- the blankets of the state of the art for example as described in document EP 0 742 760 are clamped at both ends in a bar which bears on the free faces of the two outer layers. It is known that the mechanical strength of the bars is of paramount importance in printing machines. In fact, the loss of the bar by possible dislodging of the latter can have very serious consequences, with possible breakage of the printing cylinders and the loss of production for one user.
- the object of the present invention is to propose a method for attaching a bar to a blanket which makes it possible to increase the mechanical strength of the bars and to eliminate the risk mentioned above.
- the method according to the invention is characterized in that the end of the blanket is stripped to which a strip must be fixed, until the main or single reinforcement of the blanket is released and fixed the bar on said reinforcement.

- Figures 4 to 6 show three essential steps of the method of mounting the bar 2 on the end 3 of the blanket 1. This method consists in delaminating in a first step shown in Figure 4 a part of the thickness of the blanket on a width suitable for uncovering the threads which ensure the resistance to elongation of the blanket, that is to say in general of the aramid beam 8.
- FIG. 5 shows the bar in its position before the actual bonding. Then by exerting a force in the direction of arrow F, the branch 11 of the bar is forced towards the outside face up to the position shown in FIG. 1. After hardening of the adhesive, a high resistance of the bar is obtained. tearing, necessary for mounting the blanket on an offset printing cylinder.
- the blanket can be stripped over a distance, for example from 1 to 20 mm, and the blanket can be gripped by strips of length, width or depth between 5 and 30 mm.
- the blanket can be stripped on both sides simultaneously, until the wires which release the resistance to elongation of the blanket are released.

- the aforementioned single reinforcement may consist of an aramid beam, of a beam produced with other high modulus and high strength fibers, of a fabric of different weaves known per se or of a grid or plastic film.
- the invention also applies to a blanket more conventional in its design and comprising, if necessary, more than one reinforcement in its carcass.
