Beschreibungdescription
The invention relates to an extruder according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
In an extruder with a cutting plate of a granulator in the embodiment of an underwater granulator, the problem arises that the temperature of the cutting plate decreases by the cooling effect of the water so that the extrudate in the extruder die cools too much. As a result, the viscosity of the extrudate increases, or worse, if the extrudate solidifies prematurely. To prevent this, the cutting plate is usually heated. For this purpose, the cutting plate of extruders according to the prior art is tempered directly by heat-exchanging media as a rule. Usually, the cutting plate of the underwater granulator is attached to the cylinder of the extruder via a standardized head connection and an adapter.
A disadvantage of this tempering according to the prior art is that when dismantling the cutting plate, the connections of the heat exchanging medium must be removed on the cutting plate. This assembly effort makes handling the tempering difficult. Depending on the version, the indirectly heated insert is held by an additional ring, which must be heated separately. To disassemble the insert, this ring must be removed.
The invention has for its object to provide a generic extruder, which is simple and easy to handle.
This object is achieved by an extruder having the features of claim 1.
In the extruder according to the invention, the cutting plate is connected directly to the lying in the conveying direction of the extruder end of the cylinder. This makes it possible to integrate the heating elements in the cylinder. The heating elements are in arranged in the cylinder in close proximity to the contact surface of the cylinder to the cutting plate in order to achieve the best possible thermal coupling of the heating elements to the cutting plate. In the case of the connection of the cutting plate of the underwater granulator via a standardized head connection and an adapter to the cylinder of the extruder, the head connection and the adapter provide additional thermal resistance, so that indirect heating via the cylinder would not be possible.
Preferably, the cylinder is modularly constructed from axial cylinder segments. This simplifies the production, in particular with respect to the two axial bores for the screws. In addition, the modular design of the cylinder allows some flexibility without causing a greater length. The individual modules can correspond to certain processes during extrusion.
The heating elements are advantageously heating cartridges. Without the high cost of a heat-exchanging medium, the heating is done in this way very directly, locally and flexibly controlled.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the heating cartridges are received in through holes through the cylinder. If a heating cartridge fails, it can easily be knocked out of the through hole. Preferably, the heating cartridges are arranged in the form of a polygon in the cylinder. This arrangement has the advantage of a uniform heat distribution over the circumference in itself, similar to a star-shaped arrangement, but avoids blind holes from which the heating cartridges would have to be pulled out when replacing. With clamping cartridge heaters, the pulling device could tear off and the heating cartridges would have to be drilled out.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, two screws are received in overlapping, axially extending bores in the cylinder of the extruder. In the conveying direction of the screws, a channel adjoins the holes whose output-side cross-section coincides with the cross-section of the inlet opening of the cutting plate. By adapting the outlet cross section of the cylinder to the inlet cross section of the insert, an adapter becomes unnecessary. The cutting plate can be connected directly to the cylinder without high flow losses occur on staged flow resistances in the flow channel cross-section at the contact surface between the cylinder and the insert. The immediate connection from the insert to the cylinder is essential, however, to ensure good heat transfer from the heating elements to the insert. An integration of the heating elements in the cylinder is desirable only with a good heat transfer to the cutting plate, ie in a direct connection of the cutting plate to the cylinder.
Preferably, the overlapping, axially extending bores extend into the inlet-side part of the last cylinder segment of a cylinder constructed in a modular fashion from axial cylinder segments. The worms in this last cylinder segment have a shape which generates a pressure build-up in the extrudate during rotation. The adjoining the holes channel is located in the outlet side of the last cylinder segment. This structure has the advantage of particularly low pressure losses.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the cylinder has a receiving recess in which at least half of the cutting plate volume is enclosed. This has the advantage that the cutting plate is well bordered and the heat can flow not only axially, but also radially over the lateral surface of the insert.
The extruder is preferably used for granulating thermoplastic compositions in compounding processes.
In drawings, an embodiment of the invention is shown.

Fig. 2 is a cylinder segment of Fig. 1 in a cylinder axis containing the cutting plane, which penetrate two of the four arranged in a square through holes for receiving heating cartridges, and in which two overlapping, axially extending holes penetrate, which open into a channel for adjusting the cross section in the outlet side part of this cylinder segment, and an attached to the cylinder segment cutting plate.
In a cylinder segment 1 of an extruder two overlapping axial bores 2, 3 extend, which receive two screws, not shown. In the illustration of FIG. 2, the screws promote from left to right. The illustrated cylinder segment 1 is the last segment of an extruder constructed from a plurality of cylinder modules, not shown. At the outlet side of the cylinder segment 1 - in Fig. 2, the right side - an insert 4 is connected. At the end of the cylinder segment 1 connected to the cutting plate 4, the bores 2, 3 widen conically to form a channel 5 which terminates with a circular cross-section at the end face of the cylinder. The outlet cross section of the channel 5 of the cylinder segment 1 and the inlet cross section of a continuous channel system 6 of the cutting plate 4 are congruent. The cross section of the flow channel system 6 tapers in the direction of delivery to holes 7 through the cutting plate 4, which tapers again. Upon exiting these holes 7, the extrudate forms a strand which is cut into granules by a knife, not shown. Four arranged in a square through holes 8 for receiving heating cartridges, not shown, are arranged in the immediate vicinity of the output-side end of the cylinder segment 1. The attachment of the heating elements is optimized for optimum heat transfer to the insert. The contact surface between the last cylinder segment 1 and the cutting plate 4 represents a thermal resistance. The heat conduction is dependent on the size of the contact surface. In order to design the contact surface as large as possible, the last cylinder segment 1 has at its output end a receiving recess 9, in the good half of the cutting plate 4 is enclosed. The heat can flow through this structural measure not only axially but also radially over the lateral surface of the cutting plate 4 in this. The arrangement of the heating elements aims to evenly use the entire contact surface uniformly for the heat transfer to the cutting plate 4. The heating elements are therefore mounted at a radially outer position, almost at the radius of the receiving recess 9, to allow a good thermal coupling of the receiving recess 9 for the cutting plate 4 comprehensive rebate of the last cylinder segment 1 by short heat conduction paths. In its axial position, the through holes for the heating elements are mounted very close to the end face of the recess. The distance of the through holes from the end face of the recess measures less than its diameter. Due to the favorable positioning of the heating elements with respect to the entire contact surface and the low Distance of the heating elements to the contact surface, the thermal inertia of the temperature control is low. The inclusion of the heating elements in through holes allows a very quick replacement of defective heating elements, since these - even if they clamp in their seat - can be beaten with a few strokes through the through holes.
