Abstract

The applicator has a twisted core (20) having a portion (21) that has bristles (41) radially arranged with respect to the core. Another portion (22) is fixed in a shaft (30). The latter portion has two zones (22a,22b) twisted in different directions and/or pace, where the pace of the twisting is progressively increased between an end close to the former portion and another end. An independent claim is also included for an assembly for packaging and applying of a product on a keratin fiber e.g. eyelash and eyebrow.

Description

The present invention relates to a cosmetic product applicator, in particular mascara, as used in particular for eyelashes and eyebrows.

Le second type de torsadage, le plus répandu jusqu'à présent, permet d'obtenir une brosse qualifiée de "brosse droite".In the field of mascara, the most commonly used applicators are formed of so-called "twisted" brushes. Such twisted brushes are obtained by arranging a sheet of bristles between the two branches of a wire configured hairpin, and then twisting the two branches of the wire about its axis. The wire thus twisted forms a helix (in fact, one for each strand of wire) whose turns, depending on the direction of twisting of the wire, rise from left to right (when the brush is seen from the front in a vertical position) or from right to left. The first type of twisting provides a brush sometimes qualified "left brush". Such a brush is described in particular in patent EP 0 611 170 in the name of the applicant. The second type of twisting, the most widespread so far, provides a brush called "brush right".

Such twisted brushes generally comprise a portion "empoilée" defining an application portion, extending by a "nonempoilée" portion of the wire, sometimes called "tail" of the brush, and serving in particular for fixing the device on a rod connected in particular to a member for gripping the device also serving as a closure cap of the bottle that contains the mascara.

Fixing the brush in the stem requires a minimum of axial holding so that the brush does not fall off the rod and is definitely not usable. The attachment of the brush also requires a sufficiently large rotational hold so that the brush rotates with the rod when the rod is rotated by the user to unscrew the cap of the bottle. Fixation must be even stronger when the mascaras used are mascaras that dry very quickly, namely mascaras that have a relatively pasty formulation and therefore that adhere significantly to the brush and the bottle.

To attach the brush to the rod, the tail of the brush is generally inserted into a hole in the rod, the diameters of this hole and the tail of the brush being substantially equal. The hold is ensured by heating the tail of the wire brush and forcing it into the hole of the rod so that the plastic of the rod melts locally in contact with the tail of the brush and matches the shape of the twist of the tail of the brush.

The holding of the brush in traction is high because the rod taking the shape of the twist becomes a kind of female thread around the tail of the brush which is a male thread. Thus, any axial displacement becomes impossible without deformation of the material of the rod or the brush. On the other hand, the rotation in the direction of the unscrewing of the tail of the brush remains easy since there is no chemical adhesion between the plastic and the metal, and that this movement does not imply any mechanical deformation. Thus, the rotational behavior remains low. The unscrewing movement of the brush relative to the stem may occur in the direction of the opening or closing of the mascara.

To overcome this problem, it is conventional to locally crush the tail of the brush to make it locally flat and thus prevent the tail of the brush to unscrew during rotational movements. However, this dish is effective only for relatively low torque values, and is not sufficiently effective for mascaras of relatively pasty formulation.

Also, is it an object of the invention to provide a cosmetic product applicator that does not have the disadvantages of the prior art.

It is particularly an object of the invention to provide such an applicator in which the brush is not likely to separate from the rod on which it is attached, and this, even for relatively sticky product formulations.

It is also another object of the invention to provide such an applicator simply and at a lower cost.

According to the invention, these objects can be achieved wholly or partly by producing a cosmetic product applicator, in particular mascara, comprising a twisted core having:
  • a first portion which traps bristles arranged radially relative to the core, and
  • a second portion fixed in a rod, the second portion of the core being formed of at least two twisted zones having a different direction and / or pitch.

The twisted zone of the second portion of the web contiguous to the empoiled portion may be twisted in the same direction as the empoiled portion.

The twisted zone of the second portion of the web contiguous to the emptied portion may be twisted with the same pitch as the empoiled portion.

The second portion of the core may be formed by a twisted zone of a first step and a twisted zone of a second step different from the first.

