Definitions

  • the present invention refers to a modular element for flood prevention barriers.
  • the present invention refers to a modular element for flood prevention barriers being quickly and easily installed.
  • the present means available to protect lands against floods are not so many and they are difficult and long to install and, moreover, they require great efforts.
  • the known means to protect lands against floods are mainly constituted by earth or stone cofferdams, by sandbags, or by inflatable means have many drawbacks, they are too weak, they do not have the required solidity to face up to the violence of waters and they are too long and require too much effort for the technicians and/or the volunteers to be prepared and installed.
  • the earth or stone cofferdams can be successfully adopted for land reclamations, but they cannot be certainly used for actions aimed at facing unforeseen floods; in the same way as the protections with inflatable means can be used only in case of moderate floods when the floodwater pressure is relatively low.
  • Object of the present invention is to remove the above-mentioned drawbacks.
  • the present invention allows obtaining this and other purposes resulting from the following description when modular elements to build flood prevention barriers being substantially made of containers that can be filled up with water or other fluid, that are fixed in length and overlapped are used.
  • Document US 5.511.902-A also discloses a modular element according to the preamble of independent claim 1. This modular element can be filled with fluid and is designed to be stacked.
  • the containers according to the present invention are preferably made of light and inexpensive materials such as polyethylene or other plastic materials in general.
  • object of the present invention is a modular element for flood prevention barriers according to claim 1 and comprising a container that can be filled up with water or other fluid, provided with at least one upper filler with seal plug and with at least a lower side exhaust stack with seal plug, wherein two opposite horizontal ends, respectively comprise equal and complementary hemispherical projection and recess that can be jointly and sealingly coupled with equal recesses and projections of other identical modular elements; said container having its upper side and lower side comprised between said ends and respectively provided with complementary grooves and profiles that can be jointly and sealingly coupled with equal profiles and grooves of other identical modular elements.
  • the barriers under way can be reinforced and/or erected with correspondent jointly linked barriers placed side by side and/or overlapped in order to support pressure increases of the flowing waters according to the needs; in addition to the quick installation without infrastructures, the reduced unit weight and their modular structures allow an easy movement also during removals, transfers to other locations, rebuilding of other barriers and piling up in warehouses.
  • the modular element for flood prevention barriers of the present invention comprises a container 1 which, in its opposite side ends, is respectively provided with sealing complementary and equal tongue hemispherical projection 2 and a groove hemispherical recess 3 that can be coupled with identical recesses 3 and projections 2 of other identical modular elements.
  • the upper surface 4 and the lower surface 5 comprised between said ends 2 and 3 are equipped with complementary grooves 6 and profiles 7 that can be sealingly coupled with equal profiles 7 and grooves 6 provided with other identical modular elements on their upper surface 4 and lower surface 5.
  • Grooves 6 and/or profiles 7 can be chamfered to allow the positioning of the seals also with misaligned elements.
  • the lower part of the same hemispherical ends 2 and 3 is provided with chamfers 20, 20' that form a continuous longitudinal recess 17 if they are tangentially aligned with the correspondent lower side 5 and internal edges of the profiles 7.
  • the modular containers 1 of the present invention form an internal chamber 11 provided at least with one upper filler equipped with sealing plug 8 and of at least one side lower exhaust stack equipped with seal plug 9.
  • the side exhaust stacks can be two.
  • Said containers 1 can be made of any material, preferably light and resistant inexpensive materials such as polyethylene or other plastic material in general. This condition allows an easy movement for storage, installation of barriers 10 and/or their removal.
  • the barriers 10 are built by placing the modular containers 1 in the interested areas without any foundation works progressively coupling the modular containers by reciprocally fixing their hemispherical projections/recesses 2/3 and their grooves/profiles 6/7 until lateral and/or overlapped sequential rows are obtained.
  • In the internal chamber 11 of the modular containers 1 is then preferably and more rapidly introduced water or other fluid through said upper fillers with seal plug 8.
  • the filling can be carried out by means of immersion pumps taking the water directly from the one to be controlled, tank trucks, hydrants or taps of the usual distribution networks.
  • hemispherical projections/recesses 2/3, grooves/profiles 6/7 By the sequential and joint coupling of said hemispherical projections/recesses 2/3, grooves/profiles 6/7, a plurality of modular containers, barriers 10 to build artificial banks for protection, land reclamation, closing of leakages and the like can be obtained.
  • Said hemispherical projections 2 and recesses 3 can be chamfered in order to be perfectly fixed even in case of partial misalignment of the modular elements due to the unevenness of the ground they are placed upon and assure the required sealing of the barriers.
  • the protection barriers can be reinforced by laterally approaching and/or jointly overlapping in an aligned way or in a pyramidal way other rows of modular containers on the dry side.
  • the weight of the filled-up upper modular containers strengthens the base making it more effective against the lateral force of the waters to be controlled.
  • the barriers can be removed after having exhausted the content of all modular containers through the relevant lower side exhaust stacks with seal plug 9.
  • the emptied modular containers 1 can be easily and quickly removed without effort and they can be stacked, stored and kept for future interventions.
  • modular containers 1, filled up and stacked can be fastened between them by means of belts 12 with ratchet 13.
  • the rear ends 14 of said belts can be embedded into modular containers 1 during their moulding in correspondence with side half grooves 15; as an alternative, the belts can be whole and ring-fastened into slots 16 obtained into the same grooves.
  • the function of grooves 15 is to contain the tensioned belts until they are as much as possible close to the modular containers 1 without laterally projecting from them in order to laterally approach other containers if necessary.
  • the same slots 16 can be used to apply ropes, binders and/or clamps that can carry out the same function as said belts.
  • a continuous sheath 18 made of elastic material such as natural or synthetic rubber, plastic material or the like is preferably applied for a better sealing and adhesion of the same barriers on any kind of ground, both a smooth ground and a coarse ground with bulges, a straight one or an undulating one, made of stones, leaf mould, tar and so on.
  • the same type of sheath 18 can be also placed in the lower longitudinal recesses 17' that form between the profiles 7 of the rows of the elements that are laterally approached.
  • an extra sheath can be also placed between the stacked modular containers, the recesses 17 and/or 17', if a special sealing of the artificial banks built according to the present invention is required.
