Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of treatment of mail and it relates more particularly to a selection device mail items used in a supply module automatic franking machine.
  • a franking machine must be adapted to receive different types of mail items such as documents, folds or envelopes with greater or lesser thicknesses.
  • a supply module upstream automatic, also called feeder allowing in particular the conveying these mail items at different speeds and comprising usually means for reception / stacking, selection, transport and possibly the closure of these mail items.
  • US Patents 4,909,499, US 4,978,114 and US 5,431,385 show such automatic feeders comprising a selection module suitable for the passage of mail items of different thicknesses.
  • the selection modules for these feeders maintain pressure on the mail items while ensuring the selection of one of them. Indeed, these two pressure and selection functions are performed by a system single of belts inclined downstream in the forward direction of the mail items.
  • the object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks above by proposing a selection device, integrated into a module supply of mail items intended to be placed upstream of a franking machine, and comprising selection means which are independent of the action exercised by the stack of mail items, that this one either low or high due to the processing of a variable number large envelopes for example.
  • a selection device to separate a to one of the items in a stack of mail items with a surface support and means of transport to train these mail items above the support surface, characterized in that it further comprises a mobile pressure plate cooperating with the means of transport for drag some of the mail items from the stack downstream mail items to be separated and corresponding to a maximum thickness predetermined mail items and independent means of selection mobile individually to select a mail item among the mail items driven by the means of transport.
  • the pressure plate can pivot around an articulation axis of a articulated mechanism which can itself pivot around an axis of tilting, so as to remain constantly parallel to said surface medium regardless of the number of mail items transported.
  • the pivoting of said pressure plate around said articulation axis is exerted against a first elastic means, one end of which is fixed to said pressure plate and the other end is fixed to said mechanism Speak clearly.
  • the pivoting of said mechanism articulated around said axis of tilting is exerted against a second elastic means, one of which one end is fixed to said articulated mechanism and the other end is fixed to a fixed or built part of the device.
  • said pressure plate comprises a stop for limitation of its pivoting with the articulated mechanism.
  • the means of transport include parallel drive belts controlled by a motor means common and extending across said support surface.
  • the selection means include interleaved tabs between the drive belts and acting against means elastic bands one end of which is fixed to said tongue and the other end end is fixed to the fixed or built part of the device.
  • a tongue of additional selection is advantageously arranged outside the drive belts to allow separation of items from large format mail.
  • the selection device further comprises in addition downstream of said means for selecting articulated delivery means to drive upstream all mail items except one issued said selection means.
  • An automatic mail item feeding module conventionally comprises a feeding zone formed essentially a tray for receiving a stack of mail items and having first transport rollers for driving these articles of mail downstream (and against a referencing wall) at level of a separation zone including a selection device in which these articles are extracted one by one from the stack. Seconds transport rollers are generally provided at the exit from this zone of separation to convey the mail items thus extracted to a wetting and closing module (when present) for these items of mail.
  • Such an automatic feeder further comprises different known means of command and control necessary for its operation (in particular with the actuation of the various rollers for training of mail items) and it is therefore unnecessary to describe more in detail.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a selection device according to the invention. This comprises, downstream of a separation plate 10 intended to limit to a maximum value, for example 20 mm, the thickness of the stack of mail items inserted into the device above a support surface 12, a means of transport downstream of the articles of mail consisting of a set of drive belts 14, 16, 18 intended to cooperate with a pressure plate 20 mounted on a mechanism articulated 22 and intended to ensure proper pressure on the pile of mail items before the selection of one and only one of them by individual selection means formed by selection tabs independent 24, 26, 28 interposed between the drive belts.
  • the independence of the selection tabs makes it possible to take into account differences in thickness within the same mail item and to standardize wear.
  • the pressure plate can pivot about an articulation axis 30A, 30B of the articulated mechanism which can itself pivot around a tilt axis 32, so that the pressure plate can remain constantly parallel to the surface support 12 regardless of the number of mail items transported (in the limit of course for the maximum admissible thickness).
  • the pivoting of the pressure plate around the articulation axis is exerted against a first elastic means 34, one end 34A of which is fixed to the pressure plate and the other end 34B is fixed on the mechanism Speak clearly.
  • This first elastic means makes it possible to adapt the effort of compression of the pressure plate according to the height of articles present under this tray.
  • the pivoting of the mechanism articulated around the tilting axis is exerted against a second elastic means 38, 40 with one end 38A, 40A attached to the articulated mechanism (more precisely at a duckbill end of this mechanism) and the other end 38B, 40B is fixed to a fixed part, or frame 36, of the device.
  • This second elastic means of greater rigidity than the first elastic means (which must not prevent the opening of the tray passing mail items) generates a localized effort on the rear part of the pressure plate. It reinforces the applied load on mail items by the first elastic means.
  • the axes of articulation and tilting are of course each fixed between two longitudinal walls (not shown) of the frame on either side of the transport route for mail items.
  • the pressure plate has further a stop 20A, 20B for limiting its pivoting with the articulated mechanism to prevent free opening of the pressure plate and facilitate the fixing of the spring 34 (in addition, it does not fall when it is performed a maintenance operation on the device).
  • the three parallel drive belts 14, 16, 18 of the means transport are controlled by a common motor means 42 to across a set of gables and extend across the surface support 12.
  • the selection tabs two of which are inserted between the three drive belts, act against elastic means 44, 46, one end 44A, 46A of which is fixed to the tongue and the other end 44B, 46B is fixed to the fixed part, or frame 36, of the device.
  • the selection means can also include a third selection tab arranged at the outside of the drive belts to facilitate the separation of large format mail items, such as A4.
  • This tongue like the previous ones, is movable individually to against an elastic means, one end of which is fixed to the tongue and the other end is fixed to the frame.
  • the number of selection tabs and belts of training (which could advantageously be replaced by transport rollers) can be variable. It depends in particular on the format mail items processed by the feeder. So, for a feeder dealing only with envelopes in standard European format, it can be considered the use of only two drive belts and one selection tab inserted between these two belts, unlike the illustrated example where there are provided three drive belts and two selection tabs interposed.
  • the selection device further comprises downstream means for selection of delivery means to drive upstream every mail items except one from the means of selection. Indeed, it can happen, however exceptionally, that the selection tabs select two and not a single mail item.
  • these delivery means preferably made up of as many rollers conveying 50, 52 that there are selection tabs then allow to drive in the opposite direction the second article of mail found at above and let pass only the first one below and directly in contact with the drive belts 14, 16, 18.
  • the conveyor rollers are mounted on a common shaft 56 driven in rotation, through a return belt 60 and pinions drive, by a motor shaft 62 itself driven in rotation by drive means 58. This drive shaft constitutes additionally a pivot axis around which the conveyor rollers are articulated to allow the insertion and training of an article of thick mail (16 mm maximum for a plate of initial separation of 20mm).
  • the operation of the separation device is presented as follows. Mail items stacked on the area receiving tray feed are driven by the transport rollers of this area towards the selection device which will take care of extracting them one by one for direct them to a next module of the feeder and then to the machine postage proper. At the level of the selection device, the stack dealing with mail items from the receiving tray is first of all limited in height by the separation plate 10 then the articles of introduced mail are pressed against the drive belts 14, 16, 18 by the pressure plate 20 which will pass from an inclined position to a horizontal position under the action of the articulated mechanism 22.
  • the role of the stack weight is reduced of mail articles on the selection function of these articles and therefore also on the output of the feeder.
  • the pressure plate takes up the loss of force in the reception and allows a better training of this article.