Alternatively, the second portion of the core may be formed by a twisted zone whose pitch increases, or decreases, progressively between a first end contiguous to the empoiled portion of the core and a second end opposite to the first.

The entire soul can be formed from two branches of a wire.

Dans ce cas, la brosse est qualifiée de "gauche".The empoilated portion of the core may have a plurality of turns rising from left to right when the applicator is viewed from the front in a vertical position. In this case, the brush is called "left".

Dans ce cas, la brosse est qualifiée de "droite".Alternatively, the empoiled portion of the core may have a plurality of turns rising from the right to the left when the applicator is seen from the front in a vertical position. In this case, the brush is called "right".

The empoilated portion of the soul may be rectilinear, or alternatively be curved.

The rod may be secured to a gripping member.

The bristles may form a brush of circular cross section, or polygonal, in particular triangular, square, or pentagonal.

The objects of the invention can also be achieved by providing an assembly for the packaging and application of a product on keratinous fibers, in particular eyelashes or eyebrows, comprising a container containing the product, said container defining an opening at the vicinity of which is a wiper member, said assembly being equipped with an applicator as just described.

  • la figure 1 illustre une vue en coupe partielle d'un premier mode de réalisation d'un applicateur selon l'invention ;

The invention consists, apart from the arrangements set out above, in a certain number of other arrangements which will be explained below, with reference to nonlimiting exemplary embodiments, described with reference to the appended figures, among which:
  • Figure 1 illustrates a partial sectional view of a first embodiment of an applicator according to the invention;
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a partial sectional view of a second embodiment of an applicator according to the invention;
  • Figure 3 illustrates a partial sectional view of a third embodiment of an applicator according to the invention;
  • Figures 4 and 5 show variants of the applicator illustrated in Figure 1; and
  • FIG. 6 represents a packaging and applicator assembly using an applicator according to the invention.

The application device 10 shown in Figure 1 is intended to apply a mascara. The device 10 comprises a rod 30 carrying a brush 40, the rod extending along an axis X. The brush comprises for example a cross section to the axis X of circular shape.

The brush 40 comprises a twisted core 20 substantially straight. The twisted core is obtained from a U-folded wire and between the branches of which, prior to the twisting movement, a ply of bristles 41 is introduced. In response to the twisting movement, the bristles 41 are driven into a helical configuration formed of a succession of turns more or less spaced apart. The bristles 41 extend radially to the support and are substantially rectilinear.

The layer of bristles 41 forming the brush is trapped in a first portion 21 of the core 20 while a second portion of the core 22 not empoilée, hereinafter called the tail of the brush, is fixed in the rod 30 The end of the rod 20 opposite the brush 40 is generally connected to an element (shown only in FIG. 6) forming both a gripping member for the brush 40, and a closure element for the container to which is associated the brush.

According to this embodiment, the brush 40 is of the "straight brush" type, the turns of the empoilated portion 21 of the twisted core 20 rising from the right to the left when the brush 40 is seen from the front in vertical position.

The tail of the brush 22, which is fixed in the rod 30, has two twisted zones 22a and 22b in two different directions. A first twisted zone 22a, formed in the extension of the empoilated portion 21 of the core 20, has the same direction and the same pitch as the empoiled portion 21 of the soul. A second twisted zone 22b, formed in the extension of the first twisted zone 22a, is this time twisted in the opposite direction to the first twisted zone 22a of the tail of the brush.

According to an exemplary embodiment, the tail of the brush has a length of about 2 cm. The two twisted areas of the tail of the brush and the twisted portion empoilée have a pitch of about 1 mm.

To make this applicator, after having introduced the layer of bristles between the branches of the U of the U-folded wire, the branches of the wire are wound in a first direction so as to form the empoiled portion 21 of the core 10. and the first twisted zone 22a of the tail 22 of the brush. Then, the two wires are held about 1 cm from the end of the tail of the brush and wound in the opposite direction so as to achieve the second twisted zone 22b of the tail of the brush.

The tail thus obtained is then partially heated and pressed into a hole 31 previously formed in the rod 30. The plastic of the rod melts slightly in contact with the tail and then matches the shape of the tail of the brush.

