- the contact clamp is produced in a high performance alloy combining elastic and conductive properties.
- the body of the female contact part is made of a conventional conductive alloy.
- the contact part according to the invention comprises a contact part male (2) and a female contact part.
- a contact clamp (3) is attached on a cylindrical bearing surface (12) of the body (1) of the female contact part of the contact part by means of an annular portion (31) mounted by force and crimped on the cylindrical seat (12).
- the annular portion (31) must have good conduction properties.
- a housing (11) arranged axially in the body (1) of the female contact part is of dimensions and shape adapted to the male contact part (2).
- the housing (11) comprises possibly a through hole (15) to improve the quality of the treatment surface at the bottom of the housing (11).
- the male contact element (2) is a portion of cylinder ending at its front end with a cap hemispherical or possibly frustoconical.
- the contact clamp (3) is a part of revolution with an internal rim split to form tongues (32) whose profile is L-shaped ( Figures 5 and 6).
- the ends (33) of the tongues (32) are formed in the inner rim.
- the ends (33) of the tongues (32) ensure contact electric with the male contact element (2). This is why the tabs (32) must have very good conduction properties.
- the number slots, and therefore the number of tabs varies depending on the type of contact required.
- the ends (33) of the tongues (32) form an inlet cone (34).
- the shape and dimensions of this inlet cone (34) determine a certain basic characteristics of the contact part, such as insertion and retention forces, electrical resistance of contact, the number of operations and the intensity admissible by the contact.
- the internal diameter circumscribed by the inlet cone (34) is less to the diameter of the male contact piece (2). This ensures a permanent contact between the male contact element (2) and the ends (33) tabs (32) thanks to the very good elastic properties of the tabs (32) which deviate from the passage of the male element (2) but remain supported on it in all circumstances.
- the outer surface of the housing (11) can be with a slight taper towards the opening (10) to give more clearance to the elastic tabs (32).

- the male contact part (2) When inserting the male contact part (2), it first comes into contact with the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) of the contact clip (3) to separate them before entering the housing (11) located in the body (1) of the female contact part.
- the front faces of the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) have a shape suitable for cooperating with the front end of the male contact part (2) in order to facilitate the spacing of the tongues (32) and the introduction of the male contact part (2) in the housing (11).
- the housing (11) allows guide the male contact part (2) over a considerable distance and ensure good hold.
- the protective sleeve (4) is force fitted and crimped on the cylindrical portion (13) of the body (1) of the female contact part and possibly on the annular crown (31) which it then provides better hold.
- the protective sleeve (4) performs several functions.
- the orifice (41) located on its front face acts as a template accepting the passage of male contact parts (2) of suitable diameter and refusing the passage of male contact parts of diameter greater than that admissible by the female contact piece. So an important cause deterioration of the female connector element is eliminated. Indeed, the passage of a male contact piece of too large a diameter would have as a result permanent deformation of the elastic tabs (32).
- the inner surface of the protective sleeve (4) facing elastic tabs (32) is of sufficient size so as not to oppose the spreading movement of the elastic tongues (32) when the introduction of a male contact piece (2) as long as this spacing remains below a maximum value admissible by the elastic tongues (32), and avoids any permanent deformation by exceeding the area of elastic deformation of the tongues (32), for example in the case of a cross engagement of the male contact piece.
- the hole (41) also has a shape facilitating the introduction and guiding of the part male contact.
- This protective sleeve (4) is fixed on a surface cylindrical (13) of the body (1). It clamps the annular portion (31) of the clamp contact (3) on the cylindrical portion (12) of the body (1) of the contact part female.
- the annular portion (31) has a larger outside diameter than the diameter in which is inscribed the outer surface of the elastic tongues (32). This difference in diameter provides a clearance space allowing at the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) to retract sufficiently, without exceeding the range of elastic deformation of tabs (32), when the male contact part (2) passes.
- Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of the invention.
- the elastic tabs (32) of the contact clamp (3) are of such length that their ends (33) are behind the opening (10) of the housing (11) of the body (1) of the contact part.
- the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) come position in windows (14) made at the periphery of the body (1) and opening into the housing (11).
- the shape of the windows (14) is adapted to allow the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) to enter the housing (11).
- the ends (33) of the tongues (32) ensure electrical contact with the male contact part (2) positioned in the housing (11) through the windows (14).
- the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) also form an inlet cone (34).
