Description

Beschreibungdescription
The invention relates to a method for imaging printing plates according to the preamble of claim 1.
US 54 87 338 A).Various methods are known for imaging flat printing or printing plates for offset printing. On the one hand, photosensitive plates are exposed with lasers and then developed by wet chemistry. There are also so-called thermoplates in the prior art, in which a crosslinking of the top layer is achieved by laser energy and the process initiated in this way is completed in a further step. Another approach was chosen for the so-called thermal abrasive plates. There, an absorbing intermediate layer is caused to evaporate by the laser, whereupon the overlying, ink-repellent layer is dissolved and can be removed in a subsequent step (cf. US 54 87 338 A).
It is also known to image a printing plate by applying a suitable liquid. According to US 40 03 312 A, a silicone solution corresponding to the image to be printed is sprayed onto a printing plate substrate and cured there, thereby producing the required surface structure of the printing plate. However, processing the silicone layer to be sprayed on is difficult. In addition, the sprayed-on silicone layer is hardened.
A discloses a method for producing a printing plate. With this printing plate, the ink-accepting layer, ie the printing layer, lies on the water-accepting layer. To produce the plate, the ink-receiving layer is sprayed with an imaging material using an ink jet, so that the non-printing areas become water-soluble. The invention has for its object to provide a method for imaging printing plates.
The object is achieved by the features of claim 1.
The advantages that can be achieved with the invention are, in particular, that an ink jet printing unit is used to apply a developing liquid to the ink-repellent layer in accordance with an image to be printed, with which the ink-repellent layer is dissolved or dissolved in the sprayed area and which - or dissolved areas of the ink-repellent layer are removed.
The top layer is therefore removed directly by spraying or printing on the top layer by means of the inkjet printing unit, or the top layer is dissolved or dissolved to the extent that it can be removed. With the developing liquid, the property of the ink-repellent layer is changed in such a way that it can be easily removed in the areas printed with the developing liquid. The areas not printed with the developing liquid remain on the printing plate, so that the desired surface structure is achieved. In the areas in which the ink-repellent layer is removed, the ink-accepting layer is exposed, so that the printing plate receives ink-accepting areas and ink-repellent areas in accordance with the image to be printed. With the help of the ink jet printing unit, the developing liquid can be applied drop by drop precisely.
Considerable advantages are achieved by directly dissolving or dissolving the surface layer of the printing plate in the manner described. This results in a higher operational reliability of the ink jet process, in particular the drying of the ink, which is known in the conventional processes, is prevented. When spraying silicone solutions or the application of light-repellent printing inks for the photographic development of the printing plates, the print head often stuck, which was a complex process Cleaning required or made the printhead completely unusable. In contrast, the developing liquid used in the present invention cannot stick the print head of the ink jet printing unit.
In addition, further steps in the processing of the printing plate such as. B. the curing of the sprayed-on silicone or synthetic resin solution or the usual photographic development of photosensitive layers after the fixing of the areas which cannot be removed.
In a particularly advantageous manner, in the described imaging of a printing plate, clean room conditions in the printing press, which had to be observed in the previously known methods, can be dispensed with, since no material is applied, but only material is removed.
In principle, different printing plates can be used. However, a waterless printing plate with an ink-repellent layer of silicone is preferably used in particular. Various layers that can withstand the developing liquid for the ink-repellent layer can be considered as the ink-accepting layer; in particular, a polyethylene film can be provided under the silicone layer.
The developing liquid used is expediently matched to the layer to be dissolved or dissolved. In particular, a solvent is used with which the corresponding areas of the ink-repellent layer are liquefied. As a result, the silicone layer can be removed in a particularly simple manner in a subsequent step in the detached areas.
Various variants are possible for removing the detached or detached areas of the top layer of the printing plate. For example, the resolved or resolved areas with the first printing ink or with a suitable one Cleaning unit can be removed mechanically. The areas of the printing plate lying on top or dissolved are preferably removed by mechanical stress on the printing plate, in particular by a printing process. This minimizes the steps required for imaging and achieves efficient and simple printing plate imaging.
Instead of the previously described dissolving and dissolving and removing of the ink-repellent layer, it is in principle also possible to print an overlying ink-accepting layer with developing liquid in the manner mentioned by means of an ink-jet printing unit and thereby to dissolve, dissolve and remove it , so that the ink-repellent layer underneath in this case is exposed in certain areas. Preferably, however, in the manner described above, a printing plate with a top, ink-repellent layer, in particular made of silicone, is used, which is removed in regions in accordance with the image to be printed.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing and will be described in more detail below.
Es zeigen:Show it:
Fig. 1 eine schematische Darstellung einer Druckplatte im Rohzustand vor dem Auftrag der Entwicklungsflüssigkeit mittels eines Druckkopfes gemäß einer bevorzugten Ausführung der Erfindung;Figure 1 is a schematic representation of a printing plate in the raw state before the application of the developing liquid by means of a print head according to a preferred embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a schematic representation of the printing plate of Fig. 1 after the imaging.
The printing plate 01 shown in FIG. 1 has a carrier layer or a substrate 02, which can be made of aluminum and has a suitable thickness in order to achieve the desired mechanical properties. On it are applied a color-accepting Layer 03 and an ink-repellent layer 04 lying above it. The ink-accepting layer 03 can be designed as a polyethylene film. Their thickness can be in the range of 5-50 μm, preferably it can be approximately 20 μm. The color-repellent layer 04 consists of silicone. Their thickness is chosen appropriately. It can be in the range of a few μm, in the embodiment shown it is approximately 2 μm. An adhesive or primer layer can lie between the substrate 02 and the ink-accepting layer 03. In the exemplary embodiment shown, a titanium oxide layer is provided.
Preferably, a waterless printing plate from Presstek (PeariDry) is used, as described in US 54 87 338 A, to which express reference is made with regard to the construction of the printing plate.
In order to partially detach or remove the silicone layer 04 in accordance with the image to be printed, a solvent is applied dropwise to the surface of the silicone layer 04 by means of the print head 05 of an ink jet printing unit, which is shown schematically in FIG. 1. The control of the print head 05 is carried out in the usual way for inkjet printers. The solvent applied in accordance with the image to be printed liquefies the silicone in the areas in which it is applied, so that the silicone can easily be detached in these areas. Instead of liquefaction, only a change in the properties of the silicone layer 04, e.g. B. by swelling or reducing the bracket to the underlying layer. The detached silicone layer 04 or its detached areas can be continued with the first color or a suitable cleaning unit. It is advantageous here that the dissolved silicone is present as a liquid. In particular, the liquefied silicone can be removed by the mechanical stress of a printing process.
The completely illustrated printing plate with the removed areas of the silicone layer 04 is shown in FIG. 2. The printing plate 01 is brought into contact with printing ink that is only on the ink-accepting polyethylene layer 03, ie in the areas in which the silicone layer 04 has been removed, adheres. Accordingly, the imaging of the printing plate is transferred to the support to be printed.
