Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing soles.
- the present invention further relates to a method for manufacturing antistatic shoes, the sole obtained thereby and the shoe employing such a sole.
- antistatic shoes have their soles made of plastic and elastomeric material and they provide greater comfort than do shoes with their soles made in the aforesaid isolating material because they allow to establish an electrical connection between the wearer and the ground, thus avoiding annoying and occasionally hazardous electrical discharge due to static electricity accumulation.
- the first solution can create problems to obtain a sole of determined mechanical-physical characteristics, such as wear resistance, elasticity, electrical resistance, whilst the second solution can be difficult to manufacture.
- the insertion of metallic conductors through the sole can create water tightness problems for the sole.
- the sole is formed maintaining metal conductors buried within the mould of the sole.
- the aim of the present invention is to provide an enhanced method for manufacturing antistatic soles, which allows the manufacture of improved antistatic soles and which is simple and economical to implement.
- Another aim of the present invention is to provide an enhanced method for manufacturing antistatic shoes, and the present invention further relates to the antistatic soles obtained by the aforementioned method and to the shoes employing said antistatic soles.
- an antistatic sole takes place according to the phases illustrated in Figures 1 through 11.
- a sole 1 made of plastic or elastomeric material is obtained in a known manner.
- the sole 1 exhibits a side 1a suitable for coming in contact with the ground and a side 1b suitable for connecting with an upper.
- the electrical conductors in the form of wires 2 provide the advantage of having a wear comparable to that of the material of the sole 1, whilst conducting elements of greater section form, over time, projecting areas on the bottom of the sole due to the different wear. These projecting areas can cause sliding, stumbling, and can scratch the parts that come in contact with the sole, for instance floors, stairs, parts of motor vehicles, etc.
- the metal wires even with small section, already achieve a satisfactory electrical connection through the sole made of isolating material.
- the compound of the sole 1 can also be made electrically conducting by the addition of electrically conducting particles. For instance, it is possible to use metal and metal oxide dusts, carbon dust, graphite dust.
- the insertion of the wire 2 in the sole 1 takes place by means of a tubular tip 3, as shown in Figure 1.
- a segment 2a of wire 2 is inserted only partially inside the tubular tip 3, in order not to project from the end 4 destined to hole the sole 1.
- the sole 1 is holed in a point 5 by means of the tip 3, then the segment 2a is extracted through the tubular tip 3.
- the segment 2a is cut with cutting means 6, for instance two blades in mutual co-operation, leaving a predetermined length L from the ground side 1a of the sole 1. Thereafter, as shown in Figure 4, the length L is folded back in order to make it adhere to the sole 1 from the ground side 1a.
- the section of the wire 2 can be very small because the necessary rigidity to hole the sole 1 is provided by the tubular tip 3.
- Said tip 3 also has sufficiently small section so that also the holes, created in the points 5a, 5b, 5c of the sole 1, are sufficiently small and do not allow the passage of liquids or other external agents.
- the elastic return of the material of the sole 1, subsequent to the introduction of the tubular tip 3, favours the adherence of the edge of the holes of the sole 1 to the wire segments 2a, and provides the sole 1 with optimal tightness against water and other external agents.
- FIG. 11 shows the successive phase of insertion of an electrically conducting pin 18. Said pin 18 is inserted in a seat 18a in the rear area of the sole 1 and serves as a connection between the wire segments 2a and the upper parts of a shoe which shall be described hereafter.
- a first insole 7 positioned in the front part of the sole, whose function is to increase comfort and to serve as a protection for the wire segments 2a.
- an upper 13, manufactured in a known manner, is connected to the sole 1 by means of a seam 14 positioned on the edge of the sole 1, or by means of gluing.
- first insole 7 On top of the first insole 7 is glued a second insole 8 whose shape extends on the complete surface of the sole 1 and which presents a first lamina 9 of conducting material positioned in the rear area of the sole 1.
- the lamina 9 is destined to make contact between the pin 18, connected to the wire segments 2a previously wound on the sole 1, and a second lamina 10, also made of conducting material, positioned in a third insole 11.
- the third insole 11 is in the rear area of the shoe and, being padded, it also has the function of increasing wear comfort and dampening the walking action.
- the second lamina 10 electrically connects the first lamina 9 with the heel of the user of the shoe, thereby achieving the desired electrical passage between ground and user.
- the lamina 10 is disc-shaped to make the contact more comfortable for the user.
- the lamina can have rectangular shape like the lamina 12 shown in Figure 12.
- the finished shoe 15 is shown in Figure 13.
- Figure 14 shows a section of a shoe 15 with the sole 1 obtained with the method described previously.
- the material of the sole 1 can indifferently be electrically isolating or conducting.
- Figure 15 shows a section of a shoe 15 with a sole 16 made of electrically conducting material.
- a sole 16 made of electrically conducting material.
- segments 17a; 17b, 17c of electrically conducting material, of lesser length, are present and they are not wound together. Their function is to increase the electrical conductivity of the sole 16.
- an electrically conducting pin 18 which serves as an electrical connection between the sole 16 as a whole and the first lamina 9 of the sole 8 described previously.
