- the pump body has a side opening allowing the product contained in the container to enter the pumping chamber when the pump is used upside down.
- the mobile assembly includes a lip making it possible to isolate the opening above of the pumping chamber after a certain depression in the pump body.
- Such a pump comprises two helical springs which are in contact with the product, which can cause a compatibility problem between the spring metal and the product.
- this pump has a relatively high number of parts, which affects its manufacturing cost.
- This orifice is not made on the pump body.
- the invention makes it possible in particular to reduce the risk of product leakage in the event of for holding the pump upside down, at rest.
- the mobile assembly comprising a dispensing orifice, this orifice can be locate for example on the side opposite to the opening if it is unique, which avoids the pumping chamber to empty in the event of use of the pump substantially at the horizontal with the dispensing opening facing down.
- the first and second lips each have a substantially frustoconical shape, diverging towards the pumping chamber.
- the mobile assembly has a third lip arranged so as to be applied to the pump body to close the return air passage when the mobile assembly is at the end of its travel product distribution, which allows, when the pump is used upside down, to avoid a leakage of product to the outside if the mobile assembly is kept too long in its end position.
- the pump body and the second lip can be arranged to so as to close the air intake passage when the mobile assembly is at the end of its travel, in which case the mobile assembly can be devoid of a third lip.
- the pump body can for example comprise at least one recess, in particular a channel extending parallel to the axis along which the mobile assembly moves, this indentation being located between two regions to which the second lip is applied when the mobile assembly occupies its rest and end positions respectively race, this recess allowing communication between said regions when the mobile assembly occupies an intermediate position between its rest and end positions race.
- the mobile assembly has a push button and an insert attached to it, the push button and the insert being arranged to define together a passage for the outlet of the product, at least when the pump is activated to dispense product.
- the above first, second and third lips can be produced on the insert.
- the push button has two portions, one of which is fixed relative to the insert and the other of which is movable by relative to it, the movable part of the push button and the insert may include Respective surfaces capable of cooperating to close the passage for the product outlet when the mobile assembly is in its rest position and to open said passage when the mobile portion has moved a determined distance from the fixed part.
- the push button is arranged to so that the movable part can move the aforementioned determined distance from insert, from its rest position, only when the force exerted on the push button exceeds a threshold. This can clear the passage for the exit of the produced only when the latter has been compressed in the pumping chamber.
- the fixed portion and the movable portion of the push button can be connected between them by a veil of elastically deformable material, this veil may have an annular shape.
- the pump comprises a elastic return element, capable of returning the mobile assembly to its rest position.
- This elastic return element can be placed outside the pumping chamber and include for example a helical spring working in compression.
- the elastic return element is made in one piece with the push button.
- the pump body is arranged to allow the attachment of a dip tube and the pump may include a valve closing when the volume of the pumping chamber decreases and opening when the volume of the pumping chamber increases, this valve being arranged so as to allow the product to be supplied with product through the tube plunger when the pump is used head up.
- the volume of the pumping chamber, in the position of rest, is greater than the volume of a dose of product to be dispensed, which makes it possible to reduce the risk of defusing the pump.
- the push button is entirely fixed relative to the insert, the latter being able to comprise a skirt capable of cooperating tightly with a pin on the pump body when the pump is at rest, so isolate the pumping chamber from the outside.
- the insert may include a valve capable of closing an upper opening of the skirt when the volume of the pumping chamber increases and to allow the passage of produced by it when the volume of the pumping chamber decreases.
- the valve may include a connected shutter, before the first use of the pump, to the skirt by a veil of frangible material.
- the shutter can come into abutment against the pin when the push button is pressed in order to cause the breaking of the veil frangible matter.
- the skirt can be fitted before the first use of the pump with a shutter which is for example connected to the skirt by a veil of frangible material.
- a shutter which is for example connected to the skirt by a veil of frangible material.
- the invention also relates to a container equipped with a pump such as defined above.
- FIG. 1 There is shown in Figures 1 and 9 a pump 1 mounted on a neck 2 of axis X of a container 3 containing a product P to be distributed.