- the internal diameter circumscribed by the inlet cone (34) is less than diameter of the male contact part (2) and therefore the inside diameter of the housing (11).
- This second embodiment of the invention does not require necessarily the presence of an outer protective sleeve (4). Indeed, during the insertion of the male contact part (2), the latter enters first in contact with the opening (10) of the housing (11) which serves as a template. No male contact element (2) of dimensions larger than those of housing (11) cannot reach the contact clamp (3) and therefore come damage. The risks of tearing or slipping of the tabs elastic (32) and the annular portion (31) of the contact clamp (3) are limited by the L-shaped profile of the elastic tabs (32). Indeed, the ends (33) of the elastic tongues (32) bear on the face lower windows (14) preventing tearing of the contact clip (3).
- the external position of the clamp (3) relative to the housing (11) greatly simplifies assembly operations in comparison with the tulip technique.
- the housing (11) being a simple cylinder it is less complex to manufacture than parts of the prior art. These features significantly reduce manufacturing costs.
- the external position of the contact clamp (3) also means that the workpiece contact according to the invention offers increased resistance to the test of the moment in comparison to tulip technology because it is the housing (11) of the body (1) of the female contact part which undergoes the stresses following offset of the male contact part (2) under the applied load.
- a major advantage of the two-part design of the element female contact is that it allows to realize the body (1) of the part of female contact and the contact clamp (3) in different materials.
- the contact clamp (3) ensures the electrical contact with the male contact part (2), via the ends (33) of the elastic tongues (32), it alone must have the conductive and elastic characteristics required.
- the pliers contact (3) will be made of a suitable high performance alloy, such as an alloy of copper and beryllium, and will be subject to different treatments required (heat treatments, gold plating or money, etc.).
- the body (1) (and therefore the cylindrical portions (12, 13)) of the female contact part can be made of an alloy cheaper conductor, such as brass, and will be subject to more reduced heat and surface treatments, in the case where such treatments would be necessary, such as at the level of the thickness of gold.
- the external position of the contact clamp (3) also allows to make the housing (11) of the female contact part support the major part of the mechanical forces transmitted by the male contact part (2). This generates better resistance to stresses, vibrations and increased reliability of the contact part.
- the external position of the contact clamp (3) finally allows to have a contact point very close to the front face of the contact part female, as required by the most demanding standards.
- the present invention therefore presents a more contact part. simple and less expensive to manufacture and which offers resistance and increased reliability, especially in terms of the current test.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrical contact part consisting of a male contact part and a female contact part. The invention relates more particularly to the female contact part of the contact part.
The electrical contact parts are used at very large scale in many areas. Aeronautics, space, military and telecommunications are among the most connectors users. Several specifications or standards, including by example MIL standards and more particularly MIL-C 39029, define the characteristics that the contact part must fulfill, such as for example the values of the insertion and retention forces exerted on the male contact part by female contact part and resistance minimal to aggression tests such as the moment test. This test consists applying a radial load on the male contact part of the workpiece contact at a point on its longitudinal axis located at a distance from the part contact socket fixed by the standard, then have the part of female contact of the contact part several rotations on itself. he this is a severe test for contact parts. The quality of the connection The electrical installation carried out rests essentially on the female contact part. It is therefore on the latter that the greatest vigilance is focused from the design phase because its mechanical and conductive characteristics guarantee the good quality of the electrical contact with the part of male contact.
- forced to produce the entire part in an expensive conductive alloy.
- need to perform heat treatments on certain parts of the room to give them the required mechanical and conductive characteristics.
- need to cover the part, or a large part of the part with a gold or silver plating of large thickness to give it the desired conductive properties.
It is known from the prior art, many embodiments of parts contact using tulip technology. This technology requires numerous and costly manufacturing operations: the part is first machined, then split along its longitudinal axis into several places depending on the number of tabs required, and finally the tabs are tightened to form a spring clip. These operations are all more complex and expensive than the diameter of the contact parts is small.
Such parts do not meet the requirements of certain standards such as standards for spaceborne equipment, or subject to harsh environments or mechanical stress important. Indeed, tulip technology does not provide connectors able to withstand the test of the moment which is a necessary step for obtaining certain standards. During this test, the tabs elastic which make the contact are totally deteriorated at the end of this test since they are the ones that absorb all the forces at play during this is.
