Definitions
- the invention relates to a ballistic vest with protection factor SK 1 and a surface weight between 3.7 and 4.1 kg / m 2 and which contains a stack of flexible packets, which are composed of unidirectional layers, consisting largely of a first type of fiber, namely polybenzoxazole ( PBO), the fibers in one unidirectional layer running mainly parallel and forming an angle to the fibers of the adjacent layer which is greater than 0 degrees.
- PBO polybenzoxazole
- Ballistic vests which consist of unidirectional PBO fiber layers and are characterized by an SK1 protection factor, are known to the market. A surface weight of approx. 3.7 kg / m 2 is required to obtain the SK 1 protection factor.
- the aim of the invention is to develop a vest which contains at most 2.6 kg / m 2 unidirectional layers of PBO fiber, the SK 1 protection factor being maintained and the surface weight increasing by no more than 10%.
- the vest on body or Weft side consists of packets of layers of a second fiber type, that these packets of layers of the second fiber type 40-80 Weight percent of the vest form and primarily aramid or HPPE fibers included, with the packets of aramid or HPPE layers on the On the weft side of the vest.
- these packets of layers of the second fiber type 40-80 Weight percent of the vest form and primarily aramid or HPPE fibers included, with the packets of aramid or HPPE layers on the On the weft side of the vest.
- a vest which, with a surface weight of 3.7 to 4.1 kg / m 2 and an SK 1 protection factor, contains a maximum of 2.46 kg / m 2 PBO UD.
- Surface weight is defined here like the weight of the vest per square meter.
- HPPE fibers are stretched ultra-high Molecular polyethylene fibers.
- Ultra high molecular polyethylene fibers exist made of polyethylene with an average molecular weight of at least 500,000 kg / kmol. The molecular weight is preferably more than 2,000,000 kg / kmol.
- SK 1-Schutz means that the vest passes through the standard of German protection class 1 meets the requirements.
- a vest consists of a stack of Package made of strong fibers. These packets can consist of two or more Layers of unidirectional fibers can be built up. The fibers run here mostly parallel and form an angle to the fibers of an adjacent layer, that is greater than 0 degrees. A packet should preferably consist of two or four Layers exist.
- the vest preferably comprises 50-70 percent by weight Layers of the second variety. This ensures that the weight is less than 5% from a vest made entirely of PBO layers is composed.
- fibers we mean stretched objects, their Length is significantly greater than its width or thickness. Contain fibers continuous mono- and multifilaments such as staple or cut fibers.
- strong fibers means in this New development usually fibers with a strength of at least 6 dN / tex, a modulus of at least 130 dN / tex and a breaking energy of at least 8 J / g. Strong fibers deserve preference, fibers with one Strength of at least 10 dN / tex, a modulus of at least 200 dN / tex and a breaking energy of at least 20 J / g. Fibers deserve greater preference with a strength of at least 16 dN / tex, a modulus of at least 400 dN / tex and a breaking energy of at least 27 J / g.
- fibers with a strength of at least 28 dN / tex deserve one Modulus of at least 1200 dN / tex and a breaking energy of at least 40 J / g proven.
- Both aramid and HPPE fibers come as strong fibers in question. HPPE fibers are preferred.
- Toyobo's Zylon® was used as the PBO fiber.
- the SK 1 protection factor for a vest of less than 4.1 kg / m 2 and less than 70 percent by weight of PBO fibers could be achieved in the composition of example 1.
