Abstract

This invention consists of "orienting" the activity (or activities) of textiles, in particular their antimicrobial activity, as well as antistatic, antifungal, and similar useful functions, the "orientation" of the activity (or effect or functions, these terms being used here as being equivalent) of a textile, and especially of the antibacterial activity, of one side of the textile being carried out in relation to the other side. So-called two-sided fabrics are obtained one of the sides of which is characterized by biological activity (antibacterial, antimicrobial, anticarian insecticide, fungicidal, or generally antiparasitic), cosmetic, pharmaceutical, antistatic, antibacterial in controlled amounts, while the other side may be characterized by zero activity. In the preferred embodiment the technique known as satin weaving or serge weaving is applied in order to orient the fabric as claimed for the invention.

Description

Secteur technique de l'invention :Technical sector of the invention:

The present invention relates to the technical field of textiles, especially fabrics, having a special action or function, including an antimicrobial and antibacterial action (or function).

As part of the ongoing fight against nosocomial infections in hospitals, hygiene in industry, hospitality, transport or in the consumer sector, textiles are considered to be important potential reservoirs of bacteria and through vectors such as the manuportage, the transmission of germs.

In order to fight against the bacteria present on the textile, there are today a certain number of techniques:
  • finishing or finishing, covering the entire structure of the textile or focusing more particularly on certain types of fibers constituting the textile. The cost of this treatment is relatively low.
  • The use of yarns, fibers or filaments of any kind, into which diffusing antibacterial agents have been incorporated.
These can be mixed with other materials and then transformed into yarn and fabric or fabric of any kind.
The antibacterial mode of operation of these two technologies is to treat the entire structure of the textile and make it antibacterial diffusion effect of the active ingredients on the non-antibacterial components.

Nous citons à titre d'information générale sur ce type de sujet l'article « Les textiles antimicrobiens », « Pour la Science » N° 266, décembre 1999.We cite as general information on this type of subject the article " Antimicrobial Textiles", "For Science" No. 266, December 1999.

In existing techniques, the tissues become active by treatment either by:
  • impregnation (it is a scarf, that is to say one quenches a fabric in a primer)
  • inclusion (the element is included in the polymer before spinning and weaving)
Whatever the technique, the activity of the tissue is the same on both sides, that is to say, it is not differentiated.

By the method of treatment, the following undesirable effects and / or problems result:
  • Antibacterial characteristics on the entire mass and on all sides of the textile.
  • Diffusion of antibacterial agents into the environment by disgorging (ex: skin surface).
  • Dispersion during washing, by perspiration.
  • Probable depletion of antibacterial agents in the more or less long term.
  • Possibility of favoring bacterial strains that are resistant to the agent or because of contact with lower and lower doses by disgorging to create mutagenicity of the bacteria (this is already the case, as underlined in the aforementioned article) .

It appears a serious problem for:
  • people in regular contact with these products: patients, caregivers, operators in the area to be treated.
  • People at risk of overdose (or creation of bacterial resistance due to repeated exposure).
(Except for fabrics coated on 1 side because 1 face can be deactivated by masking the fabric, by coating or against-bonding or a two-component fabric = complexing of 2 tissues one on the other, but the coated fabrics do not absolutely part of the object of the present invention).

It also appears the need not to destroy non-pathogenic flora so not to treat areas not affected by the infection.

Résumé de l'invention :Summary of the invention

In its most general aspect, the present invention consists in "orienting" the activity (or the activities) of the textiles, and in particular their antibacterial, but also antimicrobial, anti-fungal activity useful in the aforementioned fields, or which would become .

The "orientation" of the activity (or action, or function, these terms being here equivalent, as will be understood by those skilled in the art) of the textile, and in particular of the antibacterial activity, is carried out according to the invention of one side of the textile with respect to the other.

This results in so-called two-sided fabrics, one side of which will be antibacterial (or antimicrobial, anti-fungal,) at controlled dosage and the other side may be antibacterial activity (or antimicrobial, anti-fungal) .

The whole will be designated throughout the present application, including the claims, by "activity" or "function" or sometimes by simplification "anti-bacterial activity" or "antimicrobial activity" or "antifungal activity" but, in any case and unless specifically stated otherwise, such a term will cover all of the activities described above as well as those which will appear directly to the skilled person.

