Description

  • The present invention relates to a locking system for a door or window according to the preamble of the main claim.
  • The document EP-A-666394, filed in the name of the present applicant, describes a safety locking system equipped with a plurality of blocking pins, which are mobile in a direction that is inclined with respect to the locking plane of the door, with the purpose of providing a greater resistance against burglary as compared to the solutions in which the blocking pins are mobile in a direction orthogonal to the locking plane.
  • US-A-1332958 discloses a lock mechanism having inclined blocking pins having rear ends which overlap each other and which slidably engage cam slots.
  • The inclined position of the blocking pins in a door or window has proven a very effective solution for increasing the safety of the locking system against burglary attempts.
  • The purpose of the present invention is to provide a locking system of an improved type that will enable a further increase in the degree of safety.
  • According to the present invention, said purpose is achieved by a locking system which has the characteristics that form the subject of the main claim.
  • The characteristics and advantages of the locking system according to the present invention will emerge clearly in the course of the ensuing detailed description, which is provided purely by way of nonlimiting example and in which:
    • Figure 1 is a front view of a door provided with locking systems according to the present invention;
    • Figure 2 is a perspective view of a locking system indicated by the arrow II in Figure 1;
    • Figure 3 is an elevation of the locking system of Figure 2;
    • Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views according to the arrows IV, V and VI of Figure 3; and
    • Figures 7, 8 and 9 are cross-sectional views, respectively, according to the lines VII-VII, VIII-VIII and IX-IX of Figure 3.
  • With reference to Figure 1, the number 10 designates a door for dwellings or the like that has a longitudinal edge 12, which defines a locking plane orthogonal to the plane of the door 10 and the trace of which in the plane of representation of Figure 1 is indicated by the line 14.
  • Mounted on the door 10 is a series of locking systems designated by 16 and 18. The locking system 16 consists of a safety lock controlled by a key. The locking systems designated by 18 are deviator devices connected to the safety lock 16 by means of transmission rods.
  • With reference to Figures 2 to 10, each deviator device 18 comprises a supporting and guide casing or shell 20 made of sheet metal, which includes a front wall 22 and a rear wall 24 parallel to one another, joined together by a bottom wall 25 and by two side walls 26.
  • The front wall 22 is provided with a central hole 28 with circular section and two lateral holes 30 with oval section, with the greater axis of the oval section parallel to the longitudinal axis of the front wall 22. The centres of the holes 28, 30 are aligned on a common axis. Alternatively, the axes of the holes may be offset with respect to one another by a few millimetres.
  • The rear wall 24 is provided with three guide slits 32, 34 and 36, which are parallel to one another and elongated in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rear wall 24. The guide slits 32, 34, and 36 and the holes 28, 30 may be provided with bushings made of synthetic self-lubricating material that reduce any sliding friction. The rear wall 24 has two flaps 38 orthogonal to the plane of the wall 24 and provided with respective articulation pins 40.
  • Each locking system 18 according to the present invention is equipped with a plurality of blocking pins 42, 44, 46. In the example illustrated in the figures, the locking system 18 is equipped with three blocking pins. The number and shape of the blocking pins can be varied with respect to what is illustrated herein, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
  • In general, each locking system can be equipped with two or more blocking pins inclined with respect to one another. With respect to the solution illustrated, any one of the blocking pins 42, 44, 46 can be omitted, or else each pin could be associated to one or more pins parallel thereto. The supporting and guide shell 20 will be modified with respect to what has previously been described according to the number of the blocking pins. Each blocking pin has a blocking portion 42a, 44a, 46a, and a guide portion 42b, 44b, 46b. Each blocking pin 42, 44, 46 is mobile in the direction of its own longitudinal axis between a position of blocking and a position of release. The longitudinal axes of the blocking pins 42, 44, 46 are inclined with respect to one another. In the example illustrated in the figures, the angle of inclination between the longitudinal axes of each pair of adjacent blocking pins is approximately 45°. The angle of inclination between each pair of adjacent blocking pins can range between approximately 30° and 120°. The blocking portions 42a, 44a, 46a have a cylindrical shape, with circular section or a section of another type. The longitudinal axes of the blocking portions 42a, 44a, 46a, designated respectively by 48, 50 and 52, coincide with the direction of movement of the respective blocking pins 42, 44, 46. The axes 48, 50, 52 are, preferably, substantially contained in a common plane orthogonal to the locking plane of the door.
