Definitions
- the invention relates to an exhaust system for the internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, having a pipe string with at least one Silencer.
- exhaust systems have a rear silencer, which is located in the The rear of the vehicle is located under the vehicle floor, often below of the trunk. Mufflers are usually quite voluminous. If now a flexible way of attaching the exhaust system to the motor vehicle, in particular also in the area of the rear silencer must, especially with the rear silencer up and to the sides sufficient distance to the floor of the motor vehicle to be present the movements of the muffler due to the flexible attachment and to allow for thermal expansion without the rear silencer strikes the vehicle floor. This space is enough for that Usable space of the motor vehicle, e.g. the trunk, lost.
- the invention is based on the technical problem, so the exhaust system form that the exhaust system in some areas, preferably in the area of the rear silencer, attached to the motor vehicle at a short distance can be taken and still the thermal expansion of the exhaust system can be.
- the exhaust system can be operated in one area, preferably in the rear area, relatively unyielding to the motor vehicle Fasten.
- the between the front end of the exhaust system and this Thermal expansion can occur due to the sliding Telescopic seat can be included.
- the space to the motor vehicle can be small be held so that space is gained for other functions.
- the exhaust system according to the invention is very particularly for passenger cars intended. Particularly suitable places for positioning the telescope seat are those on which the exhaust system is essentially in the longitudinal direction of the motor vehicle or the exhaust system.
- Particularly easiest can be realized if the telescopic seat between a tubular, first area of the exhaust system or a first pipe string area and a tubular second area of the exhaust system or a second Pipe string area is provided, very conveniently a place where anyway a pipe string connection (welded connection or screw connection) was provided.
- the telescopic seat can e.g. at the transition between a silencer or a catalyst body housing and provide the actual pipe string. In itself you can see the telescopic seat provide anywhere along the length of the exhaust system. Especially however, the range around the middle of the length is favorable the exhaust system, e.g. between a catalyst body housing and a Middle silencer, or an area further back in the exhaust system, e.g. on Piece in front of the rear silencer.
- the telescopic seat is preferably through a smaller end region of a first one Pipe section and a larger end area with play one second tubing section formed, the annular space between the first and the second pipe string section allowing displacements Way is sealed.
- the end area of the pipe string sections can but do not have to have a circular cross-section; more elliptical or more oval cross sections are possible.
- As an alternative to training with radial Play between the two end areas can also be provided with a telescopic seat, in which the two end areas are inserted into one another with practically no play are.
- the telescopic seat preferably has a plurality of rings, at least one Ring support function and at least one other ring mainly sealing function Has. In this case you have to manufacture the outer component and the inner part of the telescope seat no longer with extreme work within tight tolerances.
- the rings compensate for tolerances.
- the telescope seat can be safely moved over a wide temperature range.
- the at least one ring that has a supporting function usually has an additional one at least a certain sealing function.
- the two outer rings Have a supporting function and the middle ring mainly has a sealing function.
- the ring which mainly has a sealing function, preferably has an over its length increasing diameter. You can see this increase in diameter make only on the outside diameter, but is particularly cheap Diameter increase both on the outside diameter and on the inside diameter. A good way is to increase the diameter conical. Sealing function rings that correspond to the in Measures addressed in this paragraph have a special reliable sealing function, also in view of the manufacturing tolerances of the outer part and inner part of the telescope seat and also given different thermal expansions.
- the description above of the ring, which mainly has a sealing function refers to the state before assembling the telescope seat. After assembling the telescope seat this ring is usually somewhat deformed; in all As a rule, however, the diameter increase is still present.
- At least one of the rings is a knitted metal ring, especially all rings are preferably metal knitted rings.
- Metal knitted rings are in more varied Design available on the market. Metal knitted rings stand out characterized in that they easily withstand the temperatures occurring in exhaust systems have grown. Suitable for rings that mainly have a sealing function especially those designs that differ from the wire cross-section forth and / or from the knitted version and / or from the type of pressing of the wire mesh are particularly designed for gas tightness.
- the at least one metal knitted ring is preferably a pressed metal knitted ring, All metal knitted rings are particularly preferred pressed metal knitted rings.
- the telescope seat preferably has two axially on the inside or outside spaced, surrounding beads, between which at least one ring is fixed axially.
- the at least one ring is on the outer or inner part of the telescopic seat against movement set in the axial direction.
- Metal knitted rings for the exhaust system according to the invention are available on the market.
- the exhaust system 2 shown in FIG. 1 consists - from upstream to progressing downstream - essentially from a manifold 4, a tubing section 6, a catalyst body housing 8 therein arranged catalyst body, a tubing section 10, a central silencer 12, a bent pipe section section 14 and a rear silencer 16.
- the manifold 4 is when installing the exhaust system 2 screwed to the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine; he merges the exhaust gas flows from four cylinders into a common pipe.
- the catalyst body in the housing 8 is e.g. a ceramic honeycomb body, whose channel walls are coated with a layer that consists essentially of a catalyst support material and the actual catalyst material.
- the tubing section 14 leads around the rear axle of the vehicle around.
- the rear silencer 16 is in the installed state Exhaust system 2 off-center under the trunk floor.
- the telescopic seat 20 shown in detail in FIG. 2 essentially consists of a smaller-diameter end region 22 of a first pipe section 10a, an end region 26 of a larger diameter with clearance 24 second tubing section 10b, and three axially successive rings 28, 30, 32 in the annular space between the two end regions 22 and 26.
- the group of three rings 28, 30, 32 is inside between two surrounding sikken 34, which are bent outward from the end region 22, axially established. If the end portion 22 and the end portion 26 in the axial direction move relative to each other, the rings 28, 30, 32 slide in the end region 26 along.
- the telescopic seat 20 can also be made "upside down", i. H. diameter greater End area at the pipe string section 10a and smaller diameter End region at the pipe string section 10b.
- the circumferential beads 34 from the end region 26 inwards bend out so that the rings 28, 30, 32 are axially fixed in the end region 26 are.
- All three rings 28, 30, 32 are pressed metal knitted rings.
- the two outer ones Rings 28 and 32 are rings with a support function (although they also have a certain function Sealing effect against gas flow through the annulus between have the end regions 22 and 26). Rings 28 and 30 hold the end portions 22 and 26 in their telescopic seat relation, but are not so high radial preload, that axial sliding movements of the telescope seat would be excessively disabled.
- the middle ring 30 is a ring that predominantly Has a sealing function.
- the ring 30 has an outer diameter which in FIG increases conically from left to right over the axial length of the ring 30. The The same applies to the inner diameter of the ring 30.
- the middle ring 30 Due to the described geometric shape and the described prestressing, but preferably also supported by cheap wire selection of the wire mesh and / or by cheap choice of the type of wire mesh and / or by a favorable choice of the type of compression of the wire mesh, the middle ring 30 has the predominant sealing function.
- the rear silencer 16 can be made with relatively little compliance (e.g. rubber buffers instead of rubber rings) are attached to the motor vehicle and makes therefore only slight relative movements with respect to the vehicle floor. Over the entire length of the exhaust system 2, thermal expansions that occur when heated are picked up by the telescopic seat 20.
- relatively little compliance e.g. rubber buffers instead of rubber rings
- the catalyst body housing can be omitted.
- the application of the Invention in exhaust systems with a particle filter is possible.
- With the in interrupted Line drawn circle Kal is another preferred installation point for the telescopic seat 20 drawn.