Pour réaliser l'orientation du tissu selon l'invention, on utilise dans le mode de réalisation préféré la technique dite du tissage SATIN ou du tissage SERGÉ.To achieve the orientation of the fabric according to the invention is used in the preferred embodiment the so-called SATIN weaving technique or SERGEY weaving.

The following known techniques can also be used:
  • Knitting: by 1 double-sided / (for example: jersey including jersey)
  • Satin jacquard weave.
and any technique for differentiating a weft yarn from a warp yarn, or vice versa, as will be described below. These techniques are well known to those skilled in the art.

The invention therefore relates to textiles having an antibacterial, antimicrobial, fungicidal function or action, characterized in that said function is oriented along one side of the textile, with respect to the other side.

By "oriented" is meant here that one of the faces has said function and the other face is not, or that one of the faces has said function to a certain degree, for example normal or strong, and the other face to another degree, for example very low or zero, or that both sides have one or more functions, one of these faces combining several functions.

It should be noted a well-known cost override problem associated with SATIN and SERGE type weaving, which is slower than conventional warp and weft weaves, which may have dissuaded the skilled person from considering using this route.

In addition, there are several types of SATIN and SERGÉ weavings; and it was therefore not obvious either to choose the type of weaving, that is to say the selection of "active" weft threads, nor to evaluate the chances of success.

Description détaillée de l'invention :Detailed description of the invention

Attached FIG. 1, which consists of FIGS. 1A and 1B, is the comparative description of a normal weaving with respect to a weaving. satin or twill.

In a normal weaving process, FIG. 1A, each wire (of chain CH and respectively of frame TR) is alternately in front of and behind the plane of FIG.

In a satin or twill type weaving process, FIG. 1B, the CH chain material is offset on one side (in the figure, "in front") and the weft material TR is offset on the other side (on the figure, "behind"), or vice versa.

So we get a front or top and a back or bottom.

The present invention consists, in its general aspect, to design a textile characterized in that the two faces do not have the same function and / or not the same degree of a certain function, to solve the problems mentioned above.

In a particular aspect, the invention consists of a textile whose two faces do not have the same function and / or not the same degree of a certain function.

In another particular aspect, the invention consists of a textile whose two faces do not have the same function and / or not the same degree of a certain function, and which has been obtained by a "satin" type manufacturing process. ".

According to the invention, the textile is characterized in that it consists of weft yarns and warp yarns not having the same function, and / or not the same degree of a certain function, woven, for example, according to the so-called "satin weaving" process.

Selon encore un mode de réalisation de l'invention, le fil de chaîne est inactif et le fil de trame présente une activité antibactérienne, antimicrobienne, fongicide .According to another embodiment of the invention, the warp yarn is inactive and the weft yarn has antibacterial, antimicrobial, fungicidal activity.

Selon encore un mode de réalisation de l'invention, le fil de trame est inactif et le fil de chaîne présente une activité antibactérienne, antimicrobienne, fongicide .According to another embodiment of the invention, the weft yarn is inactive and the warp yarn has antibacterial, antimicrobial activity, fungicide.

According to another embodiment of the invention, the warp yarn has an activity A1 and the weft yarn has a second activity A2.

According to one variant of the invention, the warp thread has an activity A1 to a certain degree D1 and the weft thread has the same activity A1 at a degree D2.

Alternatively, D1 is a normal degree of activity and D2 is a very low degree.

According to another variant, A1 is an antibacterial or antifungal activity.

The following activities and combinations of activities are particularly preferred, but not limited to:
  • antifungal, antibacterial, antimicrobial activities

As already indicated, it will be noted that, according to the invention, the action on the 2 faces can be either: 1 identical, but to different degrees, 2 complementary, 3 different (ie 2 active faces, each with a different activity or the same activity but to different degrees), 1 active and 1 non-active).

This technology is original because the fabric is oriented, that is to say it is very active on one side (easy to identify because, as the SATIN provides for example, it shines) and little active on the other, for at least one specific activity. If we reverse the activity of the warp and weft threads, the matte side will be active.

It is therefore possible to position a tissue with an active face in contact with the patient, for example a sheet under the patient, if the infection is under the patient, and to position the top sheet with its inactive face facing the patient. .

The fabric comprises, according to one embodiment, two faces:
  • an active side oriented towards the place to be treated (wound, scar, focus, infection, or outside of the body from which the aggression comes).
  • inactive side oriented towards areas to preserve (not to submit to an action, for example antibacterial, superfluous).
with the possible nuances and possible combinations indicated above.