Thus, after hot insertion into the hole of the rod of the entire tail of the brush, namely twisted areas in both directions, any relative rotational movement of the brush relative to the rod becomes impossible without significant deformation of the rod, because screw a part of the tail of the brush is to unscrew the other part of the tail of the brush. Thus, the brush is very strongly maintained in rotation in the rod. The presence of the twisted zone in the rod also allows good axial retention.

According to this embodiment, the entire tail 22 of the brush is twisted in the same direction. However, the tail of the brush comprises a first twisted zone 22a of a first pitch, for example the same pitch as the empoilée portion of the core, and a second twisted zone 22b of a different pitch, this pitch being constant. The first twisted zone 22a of the tail of the brush has for example a pitch of approximately 1 mm and the second twisted zone 22b has for example a pitch of 1.5 mm.

Il augmente progressivement depuis la première zone torsadée jusqu'à l'extrémité de l'âme.FIG. 3 represents a third embodiment of the applicator 10 according to the invention. According to this embodiment, the entire tail 22 of the brush is also twisted in the same direction. However, the tail 22 of the brush comprises a first twisted zone 22a in a first step, for example the same pitch as the empoiled portion of the core. The second twisted zone 22b of the tail this time has a step different from the pitch of the first twisted zone but it is not constant throughout this zone. It increases gradually from the first twisted zone to the end of the soul.

In these last two embodiments, any relative rotational movement of the brush with respect to the rod is also impossible without significant deformation of the rod, because the pitch of the twisted zone of the tail of the brush is not constant and does not allow unscrewing. In addition, the presence of the twisted zone in the rod also allows good axial retention. The brush is again very strongly maintained in the stem.

US 6 227 735.FIG. 4 shows an alternative embodiment of the applicator illustrated in FIG. 1. According to this variant, the brush 40 differs from the brush according to FIG. 1 in that it is of the "left brush" type, the turns of the empoilated portion 21 of the twisted core rising from left to right when the brush is viewed from the front in a vertical position. With regard to the advantages resulting from a twisted core on the left, reference may be made to US Pat. No. 6,227,735.

The brush according to the variant of FIG. 5 differs from the brush according to FIG. 1 in that the empoilated portion 21 of the twisted core 20 is curved, the curvature substantially corresponding to the curvature of the line of implantation of the eyelashes on the eyelid. The tail of the soul is always right.

The assembly 100 comprises a container 50 containing a supply of cosmetic product such as mascara and an applicator 10. The applicator 10 comprises a twist-brush type applicator device attached to one end of an X-axis shaft 30. The other end the rod 30 is integral with a gripping member 60 which also constitutes a closure cap of the container 50. The container 50 comprises a wiper member 70 constituted in this case by a cylindrical sleeve whose end terminates in an annular lip, 71. In the mounted position of the applicator 10 on the container 50, the application device 10 is in its entirety between the wiper lip 71 and the bottom of the container. Other types of wiper members may be used, for example an open or semi open cell foam block, traversed axially by a slot or a passage, the edges of which delimit it are substantially contiguous in the absence of constraint.

Le mouvement d'extraction de l'applicateur est de direction sensiblement longitudinale à l'axe X. Après usage, l'utilisatrice remet l'applicateur dans le récipient, en faisant à nouveau passer le dispositif d'application 10 au travers de l'organe d'essorage 70.In order to use the applicator, the user unscrews the cap formed by the gripping member 60, and extracts the applicator 10 from the container 50. In doing so, the application device 10 is made to pass through the wiper member 70, so as to dose the amount of product distributed on the bristles. The extraction movement of the applicator is of substantially longitudinal direction to the axis X. After use, the user puts the applicator back into the container, again passing the application device 10 through the wiper member 70.

In the foregoing detailed description, reference has been made to preferred embodiments of the invention. It is obvious that variations can be made without departing from the invention as claimed hereinafter. In particular, the cross section of the brush perpendicular to the axis X can be of any other shape than circular, in particular polygonal, for example square, triangular, pentagonal, etc. ... Similarly, the cross section of the bristles can be of different forms, the brush may include bristles of a single type of section, or bristles of different sections, mixed.
