Abstract

The brush comprises a handle with a connected collar inside which is a layer of paste (112). A tuft of fibers with one end placed in the collar is buried in the paste layer whilst the other free end issues from the collar. The internal side faces of the collar have a first portion (116) at a given angle to the bottom and a second portion (117) sloping more outwards. A third portion (118) slopes outwards less than the second. The collar has an outwards projecting rib (125) along its free edge.

Description

The present invention relates to application brushes products such as paints, varnishes, glues or other liquids.

In the prior art, brushes with handles, tuft of fibers and ferrule, the ferrule surrounding both the handle and the tuft for liaise between them.

It has been proposed to secure the hairs together, at the level of their end of sleeve side, with a layer of glue. However, it is necessary to achieve a tedious alignment of the bristles before gluing them.

We also wanted to reduce the cost of producing such paint brushes. For this, we know how to place shims between bundles of hair at the base of the tuft to spare interstices and thus reduce the number fiber, and cut costs.

However, these gaps form paint reserves in the tuft, which, if they allow a more durable paint removal after each soaking, however cause inhomogeneities in the layer of deposited paint, and favor drips from the tuft towards the handle.

In addition, the fibers thus arranged constitute a tuft which is not flexible only from a certain distance from the shell. Such flexibility limited to the vicinity of the free end of the tuft is not very effective in terms of removal and smoothing.

We propose here to provide a brush of easy realization, therefore inexpensive, which nevertheless allows a long and homogeneous removal of painting thanks to a particular flexibility of the tuft of fibers.

This object is achieved according to the invention thanks to a brush comprising

• a sleeve,
• a ferrule / receptacle assembly, linked to the handle,
• a layer of adhesive, inside the ferrule / receptacle assembly, and
• a homogeneous tuft of fibers, without incorporated shim, of which a first end placed in the ferrule / receptacle assembly is embedded in the layer of adhesive, while the second free end emerges outside the ferrule / receptacle assembly, and in which the tuft of fibers has an at least substantially homogeneous density, over its entire length, from the end embedded in the layer of adhesive to the second free end, and suitable for allowing a deflection of the fibers as a whole ferrule / receptacle, so that in use, the tuft of fibers can be bent from its section located in the ferrule / receptacle assembly, beyond the layer of adhesive, characterized in that the receptacle comprises arrangements of its side walls which form an anchorage for the adhesive, these anchoring arrangements being orifices passing through the side walls of the receptacle.

It turned out that with these provisions, the tuft presents a significant removal capacity and flexibility providing quality surprisingly flexible, particularly localized at the base of the tuft, and especially from inside the receptacle.

Thanks to these provisions also, such a brush can be easily realized by adapting very easily the nature, the length, the density of fibers and their homogeneity, both transversely to the tuft only along their height, this adaptation being carried out in function of the products to be applied to obtain a removal capacity important and flexibility providing a quality of application surprising.

The brush which will be described is a flat brush (but which can also be rectangular, round, oval or any other shape). It is here consists of four main elements, namely a fiber holder 100, a tuft of bristles 200, a cover or ferrule 300, and a handle 400.

The fiber holder 100 is in the form of a container made of plastic material, here in polyacetal, having a bottom wall 105 and a circumferential wall 110 forming the border of the bottom wall.

The bottom wall 105 has an elongated shape on two sides straight and two ends in semicircles.

The fiber holder 100 is designed to first receive a layer of glue 112 in its bottom, then the tuft of hairs 200.

The bottom wall 105 is for this a solid wall forming with a base part of the side wall, a cup for receiving the glue before introduction of fibers.

The side wall 110 however has a series of orifices 115, slightly offset from the bottom of the fiber holder, each having here a circular shape of small diameter (having an order of magnitude about a quarter of the height of the fiber holder).

The glue is introduced into the fiber holder and enters the holes 115. Not only does the glue follow the internal contours of the orifices 115 but it crosses the orifices to also mold itself into cavities anchors adjacent to the holes.

When the tuft of fibers 200 is introduced into the glue 112, the glue rises slightly along the fibers as well as between the fibers and the wall lateral 110.

The orifices therefore have a primary function of forming a cavity anchor for glue once hardened, and a second passage function fluidics towards anchoring facilities belonging to the rest of the brush. These latter anchoring arrangements will be described below. These different anchors are used for glue and therefore also for fibers.

The orifices 115 are distributed over the periphery of the fiber holder according to the width of the brush.

The regular distribution of the orifices 115 at the edge of the bottom 105, at a constant height in relation to the bottom, allows the glue outlet to be the same over substantially the entire length of the fiber holder after the introduction of hairs. The final adhesive height in the fiber holder is therefore homogeneous.

A final adhesive thickness between 1 and 5 mm is found satisfactory from the point of view of the strength and flexibility of the tuft, with a more advantageous thickness between 2 to 4 mm, and a ideal thickness of 3 mm.