Applications de l'invention :Applications of the invention:

The activities and combinations of activities as mentioned above (for example devolved to the weft thread) are:
  • Hospital clothing and fabrics (for staff, patients, etc.) and others (draperies, clothing in risky environments, food and pharmaceutical industry, analysis laboratories, sterile chambers, including in industry, clean rooms, army, general public, sportswear, hunting (anti-odor action), odor producing industries, outdoor and outdoor sports clothing and articles, anti-fouling clothing (garage owners, construction workers, chemical industries) , cook), image clothing (hostesses, waiters, ...) and similar), bedding, upholstery (for houses, vehicles ...)
as well as any protective fabric that can cover in whole or in part a person, a tool or a material (for example surgical), a clothing accessory, shoes etc ... (eg anti-fouling protection, or hydrophobic, etc ....), to protect a sensitive material (electronics, weapons, etc ....)
(With the possibility of combining with a secondary activity, for example deodorant or perfuming, devolving for example on the warp)

EXEMPLES :EXAMPLES Construction exacte du tissu : Exact construction of the fabric :

Le fil de chaîne pourra être constitué 100% coton ou 100% polyester ou mélange polyester/coton, filaments ou fibres, ou d'autres matériaux (polyamide, acrylique, ...)..The warp may be made of 100% cotton or 100% polyester or polyester / cotton blend, filaments or fibers, or other materials (polyamide, acrylic, ...).

The choice of materials (fibers or filaments) containing the antibacterial or antimicrobial agents will be based on a criterion of non-diffusion of the active agents of the environment, therefore of antibacterial or antimicrobial action strictly in contact with the fibers.

The choice of textile construction techniques will be guided by the point above.

For this purpose, the so-called satin weaving technique, or twill weaving, is used in the preferred embodiment.
The choice of these techniques resulting from the possibility of bringing a maximum of fibers on one side compared to the other depending on the use that we want to make the textile (clothing, bags, protective covers, curtains, ...).

Technique en particulier : Technique in particular : Définition fil de trame :Definition of weft:

In order to be able to bring a maximum of antibacterial or antimicrobial agents on one of the faces, we decided to use antibacterial or antimicrobial agents in the weft thread, by making mixtures of active threads or filaments with fibers or filaments inactive evenly dosed, according to the desired efficacy criteria.

Choix de la technique SATIN : Choice of the SATIN technique :

We can use according to the criteria of resistance, comfort or dosage, a satin of 4 or 5 (especially for resistors). See Figure 1A - 1B and 1A 'and 1A ".
+ or - resistant

Other techniques used to make double-sided fabrics: laminating, coating, ... are more expensive or change the characteristics of the fabric (flexibility, washability, hold, comfort).

The weft yarn will be constructed according to the performance requirements related to the final product using the fabric. This may consist of yarns, fibers or filaments based on cotton, polyester, blends or other fibers or other pure or mixed materials.

The qualities of the textile may be related to the nature of the fibers or filaments constituting the yarn, but also result from an ennobling treatment that can be performed on a yarn consisting of materials, which by their nature do not have properties specific.

Ex: an antibacterial fiber included in a thread composed of a comfort fiber type Coolmax .

The weaving techniques will provide maximum antibacterial or antimicrobial efficacy on one of the chosen faces, so-called "active" face. The effectiveness on it may vary from weakly bacteriostatic or microbiostatic to very highly bactericidal or microbicidal, depending on the end use requested.

Regarding the other side, the weaving techniques will allow an activity varying in the same proportions, namely from zero to highly active.
The tissues will, therefore, be active on one side, or double activity.

Regarding the other side, the weaving techniques will for example a quasi or non-bacteriological or other activity. The activity of this other face will be weakly bacteriostatic (or other activity) to zero.

The weaving techniques used may be those used for the construction of fabrics usually used in their context of use.
These constructions may be of different kinds: weaving, knitting, nonwoven or any other technique for the superposition or construction of a double-sided textile material.

Plages d'utilisation :Usage ranges:

  • augmentation ou diminution du nombre de fils en chaîne ou trame, increase or decrease in the number of warp or weft threads,
(The satin weave 4 is preferably chosen to be the strongest, the satin weave 5 to be most effective, compared to the less preferred satin weaves 6 and 8).

