Definitions
- the present invention relates to watch movements of the type comprising a frame and a gear train formed of mobile mounted pivoting on the frame.
- a first of these mobiles is provided with a tigeron intended to receive a first needle while a second of these mobiles is provided with a barrel arranged coaxially with the tigeron and intended to receive a second needle.
- Virtually all needle-display watches have these features.
- Their movement more precisely comprises a timer train consisting of a roadway, a mobile timer and a wheel of hours. This wheel provides a division by twelve.
- the pavement is mounted frictionally on a mobile minute, performing one turn per hour. Its end is equipped with a tigeron on which it is possible to chase a needle, intended to display the minutes.
- the hour wheel is equipped with a barrel mounted free to rotate on the road. It makes a turn in twelve hours in the same direction as the pavement, and carries a needle intended to display the hours.
- the movement according to the invention is characterized in that the second mobile is mounted, rotatable, on the frame by means of a ball bearing, which is fixed rigidly to the barrel.
- the bearing comprises a core, a ring and balls disposed between the core and the ring, the ring being fixed rigidly to the frame and the core to the second mobile, for example by force, by driving on the barrel.
- the movement comprises a chronograph type mechanism with a chronograph wheel having a second mobile, formed by the second mobile.
- the positions of the various components arranged on and facing the dial of the watch are defined with reference to the position occupied by an hour hand rotating on an axis passing through the center of the dial.
- the watch represented at figure 1 comprises a box 10 defining a housing in which is disposed a watch movement, which will be described with reference to the figure 2 .
- This movement carries a round dial 12 and hour hands 14, minutes 16, seconds 18 and chronograph seconds 20. It is controlled by a ring 22 arranged at three o'clock and by a pusher 24 coaxial with the ring 22.
- the hands of hours 14 and 18 seconds are off-center, respectively arranged at noon and six o'clock.
- the minute hands 16 and chronograph seconds 20 are coaxial with the dial.
- the movement comprises a frame, formed of a plate 26, bridges, including a finishing bridge 28, a center bridge 30, a timer bridge 32 and a chronograph bridge 34, this frame being intended to serve as a support for the various moving parts of the movement.
- This movement comprises a power source supplying a rocker by means of a finishing gear comprising center wheels 36, of average 38 and seconds at the center 40, and an escapement which has not been shown. because it does not form part of the invention.
- These mobiles each comprise a wheel identified by the reference a and a pinion bearing the reference b.
- the center wheel 36 carries, mounted friction, a floor 42, provided with a rod 42a for carrying the minute hand 16, and which forms the first mobile of a clockwork.
- the latter comprises, in addition, a return 44 meshing with a timer mobile, which cooperates with a gun wheel, carrying the hour hand 14.

- the gearing of this movement further comprises a small second gear 46, an oscillating gear 48 and a chronograph second wheel 50.
- the small second gear is engaged with the average wheel 38a. It is intended to carry the seconds hand 18.
- the oscillating gear 48 is provided with two teeth respectively identified by the letters a and b and meshing respectively with the seconds wheel 40a and with the chronograph second wheel 50. It is mounted in bearings that comprise the finishing bridge 28 and a rocker 52. The latter is secured to the plate 26, on which it can pivot, and controlled by a chronograph mechanism which will not be described in detail, because well known to those skilled in the art, itself actuated by the pusher 24.
- the rocker 52 When the rocker 52 pivots, it laterally drives the pinion of the pinion 48, so that, in the direction of movement, its toothing 48b disengages from or meshes with the toothing of the wheel 50.
- the pinion 48 and the flip-flop 52 together form a clutch kinematically or non-kinematically connecting the seconds wheel at the center 40a to the chronograph second wheel 50.
- the chronograph seconds wheel 50 is arranged coaxial with the roadway 42. It is formed of a board identified by the letter a , which meshes with the toothing 48b, of a barrel b , engaged on the roadway 42 and bearing the second chronograph seconds hand 20, and a heart c , whose function will be specified later and which, adjacent to the board 50a, is made in one piece with the barrel 50b. It is pivotally mounted on the chronograph bridge 34 by means of a ball bearing 54. The latter is formed of a ring 54a fixed to the chronograph bridge 34 by means of a key not shown in the drawing, a core 54b, driven on the barrel 50b, and 54c balls arranged, conventionally between the ring and the core.
- the core 50c is intended to cooperate with a hammer, part of the chronograph mechanism mentioned above, which ensures, in a manner well known to those skilled in the art, the zeroing of the second chronograph seconds hand.
- the watch movement as just described can be made from a conventional mechanical watch movement, of the type allowing either the display seconds to six hours, or the center.
- This basic movement is completed by a modified timer train for arranging the gun wheel at noon and a chronograph module attached to the base movement, between the plate 26 and the dial 12.
- the only significant modification made to the Basic movement refers to the addition of the oscillating gear 48, which must bring back the movement of the 40a seconds wheel to the chronograph seconds wheel.
- the movement as described may be subject to many variations, without departing from the invention. It is thus quite possible to make a watch in which the hour hand is concentric with the minute hand. In this case, the gun wheel would be interposed between the roadway 42 and the chronograph second wheel 50.