Of course, a homogeneous distribution of the orifices is also easily installed in the case of round brushes, on which one either of the above and below proposed set of provisions can also be adapted to a round brush.

The circumferential wall 110 comprises two ribs 120, parallel to the bottom, which extend over the entire contour of the fiber holder passing between the series of orifices 115 and an upper free edge of the wall 110.

Alternatively, these ribs may only be present on part of the outline.

These ribs 120 are provided to be housed in grooves 320 corresponding to the internal wall of the cover 300, thus making it possible to position and hold in place the fiber holder 100 in the cover or ferrule 300 before pouring the glue and introducing the bristles.

The outer face of the circumferential wall 110 extends perpendicular to the bottom wall 105.

However the wall 110 has by its internal face a surface generally oblique in orientation, that is to say which deviates from the center of the fiber holder when traversed away from the bottom 105. This spacing orientation is found here advantageously on all inside periphery of the receptacle, but may not possibly be adopted on only part of the inner circumference.

The inner face of the wall 110 has, in other words, a overall funnel shape, which here corresponds to a decrease in thickness of the wall 110.

More specifically, an inner surface of the wall 110 has an oblique part 117 which is located at the half height of the wall 110, surrounded by two portions above 116 and below 118 and this oblique part, which are here both at right angles to the bottom 105.

More precisely still, the half height 116 which is adjacent to the bottom 105, has an inner face at right angles to the bottom 105, and the last third 118 in height, free edge side is also at an angle law. Between these two portions, the oblique portion extends to approximately 80 ° from the bottom 105 of the fiber holder.

This general shape flared inside the fiber holder constitutes a funnel at the introduction of the tuft of hairs, and gives the fibers a bending freedom chosen inside the fiber holder 100.

In addition, the fact that the internal face includes two portions, one 116 on the bottom side less inclined than the other 117, further away from the bottom, is particularly advantageous.

The portion 116 of the wall located on the bottom side allows, by its straight orientation, to maintain the orientation of the most lateral fibers vertically when the glue hardens, the more oblique part 117 allowing an inclination of the fibers, mainly when they are subjected to lateral force.

The fibers being allowed to flex inside the fiber holder 100, this gives increased overall flexibility to the tuft 200, in particular to the level of the base of the tuft, giving a better quality of application (better removal and better smoothing).

In addition, because the interior of the side wall 110 extends first vertically then obliquely, the side wall 110 is slightly apart from the tuft of hair 200 above the oblique part 117.

Such a gap between the tuft 200 and the side wall 110 retains any paint or solvent leaks inside the fiber holder 100, thus preventing flow outside the brush until handle as is the case with traditional brushes.

This gap has a height suitable for retaining a quantity satisfactory paint, especially in the oblique part 117, and the part right 118 free edge side.

To also ensure that no flow goes up the hairs and does not reach the handle by an internal path with a brush (like this is the case with traditional ferrules), it is expected that the fiber holder 100 forms a sealed container, thanks to the fact that the orifices 115 are clogged with glue. Sufficiently small orifices 115 are therefore provided. in connection with a sufficient quantity of glue for this.

The polyacetal used here for the fiber holder has mechanical and chemical characteristics identical to metal by removing however the risks of oxidation.

Because the fibers are spaced from each other, and the fiber holder 100 is broadly flared, the fibers bend inside even of the fiber holder, giving the tuft 200 a great flexibility, it is to say a high quality of application and a great ease of use.

There is in particular a main bending zone which is located here in the fiber holder 100 when it's about a third of the fiber height in traditional brushes with ferrules.

However, the adhesive layer is particularly stressed, especially drawn towards the front of the brush at its edges longitudinal. It has therefore proven advantageous to distribute the orifices along longitudinal edges allowing the use of a layer of glue particularly fine.

To further accentuate the restraining effect of possible paint or solvents, the side wall 110 has, on its external face, at its free edge, a circumferential rib 125.

This rib 125 has opposite the end of the tuft 200 a flat face 127 perpendicular to the main axis of the brush.

This face 127 forms a barrier against possible flows going up along the tuft and retains them on the tuft, towards the inside of the fiber holder.

The cover 300 shown in Figure 6 is provided to cover the fiber holder 100 up to border, by its own free edge, that of the fiber holder 100, further extending the barrier to the sides of the brush transverse 127.

The cover 300, made of plastic, constitutes an envelope of generally flat shape, of internal section complementary to the section external of the fiber holder 100, and extending in the direction of the height of the fiber holder 100 over a length sufficient to accommodate both the fiber holder and part of the handle 400.

As stated before, this cover 300 has, for a precise placement of the fiber holder 100 within it, a pair of grooves internal 320 receiving the two ribs 120 of the fiber holder. The fiber holder is also provided on the external face of its bottom wall 105 with walls not shown forming stiffeners and coming to bear in the bottom of the cover 300.

In addition, the cover 300 forms a groove on its internal wall. rectilinear 330 which comes along each series of orifices 115, to receive the glue 112 passing through the orifices 115, and thus form an anchoring cavity for this glue once hardened.

