Bei entsprechenden bekannten Weichen befindet sich am Ende des Weichenbereiches in Transportrichtung zwischen den beiden Eingängen der abführenden Deckbandsysteme das Schwenklager eines keilförmigen, entgegen der Transportrichtung gerichteten Leitelementes.
Dieses Leitelement bildet je nach Schwenkstellung einen Kanal für die Sendungen zwischen seiner Seitenwand in dem jeweiligen äußeren durchgehenden Transportriemen.
Laufen die Sendungen durch den Weichenbereich, ist es möglich, daß insbesondere gebogene oder geknickte Sendungen gegen das Schwenklager stoßen und eine Störung auslösen. Damit ein ordnungsgemäßer Ablauf in der Sortiermaschine gewährleistet ist, muß sich das Ablenkelement in seiner jeweiligen Endstellung befinden, bevor eine Sendung in die Weiche einläuft. Sollen die Abstände zwischen den Sendungen für einen hohen Maschinendurchsatz möglichst klein gehalten werden, müßten die Ablenkelemente der Weichen schon zu einem Zeitpunkt umschalten, zu dem die vorherige Sendung die Weiche noch nicht verlassen hat. Dies ist aber in diesem Fall nur eingeschränkt möglich, da bei einem zeitigen Umschalten die vorherige Sendung mit ihren hinteren Bereichen gegen einen Transportriemen gedrückt wird, wodurch entweder die Sendung zerstört werden kann oder die Weiche nicht ordnungsgemäß schalten kann.