  • The guide portion 42b, 44b, 46b of each blocking pin 42, 44, 46 is fixed in a permanent way to the corresponding blocking portion 42a, 44a, 46a. Preferably, said fixing is obtained by welding. The guide portions 42b, 44b, 46b have in cross section a flattened rectangular shape with a thickness in the region of a few millimetres. The guide portions 42b, 44b, 46b at least partially overlap one another in a direction orthogonal to the plane containing the longitudinal axes 48, 50, 52 of the blocking pins 42, 44, 46. Preferably, the sum of the thicknesses of the guide portions 42b, 44b, 46b and of the relative distances between said guide portions is equal to or smaller than the diameter of one of the blocking portions 42a, 44a, 46a.
  • The blocking portions 42a, 44a, 46a are slidably mounted in a guided way within the respective holes 28, 30. The oval shape of the lateral holes 30 derives from the intersection of the plane of the wall 22 with a circular-section cylinder having a diameter equal to the diameter of the blocking portions 46a, 44a, and directed according to the axis 50, 52 inclined with respect to the wall 22. The guide portions 42b, 44b, 46b are slidably mounted within the respective slits 32, 36, 34 formed in the rear wall 24.
  • In the embodiment illustrated by way of example in the figures, the central blocking pin 42 is mobile in a direction orthogonal to the front wall 22 and orthogonal to the locking plane of the door. The two lateral blocking pins 44, 46 are mobile along respective directions 50, 52 inclined by approximately 45° with respect to the direction of movement of the central blocking pin 42. The fact of having the guide portions 42b, 44b, 46b of the blocking pins offset and overlapping with respect to one another enables arrangement of the blocking portions 42a, 44a, and 46a with their axes 48, 50, 52 co-planar with respect to one another and in a position close up against one another. This enables the thickness of the locking system 18 to be kept equal to the thickness of conventional locking systems. The close arrangement with different inclination of the blocking pins increases considerably the safety against burglaries committed by attempting to deform the front edge of the door inwards in the plane of the door.
  • The locking system 18 is associated to an actuating mechanism that simultaneously controls movement of all the blocking pins 42, 44, 46 from the retracted position to the extracted position, and vice versa. In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the actuating mechanism comprises two appendages 54 fixed to the guide portion 42b of the central blocking pin 42. The two appendages 54 extend orthogonal to the guide portion 42b and are provided with respective guide slits 56 orthogonal to the axis 48 of the central blocking pin 42. The two guide slits 56 are engaged by respective pins 58 fixed to the guide portions 44b and 46b and projecting from the latter in a direction orthogonal to the respective axes 50, 52. The central blocking pin 42 is equipped with a projecting pin 60, which engages in slidable way a slit 62 formed in a lever 64 that is articulated on one of the pins 40 of the supporting and guide shell 20. The lever 64 has an end 66 articulated to a transmission rod 68 actuated by the safety lock 16.
  • The actuating mechanism may be the subject of numerous variants, without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention. For example, in one alternative embodiment, the guide portions 44b, 46b could be provided with respective longitudinal grooves engaged in a slidable way by one or more pins carried by the guide portion 42b of the central blocking pin 42. The projecting pin 60, which co-operates with the lever 64, could be set on any one of the blocking pins 42, 44 or 46. As further alternative, the lever 64, instead of being provided with the slit 62, could be provided with a pin which engages in a slidable way a groove of one of the blocking pins 42, 44, or 46.
  • The locking system according to the present invention may be used in a deviator device or else in a safety lock. For implementation of a deviator device, it is possible to mount the blocking pins 42, 44, 46 within guide holes made in the structure of the door or window, so that the supporting and guide shell 20 may be omitted.