- the pump 1 comprises a fixed part 4 and a mobile assembly 5, which can be move along the X axis.
- the fixed part 4 comprises a mounting skirt 9 secured to the neck 2 of the container 3.
- the mounting skirt 9 is snapped onto the neck 2 but, in alternatively, it could be fixed otherwise, for example by screwing or crimping.
- the mounting skirt 9 is extended upwards by a cylindrical wall 10 having at its upper end an annular bead 11 directed inwards.

- This rod connects to the first portion 32 by a web of material 37, elastically deformable and of shape annular.
- the insert 31 comprises a central duct 39 into which the second engages portion 36 of the push button 30 by providing a passage 38 serving for the outlet of the product when the pump is activated to dispense product.
- the insert 31 has a first annular lip 40 arranged to be applied tightly against the inner surface 16a of the pump body 14 when the mobile assembly 5 has moved from the rest position of FIG. 1 of a stroke determined down, as shown in Figure 2.
- the insert 31 comprises above the first lip 40 a second lip annular 41 applying sealingly against the inner surface 15a when the mobile assembly is in its rest position, as illustrated in FIG. 1.
- this second lip 41 is chosen so that when the latter left the annular bead 17, during the displacement of the mobile assembly 5 for decrease the volume of the pumping chamber 6, the lip 41 ceases to apply so watertight on the upper wall 15 and cleaning with the latter an air return passage 42 allowing the inside of the container 3 to communicate with the outside through openings 18, as illustrated in FIG. 2.
- the lips 40 and 41 each have a shape frustoconical, diverging towards the pumping chamber 6.
- a third annular lip 45 is produced on the insert 31, above the second lip 41, so as to apply tightly to the interior surface 15a when the mobile assembly 5 is in its position at the end of the dispensing stroke, as illustrated in FIG. 3, in order to close the air return passage 42.
- the second portion 36 of the push button 30 has an annular lip 46 able to be applied sealingly on the insert 31 to close the outlet passage 38 of the product when the mobile assembly 5 is in its rest position.
- a recess such as an annular groove is made on the insert 31 and the lip 46 is positioned opposite this recess when the second portion 36 moved down a certain distance from insert 31, as shown in FIG. 2, which allows the passage of the product leaving the pumping chamber towards outlet 34.
- the push button 30 includes a helical spring 49 working in compression, carried out in the example considered in one piece with the first portion 32, in the downward extension thereof.
- Spring 49 fits between the walls outside 10 and inside 15 of the fixed part 4.
- pump 1 The operation of pump 1 is as follows.
- pump 1 is used head up, being initially in its rest position illustrated in FIG. 1. It is assumed that the pumping chamber 6 is filled with product, following a previous pump actuation cycle.
- the inside of the container is isolated from the outside by tight contact of the second lip 41 on the inner surface 15a and also sealed contact of the lip 46 of the push button on the surface 31a of the insert 31 located above the recess 47.
- the user presses down on the second portion 36, central, of the push button 30.
- the mobile assembly 5 begins by moving relative to the part fixed 4 of the pump without the displacement of the second portion 36 relative to the first portion 32 is sufficient for the lip 46 to cease to apply so watertight on the surface 31a of the insert 31.
- passage 38 for the exit of the product remains closed by the lip 46 at least until the first lip 40 comes to bear sealingly on the surface 16a of the pump body 14.
- the pressure of the product contained in the pumping chamber 6 increases with continued movement of the mobile assembly, the ball 21 being pressed against its seat.
- the force necessary to move the mobile assembly 5 relative to the part fixed 4 increases as the product is compressed in the pressure chamber pumping 6, and the force exerted on the push button 30 becomes at a certain moment sufficient for the web of material 37 to deform to the point of allowing the lip 46 reach recess 47.
- the second lip 41 has ceased to apply sealingly to the surface 15a, so that the interior of the container was able to communicate with the outside through the openings 18 and the passage 42, in order to allow air intake, if applicable.
- the third lip 45 is applied to the surface 15a, which closes the communication between the interior of the container and the exterior via passage 42.
- the helical spring 49 is compressed.
