. This embodiment has the advantage that the inhibitors are only released when they are to develop their effectiveness in the polyurethane. This prevents a part of the inhibitors used from migrating out of the polyurethane before the onset of hydrolysis and thus being lost as inhibitors.

Description
5 a) Polyisocyanaten mit

-Teile Maleinsäure- anhydrid in Wachs eingesetzt.