A polymer having an active agent intimately mixed into the entire mass of the fiber or filament (and acting, in the case of anti-bacterials) by an effect of a weft and / or warp yarn is used. ion exchange or any similar technology.
Each wire being composed of several fibers or filaments.
All these fibers are deemed to be non-diffusing of their active agent by disgorging in their environment.
In addition, the effectiveness has been proven throughout the physical life of the product, washable at all temperatures, non-toxic.

Agents actifs :Active Agents:

These agents are known, each in their field of activity, by the skilled person.

On se réfèrera à l'article précité POUR LA SCIENCE, N° 266, Décembre 1999, page 134 ff, «Les textiles antimicrobiens» , F. Renaud et J. Freney.Reference will be made to the aforementioned article FOR SCIENCE, No. 266, December 1999, page 134 ff, "Antimicrobial Textiles", F. Renaud and J. Freney.

A large family of anti-bacterial or anti-fungal products used in the fibers consists of zeolites, well-known compounds which are alumino-silicates linked to silver and copper or silver and zinc ions, the latter ions having an antiseptic action by blocking thiol groups of proteins, mineral ceramics, animal, amides or any other agent known to have a non-diffusing action in its environment by disgorging.

Other agents can be found in the attached single table.

• Support scientifique "In vivo". • Photostable. • Activité rapide: 48 heures. (1 st generation) Principle : The antifungal molecule will break the food chain of the mite and starve it. The mite dies of hunger after 3 to 6 weeks. • Very low cost Molecule often photolabile (destroyed in the light) and water-soluble (dissolves in the water so disappears immediately with the washing). primers Deposit on a textile of a more or less complex mixture of active molecules (method: impregnation, padding). • Cheap • In situ activity very short term (low fixation). Use : The molecule is prepared in primer which is deposited on the textile by padding. • No known toxicity. Example: Sanitized ® (phenoxyhalogen derivatives + isothiazolinone). • Bad washing behavior. EG: Sanitized ® ® Actigard 1 st generation • Light antibacterial effect before washing or prolonged use. • Dry cleaning recommended • Release (the molecules unhook and diffuse). Pyrethrum extracts: non-permanent anti-mites. ( 2nd generation) Principle : Pyrethrum extracts are naturally (chrysanthemum, geranium) anti-mite and anti-insect (at higher dose). They kill the mites. • Improved durability (compared to 1 °), • Instability to light (photolable). Inclusions with diffusion Integration into a polymer of an active molecule but which may have a release (even limited diffusion), • Use of an excellent non-toxic and active molecule (Triclosan). • Diffusing product (release to be controlled) = pejorative aspect (not eligible for the XPG 99-010 standard). Examples: Utllisation : Deposited in primer. • Low cost. • Slow effect (after 3 weeks during which the mite can migrate to find food elsewhere). • Rhovyl AS ® (active principle: Triclosan integrated in chlorofibre), • Washable at 60 ° • High cost related to marketing support. Ex: Microstop® Actigard® Sinacaria® (the latter is combined with Teflon®), • No intrinsic allergenic effect (is not allergenic by itself). • Washability (relatively low 5 washes at 40 ° max). • Hollofil Allerban ® (active principle: Triclosan embedded in acrylic, all mixed with 9 volumes of polyester). • Development possibilities (fiber lining, yarn, fabric ...). • Can be combined with antifungal. • Microsafe ® (Irgasan). • Marketing support. Stabilized derivatives of permethrin: resistant anti-mites. (3 rd generation) Principle: Permethrin, the world's first anti-insect molecule (in textile products) also kills mites, with a lower useful dose. Use: Deposited as a primer, sometimes combined with other molecules. • Perennial antarctic. • Price slightly higher. Inclusions without diffusion. Integration in a polymer of a non-diffusing active molecule. • Use of non-toxic active zeolites very well fixed (non-diffusing). • High cost. Examples: Ex: Acaristop ® • No known toxicity. • Bactekiller ®, Backtistop ®. No-Bacte® (active principle: zeolites, releasing active oxygen O 2 , integrated in polyester). • Washable at 60 ° (95 ° for some applications). • SME marketing. • Sometimes combined with an antifungal (slightly antibacterial, see 1 °) and a textile protector ("anti-stain" to avoid the formation of tasks that can act as "guard room" for the mite). • Bactistop ® Filling New non-diffusing and washable anti-bacterial lining fiber • Development opportunities. • Washable at 60 ° (according to current formulation with progress to be expected) 10 times. • Scientific support "In vivo". • Photostable. • Quick activity: 48 hours.
