Abstract

In a cigarette maker, shredded tobacco (9) is directed by a conveyor (23) into a riser (24) and ascends as a flow of distinct particles (38) toward an aspirating belt (25), placed at the top outlet end of the riser (24), by which the particles are attracted and gathered progressively to form a stream of tobacco filler. The riser (24) is made up of a lower first portion (26) in receipt of the tobacco (9) from the conveyor (23), and an upper second portion (27) enclosed by the aspirating belt (25); the first portion (26) is embodied separately from the second portion (27), and the two portions are interconnected by the revolving surface of a toothed suction roller (32) designed to transfer a uniform layer of tobacco (9) from the first portion to the second.