- the veil of material 37 tends to return to its initial configuration and the second portion 36 to move up relative to the first portion 32, which restores contact watertight between the lip 46 and the insert 31 and closes the passage 38 making it communicate the interior of the pumping chamber 6 and the outlet orifice 34.
- the continued upward movement of the mobile assembly 5 relatively at the fixed part 4 is accompanied by a suction of product in the pumping chamber 6 under the effect of the depression which is created therein, the first lip 40 applying to the surface 16a.
- the air can be taken back through passage 42, to compensate for inside the container the volume of product withdrawn by the pump.
- the air which is sucked into the container can oppose the exit of the product through the passage 42, because of its narrowness.
- the pump returns to its rest position, the product can remain inside the pumping chamber 6 because the ball 21 tends, under the effect of its weight, to be applied against its seat and to close the orifice 23.
- the pumping chamber 6 can be fill through the openings 18.
- the product is dispensed in the same way than in head-up position.
- the pump is used in a intermediate position between its head-up and head-down positions, with the outlet 34 pointing downwards, if the container contains enough product.
- the pumping chamber 6 has a volume greater than that of the dose being dispensed, which may reduce the risk of defusing of the pump.
- FIGS. 4 to 7 show a pump 60 comprising a fixed part 61 and a mobile assembly 62 which can move along the X axis.
- the fixed part 61 is similar to the fixed part 4 previously described in except that, in the example considered, the ball 21 is retained in its housing by bosses 63 produced on lugs 64 connecting to the bottom of the pump body 65 and that the openings 18 are replaced by a single opening 88 located on the side opposite the dispensing orifice 70.
- the mobile assembly 62 comprises a push button 67 in which is reported insert 68.
- the push button 67 has a first portion 69 which is fixed by compared to the insert 68 and which includes the dispensing orifice 70, which is similar to the dispensing orifice 34 previously described.
- the push button 67 also includes a pin 71 axially movable by relative to the first portion 69 and connected to the latter by a veil of material 72, like the second portion 36 of pump 1.
- the insert 68 comprises a central duct 74 whose lower end 75 enters the space defined between the legs 64.
- the pin 71 is engaged in the upper part of the conduit 74 and has a annular bead 76 sealingly applied in the rest position, as illustrated in FIG. 4, against an annular region 74a of the wall of the conduit 74, so to interrupt the communication between the product outlet passage 77 and the pumping.
- the central duct 74 comprises under the region 74a a widening of section 78 arranged in such a way that, when the pin 71 is pressed in a certain stroke in the conduit 74, the annular bead 76 ceases to apply on the region 74a in order to allow product to exit through passage 77.
- the opening 88 is located on the side opposite to the dispensing orifice 70, it prevents the pumping chamber from emptying in the case using the pump substantially horizontally with the dispensing orifice 70 directed down.
- insert 68 has only two annular lips 80 and 81, respectively analogous to the annular lips 40 and 41. In other words, the insert 68 does not have a third annular lip.
- the upper wall 82 of the pump body 65 has two annular regions 83 and 84, symmetrical of revolution, between which at least one channel 85 is produced extending along the X axis.
- the second annular lip 81 can be applied sealingly on these regions 84 and 83 when the mobile assembly 62 respectively occupies its positions of rest and limit switch, as seen in Figures 5 and 6, and channel 85 can allow air to be taken up when the mobile assembly 62 occupies an intermediate position, as illustrated in figure 7.
- pump 60 is also precompressed.
- the mobile assembly 62 begins by moving relative to the fixed part 61 without the displacement of the pin 71 relative to the first portion 69 is sufficient so that the annular bead 76 ceases to apply sealingly to the region 74a of conduit 74.
- the passage 77 for the outlet of the product thus remains isolated from the pumping by the bead 76 at least until the first lip 84 comes to bear tightly on the pump body 65, as illustrated in FIG. 5.
- the second annular lip 81 ceases to apply to the body of pump 65, so as to allow possible air intake via channel 85.
- the second annular lip 81 comes apply tightly to region 83, as illustrated in FIG. 6, in order to prevent communication between the inside of the container and the outside.