The closest prior art is taught by the EP patent 1 107 378 A1, relating to a contact part for a connector electric. This female type contact piece is designed in two parts: a body and a contact clip. The contact clip is attached inside of the body of the contact part. This two-part design allows overcome some of the drawbacks of the previous embodiments cited more top: indeed, in this embodiment, only the contact clip must have the mechanical qualities, especially elastic, and conductive qualities requiring the use of an expensive high performance alloy. This allows therefore to make the body of the contact part in a less alloy expensive.
However, this embodiment has the following drawbacks: contact clip being produced using tulip technology, it requires tightening of the tabs, as well as shaping the arched portion of the tabs. The contact clip is fixed inside a bore made in the body of the female contact piece, which requires costly machining and adjustment operations, especially as the diameter of the contact parts is small. The numerous operations for inserting and removing the male contact part inherent in use normal of the connector create a risk of tearing off the sound tulip housing located in the body of the female contact piece. The shape in tulip of the contact clip also makes it more exposed to damage by case of cross engagement of a male contact piece. The connectors of this type therefore have a certain fragility and inherent weaknesses by design, as well as a relatively distant electrical contact point of the front face of the entry of the female contact piece which does not does not meet the requirements of certain standards. Plus this kind of connectors does not stand the test of the moment since it is manufactured according to the tulip technique.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the art anterior by making a female contact piece requiring fewer, therefore less expensive, manufacturing operations an increased success rate in the current test, and a point of contact electric near the front end of the female contact piece, thus meeting the requirements of certain standards.

The contact part according to the invention comprises a contact part male (2) and a female contact part. A contact clamp (3) is attached on a cylindrical bearing surface (12) of the body (1) of the female contact part of the contact part by means of an annular portion (31) mounted by force and crimped on the cylindrical seat (12). The annular portion (31) must have good conduction properties. A housing (11) arranged axially in the body (1) of the female contact part is of dimensions and shape adapted to the male contact part (2). The housing (11) comprises possibly a through hole (15) to improve the quality of the treatment surface at the bottom of the housing (11). The male contact element (2) is a portion of cylinder ending at its front end with a cap hemispherical or possibly frustoconical. So the inside diameter of the housing (11) will be just greater than the maximum diameter of the part of male contact (2) allowing it to enter the housing (11). The contact clamp (3) is a part of revolution with an internal rim split to form tongues (32) whose profile is L-shaped (Figures 5 and 6). The ends (33) of the tongues (32) are formed in the inner rim. The ends (33) of the tongues (32) ensure contact electric with the male contact element (2). This is why the tabs (32) must have very good conduction properties. The number slots, and therefore the number of tabs varies depending on the type of contact required.
The ends (33) of the tongues (32) form an inlet cone (34). The shape and dimensions of this inlet cone (34) determine a certain basic characteristics of the contact part, such as insertion and retention forces, electrical resistance of contact, the number of operations and the intensity admissible by the contact.
The internal diameter circumscribed by the inlet cone (34) is less to the diameter of the male contact piece (2). This ensures a permanent contact between the male contact element (2) and the ends (33) tabs (32) thanks to the very good elastic properties of the tabs (32) which deviate from the passage of the male element (2) but remain supported on it in all circumstances. To make the clamp contact (3) according to the invention, the operation of tightening the tabs practiced in the prior art is no longer necessarily required which allows substantial savings on manufacturing costs. The outer surface of the housing (11) can be with a slight taper towards the opening (10) to give more clearance to the elastic tabs (32).
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention (Figure 1), the elastic tabs (32) have a length such that their ends (33) are located in front of the opening of the housing (11) of the body (1) of the part of female contact. When inserting the male contact part (2), it first comes into contact with the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) of the contact clip (3) to separate them before entering the housing (11) located in the body (1) of the female contact part. The front faces of the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) have a shape suitable for cooperating with the front end of the male contact part (2) in order to facilitate the spacing of the tongues (32) and the introduction of the male contact part (2) in the housing (11). The housing (11) allows guide the male contact part (2) over a considerable distance and ensure good hold.
