Definitions
- the present invention relates to cryogenic containers for gas phase storage of products, in particular biological, of the type comprising, in an envelope, an interior receptacle defining a volume interior accessible from the exterior by an access passage for the storage of products, and an intermediate receptacle enclosing the interior receptacle and defining with the latter an intermediate volume intended to receive a liquid cryogen.
- Containers of this type avoid the risk of cross contamination of stored organic products encountered usually due to the immersion of these in a cryogen bath liquid according to prior techniques. However, the presence of cryogen liquid outside the internal storage volume and no longer in the latter no longer allows easy detection of the level of cryogen, in particular by immersed gauge extending into the interior volume.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement of container allowing, in a simple and effective way, ergonomic and without additional costs significant, to accurately measure the level of cryogen in the chamber intermediate.
- the arrangement according to the invention also makes it possible to produce such a level measurement also with an access passage to the interior volume of reduced diameter which greatly limits heat losses and greatly increase product storage autonomy.
- the receptacles interior and intermediate are made of metal, are mounted in the envelope being electrically isolated from each other and are each connected by a line electrical to a device for measuring electrical capacity.
- the openings are used for the passage of electric lines connected to the receptacle and advantageously the passage of a filling pipe connectable to a source of cryogen to fill the intermediate volume, and allow the escape of cryogenic vapors to the outside in the intermediate volume.
- the present invention also relates to the use of such a container for gas phase storage of biological products.
- the container cryogenic includes, as main components, an envelope external self-supporting 1 enclosing an intermediate receptacle 2 which encloses itself an interior receptacle 3 defining an interior storage volume 4 accessible by an upper access passage 12, as will be seen more in detail below.
- the envelope 1 and the receptacles 2 and 3 are made of metal, typically stainless steel and / or aluminum.
- the receptacles 2 and 3 define between them an intermediate volume 5 intended to receive a volume of liquid cryogen 6 keeping cold the contents of the interior volume 4.
- the envelope 1 delimits, with the receptacle intermediate 2, an internal separation volume 7 advantageously provided super vacuum insulation. All of these elements have an axis of common symmetry.
- the casing 1 and the receptacles 2 and 3 each have an upper end portion in the form of a neck 8, 9 and 10, respectively, of the same reduced diameter with respect to the internal diameter of the inner receptacle 4.
- These collars 8-10 are fixed, by gluing, to a tube 11 in electrically and advantageously thermally insulating material, typically made of epoxy resin loaded with glass fibers, coaxial with necks 8, 9, 10.
- the tube 11 thus forms a passage 12 for access to the interior volume 4 selectively closable by the foam core 12 of a shutter cover 13.
- the tube 11 has a series of openings or through passages 15 angularly distributed in the annular zone between necks 9 and 10 of receptacles 2 and 3.
- conducting wires 16,17 grouping in a line 18 have their ends fixed to studs connection 19 and 20 welded to the facing faces of the upper zones of the receptacles 3 and 2.
- Line 18 passes through one of the openings 15 in the tube 11, runs along the latter in passage 12 to connect, outside the input passage, to a device 21 for measuring the electrical capacity between the two electrodes partially immersed in the volume of liquid cryogen 6 formed by the receptacles 2 and 3 themselves.
- the device 21 provides signals 22 to an external liquid level display (not shown).
- a filling tube 23 extends into the access passage 12 formed by the tube 11, passes through one of the openings 15 of the tube to open into the upper part of the volume intermediate 2, the outer end of the tube 23 being connected to a device 24 for connection and shutter capable of being put in communication with a source 25 of cryogen to fill or replenish the intermediate volume 5 with liquid cryogen 6.
- the core 13 of the plug 14 has longitudinal grooves 26 and 27 to accommodate the power line 18 and pipeline 23.
- receptacles 2 and 3 are electrically isolated from each other and with the envelope 1, the walls of the receptacles 2 and 3 thus constituting a capacitor whose capacity changes with the quantity of liquid cryogen 6 contained between them.
- This capacity, and therefore the level of cryogen 6 in the volume 5 is continuously measured via conductors 16,17 and the transducer 21, without in any way interfering with the internal volume of storage 4 where products can be stored freely without worry to strike internal constructive elements.
- the line 23 can, without require removal of the plug 14, be connected to a source 25 of cryogen to compensate for the evaporation of the latter, including the gas phase evaporated can escape freely through the openings 15 and the grooves 26-27 outwards, thus avoiding the risk of humid air entering by cryopumping in the interior volume 4.