- the veil of material 72 tends to return to its initial configuration under the action of the spring 49 'and the pin 71 moves upward relative to the first portion 69 of the push button 67, by so that the annular bead 76 is again applied to the region 74a of the conduit 74.
- the passage 77 for the product outlet is then closed.
- Air can be taken in through opening 88 when the second lip 81 is in an intermediate position between regions 83 and 84, as illustrated in Figure 7.
- the pumping chamber can be fill through opening 88.
- FIG. 8 shows a pump 90 comprising a movable assembly 91 which can move relative to a fixed part 92.
- the mobile assembly 91 comprises a push button 93 in which is fixed a insert 94. This has two annular lips 119 and 122 similar respectively lips 80 and 81 previously described.
- the push button 93 is entirely fixed relative to the insert 94.
- the insert 94 has a recess 95 extending substantially along the axis X and defining with a central tubular part 96 of the push button 93 a part of the passage 97 for product release.
- the insert 94 has at its lower part a symmetrical cylindrical skirt 99 of revolution around the X axis and capable of engaging on a central pin 100 of the body of pump 101.
- the skirt 99 has internally, at its lower end, a bead annular 102 and at its upper end an opening 115 defined by a portion frustoconical 116 diverging downwards.
- the skirt 99 houses a shutter 105 before the first use of the pump disposed above the annular bead 102 and comprising, at its upper part, a head 120 which may be initially secured to the skirt 99, this head 120 having a surface frustoconical annular 120a.
- the skirt 99 and the shutter 105 can for example be made in one holding by molding and the shutter 105 be connected to the skirt 99 by a veil of material frangible allowing, after its rupture, to make the shutter 105 movable relative to the skirt 99.
- the shutter 105 can also be constituted by an element produced separately and put in place in the skirt 99 after the manufacture of the latter.
- the shutter 105 has a conical recess 106 below capable of engage the upper end 107 of conical shape of the pin 100, when the mobile assembly 91 has moved a certain driving stroke.
- the pin 100 comprises, at the base of the conical part 107, a bead annular 108 which applies, when the mobile assembly 91 is in its rest position, on the annular bead 102 of the skirt 99, so as to prevent the product from entering inside the skirt 99.
- the pin 100 is connected to the rest of the pump body 101 by bridges of material 110, being for example produced by molding of material in one piece with the rest of the pump body.
- the user pushes the assembly mobile 91 and, after a certain travel of the latter relative to the fixed part 92, the shutter 105 abuts against the conical part 107 of the pin 100. While the user continues to exert a force on the mobile assembly 91, the shutter 105 crosses the frustoconical part 116 of the skirt 99 to take the position shown in dotted in FIG. 8, in which the shutter 105 forms with the opening 105 a valve.
- the pumping chamber is isolated from the outside by tight contact of the second lip 122 on the pump body 101 and also by tight contact of the directory bead 108 of the pin 100 on the annular bead 102 of the skirt 99.
- the user presses down on the mobile assembly 91.
- Pump 90 can also be precompressed, like pumps 1 and 60, when the height of the annular bead 102 is chosen so that the beads 102 and 108 are applied against each other during a certain stroke of the mobile assembly 91 relative to the fixed part 92, at least until the annular lip 119 comes apply to the pump body 101, under the opening 88.
- the annular beads 102 and 108 cease to apply against each other, allowing the product contained in the pumping chamber to flow in the skirt 99 towards the outlet passage 97, the pressure of the product being able to lift the shutter 105 so that the surface 120a of the head 120 ceases to apply to the edge of opening 115.
- the first and second annular lips 119 and 122 cooperate with the pump body 101, analogously to what has been described for the annular lips 80 and 81.
- the head 120 of the shutter 105 then comes to rest on the edge of the opening 115 of the skirt 99 in order to isolate the pumping chamber from the outside and allow a suction of the product in the pumping chamber under the effect of the vacuum which is created therein, the first lip 119 being in abutment against the pump body 101, under opening 88.
- the ball 21 can be replaced by any other suitable valve, in particular by an elastomer valve, attached or molded onto the pump body.
