Description

Gebiet der ErfindungField of the Invention

The present application relates to hydrophobizing agents for textile finishing, a process for the hydrophobic finishing of textiles and the use of certain fatty substances as Water repellents.

Stand der TechnikState of the art

A. Chwala, V. Anger, Verlag Chemie, New York 1977, Kapitel 3.24 "Phobiermittel", Seite 735 ff). Das Wasser nimmt aufgrund der Kohäsionskräfte die Kugelform an und perlt von der Textiloberfläche ab.Hydrophobing agents are generally used to make textiles hydrophobic Based on polysiloxanes, fluorocarbons or mixtures of aluminum or Zirconium salts with paraffins used (see "Handbook of Textile Aids", A. Chwala, V. Anger, Verlag Chemie, New York 1977, Chapter 3.24 "Phobiermittel", page 735 ff). The hydrophobic finishing of textiles, especially in weather protection clothing, serves to make them either water-repellent or water-impermeable. The Hydrophobing agent is applied to the fibers of the textiles and is arranged there so that the hydrophobic parts of the molecule are perpendicular to the fiber surface. That way the striving of the water to spread over the entire area is greatly diminished. The Due to the cohesive forces, water takes on the spherical shape and bubbles from it Textile surface.

In US 2,635,055 aqueous emulsions for waterproofing textiles discloses a wax in combination with amine soaps in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion of saturated fatty acids and water-soluble nonionic surfactants as well as of aqueous Contain zirconium salt solutions. US 3,180,750 describes aqueous agents for Waterproofing of textiles containing oxidized polymeric waxes and fat ketones have to. From US 2,759,851 it is known that aqueous wax dispersions, the amine salts and aluminum salts of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids and salts of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids with zircon are suitable for making textiles waterproof. Although the hydrophobicizing agent described in the prior art, in particular the zirconium salt-containing paraffin emulsions, as described, for example, in DD-A1-218 564 Adequate hydrophobization of textile fabrics are described enable, there is the problem that such agents are not or not sufficiently biological are degradable. In addition, one observes when applying such paraffin emulsions a foulard after a long running time on the foulard rollers, paraffin deposits, the one Cleaning the rollers and thus a costly interruption of the Make the production process necessary. There was therefore a need to make water repellent To provide compositions that meet all the application requirements of the Textile industry correspond - especially no or only slight deposits on the Cause machine parts and at the same time are biodegradable.

It has been found that a combination of zirconium salts with certain fatty substances increases Hydrophobing agents that have comparable values in terms of equipment to that known paraffin emulsions, but also meet the requirements biodegradability. There is also a tendency to form deposits reduced on machine parts during the application of the agents.

In a first embodiment, a hydrophobizing agent for textile equipment claimed, which is in the form of an aqueous emulsion containing a zirconium salt Contains combination with a fatty substance which is selected from the group of branched or unbranched, symmetrical or asymmetrical dialkyl ethers with a total of 8 to 44 carbon atoms.

The fatty substances are known alkyl ethers of the general formula R 1 -OR 2 , where R 1 and R 2 each represent alkyl radicals having 1 to 22 carbon atoms. The total number of carbon atoms in the molecule is 8 to 44. Both symmetrical ethers, ie R 1 and R 2 are identical, or unsymmetrical ethers (R 1 ≠ R 2 ) can be used. The alkyl radicals R 1 and R 2 can be saturated, unsaturated, branched or unbranched. Those ethers whose radicals R 1 or R 2 have a C chain length of 10 to 22 are particularly preferred. The total carbon number of the ethers is preferably 20 to 44. Preferred ethers are, for example, dibehenyl ether, distearyl ether, dipalmityl ether or dimyristyl ether. An example of an unsymmetrical ether is ethylhexyleicosyl ether. The ethers can be prepared by all known technical processes.