This arrangement requires the presence of a protective sleeve (4) surrounding the contact clamp (3) and which may have properties of conduction. The protective sleeve (4) is force fitted and crimped on the cylindrical portion (13) of the body (1) of the female contact part and possibly on the annular crown (31) which it then provides better hold. The protective sleeve (4) performs several functions. First, the orifice (41) located on its front face acts as a template accepting the passage of male contact parts (2) of suitable diameter and refusing the passage of male contact parts of diameter greater than that admissible by the female contact piece. So an important cause deterioration of the female connector element is eliminated. Indeed, the passage of a male contact piece of too large a diameter would have as a result permanent deformation of the elastic tabs (32). Second, the inner surface of the protective sleeve (4) facing elastic tabs (32) is of sufficient size so as not to oppose the spreading movement of the elastic tongues (32) when the introduction of a male contact piece (2) as long as this spacing remains below a maximum value admissible by the elastic tongues (32), and avoids any permanent deformation by exceeding the area of elastic deformation of the tongues (32), for example in the case of a cross engagement of the male contact piece. The hole (41) also has a shape facilitating the introduction and guiding of the part male contact. This protective sleeve (4) is fixed on a surface cylindrical (13) of the body (1). It clamps the annular portion (31) of the clamp contact (3) on the cylindrical portion (12) of the body (1) of the contact part female. This constitutes additional security as regards resistance to tearing of the clamp (3), the latter undergoing the axial forces of the workpiece male contact (2) during numerous connections and disconnections inherent in its operation as well as during the test of the moment. The annular portion (31) has a larger outside diameter than the diameter in which is inscribed the outer surface of the elastic tongues (32). This difference in diameter provides a clearance space allowing at the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) to retract sufficiently, without exceeding the range of elastic deformation of tabs (32), when the male contact part (2) passes.
In this second embodiment, the elastic tabs (32) of the contact clamp (3) are of such length that their ends (33) are behind the opening (10) of the housing (11) of the body (1) of the contact part. The ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) come position in windows (14) made at the periphery of the body (1) and opening into the housing (11). The shape of the windows (14) is adapted to allow the ends (33) of the elastic tabs (32) to enter the housing (11). There are as many windows (14) as there are elastic tabs (32). Thus, the ends (33) of the tongues (32) ensure electrical contact with the male contact part (2) positioned in the housing (11) through the windows (14).
The internal diameter circumscribed by the inlet cone (34) is less than diameter of the male contact part (2) and therefore the inside diameter of the housing (11).
These two embodiments are similar and have a certain number of common features and benefits.
Thus, the external position of the clamp (3) relative to the housing (11) greatly simplifies assembly operations in comparison with the tulip technique. The housing (11) being a simple cylinder it is less complex to manufacture than parts of the prior art. These features significantly reduce manufacturing costs. The external position of the contact clamp (3) also means that the workpiece contact according to the invention offers increased resistance to the test of the moment in comparison to tulip technology because it is the housing (11) of the body (1) of the female contact part which undergoes the stresses following offset of the male contact part (2) under the applied load.
A major advantage of the two-part design of the element female contact is that it allows to realize the body (1) of the part of female contact and the contact clamp (3) in different materials. In indeed, according to the principle of the invention, only the contact clamp (3) ensures the electrical contact with the male contact part (2), via the ends (33) of the elastic tongues (32), it alone must have the conductive and elastic characteristics required. So only the pliers contact (3) will be made of a suitable high performance alloy, such as an alloy of copper and beryllium, and will be subject to different treatments required (heat treatments, gold plating or money, etc.). In contrast, the body (1) (and therefore the cylindrical portions (12, 13)) of the female contact part can be made of an alloy cheaper conductor, such as brass, and will be subject to more reduced heat and surface treatments, in the case where such treatments would be necessary, such as at the level of the thickness of gold.
The external position of the contact clamp (3) also allows to make the housing (11) of the female contact part support the major part of the mechanical forces transmitted by the male contact part (2). This generates better resistance to stresses, vibrations and increased reliability of the contact part.
The external position of the contact clamp (3) finally allows to have a contact point very close to the front face of the contact part female, as required by the most demanding standards.
Alternatively, one can add on the embodiment of Figure 2 a external protective sleeve improving the tightening of the crown annular (31) and protecting the elastic lamellae (32) from attack mechanical.
The present invention therefore presents a more contact part. simple and less expensive to manufacture and which offers resistance and increased reliability, especially in terms of the current test.
It should be obvious to those skilled in the art that the present invention allows embodiments under many other specific forms without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed. Therefore, the present modes of realization must be considered as illustration but can be modified in the field defined by the scope of the appended claims.
