Definitions
- the invention relates to a disposable sabot for a subcaliber projectile, which consists of several, circumferentially juxtaposed and separated by joints separating sabot segments made of metal and which includes a pressure flange to which a frustoconical sabot area adjoins the rear side.
- Such sabots are for example from the EP 0 703 428 B1 or the DE 199 29 915 A1 are known and used especially in large-caliber ammunition, as they are fired in particular from armored weapons.
- a continuous, made of plastic sealing tape which is either sprayed onto the pressure flange or, as a whole component, is pressed into a groove-shaped recess of the pressure flange.
- a disadvantage of the known sabots that they are relatively heavy, because the sealing strip is supported almost vollkalibrig of the pressure flange of the respective sabot.
- the sealing tapes are relatively short in the known sabots, so that no long and deep erosion damage in the barrel can be compensated with these bands.
- the sealing tapes must be provided with additional cuts (predetermined breaking points) in order to support the separation of the sabot segments after the projectile has left the weapon barrel.
- a ring member with a front side inwardly projecting locking lug can be used as a sealing strip, which engages in a corresponding groove-shaped recess of the pressure flange.
- the locking nose is adjoined by a conical inner surface over which the sealing strip is supported on the frustoconical sabot area. This sealing tape protrudes on the rear over the pressure flange. Further details on the purpose of this embodiment of the sealing strip can not be found in this document.
- the invention has for its object to provide a sabot of the type mentioned, in which the detachment of the sabot segments of the projectile through the sealing strip is not or not substantially hindered.
- the invention is based essentially on the idea that the sealing strip is composed of a plurality of circumferentially juxtaposed and separated by joints sealing strip segments, wherein each one sealing band segment assigned to a sabot segment and connected to this form-fitting and / or non-positively.
- the sealing tape is therefore not sprayed as a whole component conventionally sprayed on the sabot or pressed as a whole component on the pressure flange of the sabot, but each individual sabot segment is connected to a separate sealing strip part.
- the connection of the sealing band segment and the corresponding sabot segment may be e.g. by gluing, welding, a positive connection (e.g., dovetail connection) or a frictional connection (e.g., by an axial interference fit).
- the rear-side region of the sealing strip has a recess which is open on the rear side, such that a first sealing lip bearing against the sabot and an outwardly directed second sealing lip are formed.
- the propellant charge gases push the second sealing lip against the inner wall of the weapon barrel, which leads to an improvement of the seal against otherwise laterally past the sabot propellant gases.
- This sealing movement of the second sealing lip can still be assisted by a bending groove arranged at the level of the bottom of the recess on the outside of the second sealing lip.
- Fig. 1 denoted by 1 is e.g. from a tank gun with smooth weapon tube shootable sub-caliber projectile referred. It essentially comprises a penetrator 2 with guide vanes 3 arranged on the rear side and a sabot 4 surrounding the penetrator 2, on the rear side of which a sleeve cover 5 for connecting the projectile 1 to a cartridge case (not shown) is fastened.
- the sabot 4 made of aluminum has (not shown) for supporting in the gun barrel two guide flanges 6, 7, wherein the rear-side guide flange 7, which is also referred to below as a pressure flange, a frustoconical sabot area 8 is connected.
- the sabot 4 is composed of three, in the circumferential direction side by side arranged sabot segments 9 together.

Description
The invention relates to a disposable sabot for a subcaliber projectile, which consists of several, circumferentially juxtaposed and separated by joints separating sabot segments made of metal and which includes a pressure flange to which a frustoconical sabot area adjoins the rear side.

A disadvantage of the known sabots, among other things, that they are relatively heavy, because the sealing strip is supported almost vollkalibrig of the pressure flange of the respective sabot. In addition, the sealing tapes are relatively short in the known sabots, so that no long and deep erosion damage in the barrel can be compensated with these bands. Finally, the sealing tapes must be provided with additional cuts (predetermined breaking points) in order to support the separation of the sabot segments after the projectile has left the weapon barrel.

This object is achieved by the features of claim 1. Further, particularly advantageous embodiments of the invention disclose the dependent claims.
The invention is based essentially on the idea that the sealing strip is composed of a plurality of circumferentially juxtaposed and separated by joints sealing strip segments, wherein each one sealing band segment assigned to a sabot segment and connected to this form-fitting and / or non-positively.
The sealing tape is therefore not sprayed as a whole component conventionally sprayed on the sabot or pressed as a whole component on the pressure flange of the sabot, but each individual sabot segment is connected to a separate sealing strip part. The connection of the sealing band segment and the corresponding sabot segment may be e.g. by gluing, welding, a positive connection (e.g., dovetail connection) or a frictional connection (e.g., by an axial interference fit).
The sabot is thus held together in the solution according to the invention only by the rear side arranged on the sabot vulcanization layer and existing sleeve cover by this. This Vulkanisationsschicht also causes an initial seal before the projectile is pressed on firing in the caliber area of the corresponding barrel.
It has proved to be advantageous if the rear-side region of the sealing strip has a recess which is open on the rear side, such that a first sealing lip bearing against the sabot and an outwardly directed second sealing lip are formed. As a result, on the one hand additionally reduces the weight of the sabot. On the other hand, when fired, the propellant charge gases push the second sealing lip against the inner wall of the weapon barrel, which leads to an improvement of the seal against otherwise laterally past the sabot propellant gases. This sealing movement of the second sealing lip can still be assisted by a bending groove arranged at the level of the bottom of the recess on the outside of the second sealing lip.

In Fig. 1, denoted by 1 is e.g. from a tank gun with smooth weapon tube shootable sub-caliber projectile referred. It essentially comprises a
The
On the outer circumference of the
The three
The rear area of both the
As can be seen from FIG. 2, the rear-side region of the sealing-band segment denoted by 14 'can have a
The invention is of course not limited to the embodiments described above.
