Abstract

The method is for the adhesive fitment of a cover sheet (1) to the back of a book block (8) comprising bound sheets. It involves the cover sheet with its inside facing the book block back (9) pressed against the block back and against the lateral flanks (12) of the block back sides. The cover sheet, before being brought into connection with the book block back, is reduced on the inside at least over its width in relation to its remaining thickness. The cover sheet has decorative ribs (2,3) and the recesses between these ribs are lifted away before or after the ribs are produced.

Description

The invention relates to a method for sticky attachment an envelope on the back of a bound printed sheet formed book blocks in the production of books, brochures, Magazines or the like, in which the cover sheet each with the inside of the book block spine for connection fed and then to the book block spine and the side flanks of the book block spine is pressed.

This process includes in "Perfect Binding Technology" by Alfred Furler, Issue 1971 under Section 8.6 "Hanging in Envelopes" to read.

It happens that the envelopes appear on the surface are coated with a glue-incompatible coating, so that a insufficient connection of the cover with the book block arises. The surface is often too smooth, making it inadequate The cover is attached to the back of the book block. Also a possible one between the adhesive and the surface chemical process arising from the cover sheet is impaired a combination of book block and cover. Thick envelopes have a negative impact on the opening behavior in the spine area of a book block because she is the unpopular Increase the clinging effect on the back.

These disadvantages have led to the task of a process to create in the manner mentioned above, with which a more flexible, the degree of opening and stress of a bound Book responsive manufactured spine and optimal compatibility between glue and cover sheet can be achieved.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the cover sheet is reduced before being brought together with the spine of the book block on the inside, at least over its width, with respect to the remaining cover thickness.
The back area that can be achieved and relieved of tension has a positive effect on the flexibility and durability of a spine when opening and closing a book.

The cover sheets can be prepared off-line or after Leaving an envelope feeder or on the way to Book block spines are processed accordingly.

The cover sheet is advantageous at least across the width of the book block spine removed in layers, so that a regular Surface remains.

The cover material is preferably removed mechanically or chemical, i.e. in a proven way.

To optimize the adhesive connection between the book block and the cover can rework the exposed surface or be treated.

The excavation of the recess on the cover sheet can be done before or after making the decorative grooves.

The process according to the invention can be carried out in an adhesive binder become.

Fig. 1
Fig. 2
den mit dem Buchblockrücken verbundenen Umschlagbogen.
Subsequently, the invention is explained with reference to the drawing, to which reference is made with regard to all details not mentioned in the description, using an exemplary embodiment. The drawing shows:
Fig. 1
an extended cover sheet and a book block provided in the hanging position and
Fig. 2
the cover sheet connected to the spine of the book block.

Fig. 1 shows an envelope 1 provided with four hollow grooves, the two outer hollow grooves forming the so-called decorative groove 2, 3, which prove to be the hinge of the book covers. The inner grooves 4, 5 serve to surround the book spine edges 6, 7 of a book block 8, as shown in FIG. 2. In Fig. 1, a bound book block 8 is shown evenly distributed on the grooves 2 to 5 at a distance from the book cover 1. This book cover 1 is provided on the side facing the book block spine 9 with a recess 10 reaching almost to the decorative grooves 2, 3, which projects beyond the book block spine 9 for the purpose of side gluing on the flanks to the book block spine 9. The boundary lines of the envelope 1 drawn relative to the line representing the bottom 11 of the recess 10 are intended to indicate that the latter is coated on both sides. The recess 10 extends uniformly at least approximately over the envelope height.
The recess 10 can be machined or by applying an aggressive agent. Post-processing or post-treatment of the bottom 11 of the recess 10 could favor the later connection with the glue.
FIG. 2 shows a book completed according to the information from FIG. 1.
The cover, for example, brought up to the back of the book block 9 by a cover feeder, has a recess 10 which is raised off-line or on the way to the cover station of a perfect binder and which is provided with a glue application 13. In parallel, side gluing can be carried out on the flanks of the book block spine 9 in the perfect binder. Thereafter, the book cover 1 is brought up from below to the book block spine 9 and pressed both from below to the book block spine 9 as well as to the flanks 12 of the book block spine 9 (read in "Technology of perfect binding" by Alfred Furler, edition 1971). The glue application 13 connects the book block 8 and the cover 1 over the area between the decorative grooves 2, 3.

The on the book block spine 9 and / or the edge 12 and in the Recess 10 occurring glue is in Fig. 2 by hatching recognizable and fills the book block spine, decorative grooves 2, 3 and envelope 1 or the recess 10 limited space.
