  • one or two cup portions 31-33 are integral with the central base 30, the one or both cup portions and the central base 30 being for example machined in one piece.
  • the central base 30 then comprises the male hook 54 and the cup portions, other than those associated with the central base 30, comprise the female hooks 51-53. It is even also possible, in order to limit the number of female hooks, to associate at least two of these other cup portions with one and the same female hook 51-53.
  • each female hook 51-53 is constituted by a ring 55 and the male hook 54 is constituted by a lug 56 on which the rings are able to be fitted by stacking on each other and by means 57 for securing the rings 55 with the lug 56.
  • the lug is constituted by a threaded rod, these means 57 can be constituted by a nut or the like.
  • the portions of cup 31-33 are four in number. They are distributed at ninety degrees relative to each other and a ring 55 is associated with each.
  • the means 34 therefore comprise four rings stacked on the lug 56, and these rings are associated with the cup portions 31-33 so as to be offset in height relative to each other in order to be able to be plugged into the lug 56 while maintaining the position of the cup portions with respect to each other, so that their outer faces form a continuous hemispherical surface and their inner faces form the housing 21 intended to receive the insert 23, as shown in this FIG. 3.

  • these means 63 for associating the two portions of exterior 61 and interior 62 walls consist of male-female fitting means 70, FIG. 4.
  • these male-female fitting means 70 consist of a through-hole 71 made in the outer wall portion 61 and by an oblong stud 72 integral with the inner wall portion 62, this stud being shaped to be plugged into the through hole and its length being greater than the depth of the through hole 71, so that it can for example be implanted in the iliac bone 6 in the case of a hip prosthesis.
  • the axis 73 of the stud 72 is substantially located on a radius of the hemispherical cup 20.
  • At least one of the flexible wall parts 41, 42 is sandwiched between at least two portions of walls 61, 62 and secured to these to constitute a portion of cup 31-33, FIG. 2 and 4.
  • the means 63 for associating the two portions of exterior wall 61 and interior wall 62 are constituted by this portion of flexible wall itself, which is sandwiched between the two portions of exterior and interior walls and secured to them, for example by welding, gluing or the like.
  • the flexible wall portions 41, 42 are made in one piece and all the cup portions formed with the exterior wall 61 and interior 62 portions, as well as the central base 30, are associated with this piece by sandwiching it.
  • This structure gives the cup a certain flexibility of deformation, when it is not yet implanted.
  • the cup stiffens when it is implanted in the acetabular cavity of the iliac bone and the insert 23 is inserted, for example by force, into the housing 21.
  • To implant a acetabulum according to the invention as described below above a small incision is made in the patient's flesh.
  • the preparation of the acetabulum and the medullary canal of the femur for implantation is preferably obtained using tools controlled by computer according to the current techniques known in themselves. This work can be done by performing, not not a dislocation of the hip, but simply a distraction of the hip with a slight offset for example by applying a tension force between the leg and the patient's pelvis.
  • the cup 20 is introduced into the acetabular cavity, in its folded form for the embodiments according to FIGS. 2 and 4, then it is unfolded to take its final shape.
  • the cup is introduced into the acetabular cavity element by element and assembled in situ.
  • the introduction of the cup is generally carried out by first placing the central base 30 for example by screwing the screw 36 into the bottom of the acetabular cavity of the bone iliac, then by associating one by one the portions of cup 31-33 by threading the rings 55 on the lug 56, and finally by screwing the nut 57 to perfect the cup 20 in its final form.
  • the insert 23 is in turn passed through the incision and introduced into the housing, which generally does not pose any difficulty since it is small compared to the cup when it has taken its final shape. It is then inserted into the cup, if necessary by clipping, which allows the cup to be well maintained in its final deployed shape and to stiffen it, the latter being furthermore held externally against the wall of the acetabular cavity of the iliac bone. .
  • the prosthesis stem 4 supporting the male spherical part 3 of the patella is introduced into the medullary canal 7 of the femur 8.
  • the acetabulum according to the invention advantageously comprises means of hoop 80 which allow the cup portions 31, 32, 33 to be maintained and prevent them from moving apart from each other in the manner of the petals of a flower.
  • FIG. 5 represents a first embodiment of the acetabulum according to the invention, in which the hoop means 80 consist of an external strapping 81 which is positioned on the external surface of the portions of the cup 31-33 deployed.
  • This external strapping 81 is constituted by a sheath or analogous in the form of a segment of a sphere as illustrated in FIG. 5, made of a biocompatible material such as stainless steel, which may advantageously have, on its internal surface, for example, pins 82 capable of being positioned in complementary holes 83 made in the outer wall of the cup portions to prevent the sheath from going up along the cup 20.
  • the external strapping 81 may also consist of a ring strand or of a rod or the like, made of a biocompatible material, capable of fitting into a circular groove produced at the periphery of the cup 20.
  • FIG. 6 represents a another embodiment of the acetabulum, in which the hoop means 80 are constituted by an inner strapping 91.
  • This inner strapping 91 is made up of ring portions 92, 93 integral with the inner wall of each cup portion 31-33, which form, inside the cup 20 when the cup portions 31-33 are deployed, a projecting part 94 of substantially cylindrical shape of revolution substantially centered on the axis 95 which passes through the pole 96 and the centers 97 of the cup 20 and of the spherical cavity 24.
  • This cylindrical projecting part of revolution 94 is able to cooperate with a complementary groove made in the outer wall of the insert 23 when it is placed in the cup as in the cups of the prior art.
