Durch die Gestaltung der hohlträgerartigen Tragleisten im oberen Teil des Kurbelgehäuses wird die Stabilität der Kurbelgehäusestruktur wesentlich erhöht, so dass die vom Zylinderblock ausgehenden Kräfte vom Kurbelgehäuse problemlos aufgenommen und weitergeleitet werden können. Dabei ist der Verstellmechanismus so angeordnet, dass die Verbindungsgerade der Lageraugen oder -arme des Zylinderblocks etwa senkrecht zur Zylinderachse steht, wodurch ein Getriebeparallelogramm zur Verlagerung des Zylinderblocks gegenüber dem feststehenden Kurbelgehäuse entsteht.