Such a brush is therefore here produced by introducing the bristles into a fiber holder closed and secured to the hood (and to the handle), the assembly thus forming before introduction of the fibers a virtually non-removable assembly handle / cover / fiber holder, the fiber holder forming a receptacle at the bottom and side walls, fitted with an adjusted dose of liquid glue before introduction fibers.

We set up a type of fibers, a length and a density adapted to the product to be applied. In the present case of a paint brush, the fiber density at the glue layer is less than 0.55 grams / cm ³ .

This density is substantially the same in the free part of the tuft, up to the level of the free end thereof, so that the tuft has a bending ability which is substantially uniform over all its height, from its end attached to the glue, inside the receptacle 100 to its free end.

This gives a homogeneous spacing between the fibers which gives to the tuft a satisfactory paint retention capacity, as well as a deflection capacity of the fibers inside the receptacle.

The regularity of deposit (spreading quality) is therefore markedly improved by the choice of such homogeneous fiber densities. There is no mass of paint under the brush during the deposit.

Adopting such a density, which is homogeneous and adapted to the product to be applied, not controlled in the prior art, gives the tuft greater flexibility with equal pile length (equal pull). Such increased flexibility produces a smoothing (smooth and regular appearance of the layer paint) and removal (amount of paint retained by soaking) both improved.

In addition, the fact of sticking the hairs directly in place on the element which will keep them permanently in the brush allows to adapt easily the chosen density, because the fibers are distributed naturally over the entire extent of the glue layer 112 which is the extent final within the brush.

In other words, the fibers being bonded together directly to the within their final receptacle, they are distributed in density so naturally homogeneous and adapt precisely to the outline of this receptacle.

The placement of fibers with a chosen density is therefore easy, in using the very contours of the brush structure.

According to a variant shown in Figure 10, it is expected that the receptacle for bonding the fibers is made up of two elements separate, i.e. the bottom of the receptacle consists of one side end of the handle 400 and the side walls of the receptacle are constituted by the walls of a metallic ferrule 500 having in this case the shape of a sleeve surrounding the handle.

A layer of glue 412 is placed in the bottom of the receptacle, it is to say on the front face of the handle 400, then the tuft of fibers 200 is immersed in the layer of glue 412, which hardens at once in contact fibers and the receptacle bottom simultaneously, the fibers being placed according to a homogeneous distribution along the layer of glue 412 and matching the edges of the receptacle.

The edges of the receptacle are expected to include concave stampings of the shell in which is housed and anchor the glue.

The glue also comes to anchor directly on the handle 400, which here has pins 400 engaged in the adhesive layer 412 for the hold back.

Alternatively, it is expected that the bottom of a fiber holder such as fiber holder 200, described with reference to Figures 1 to 8, is also provided studs, studs or blades which retain the glue or the resin, especially in the case of wide or thick brushes. These elements are by example made with the fiber holder 200, as shown in Figure 9.

Regarding the first variant of Figures 1 to 8, for fixing the sleeve 400, the cover 300 forms, opposite the tuft 200, a cover crossed by a hole for receiving the handle 400.

The cover 300 therefore forms a re-entrant tubular channel 340 forming receptacle for a corresponding end tube 440 of the handle 400, the tube 340 carrying at its inner end an annular groove 345 and the tube 440 being provided with an annular rib corresponding to the groove 345. The groove 345 is further preceded by a retaining rib 347 in upstream with respect to the direction of insertion of the handle 400.

The outline of the cover 300 has, in the main plane of the cover, a rounded shape around the fiber holder 200, and forms, in its center, a cavity 350 in U towards the fiber holder, the bottom of which is extended by the tube withholding 340.

A substantially flat handle 400 is provided, of a thickness close to that of the ferrule 300, and whose end portion adjacent to the cover 300 has a U-shaped contour complementary to the U-shaped cavity 350 of the cover 300, and further forming, at the base of the U, the tube 440 which is inserted into channel 340.

The end portion of the U-shaped handle is therefore placed in the cavity of the same shape of the cover 300.

The cavity 350 in U of the cover 300 has, on the internal face of the branches of the U, lugs 355 coming to be housed in cavities complementary 455 formed on the external faces of the U-shaped contour of the handle 400. These pins and cavities prevent rotation of the handle 400 relative to the cover 300.

Thanks to these arrangements, a 400 handle of the same type is used. dimensions for different widths of brush heads.

This handle 400 also has a thinned part in the vicinity of its junction with the cover 300, which allows an efficient grip and facilitates finishing work.

The fiber holder 100 further carries, on the external face of its wall of bottom 105, a projecting wall, not shown, which extends to the inside of the handle 400 by its end opening, that is to say at inside the tube 440.

This wall is also oriented perpendicular to the plane main brush and has a width equal to the inside diameter of the tube 440. Thus, this wall forms a support arm against tilting of the fiber holder 100 inside the cover 300, in particular against a tilting around an axis included in the brush plane and perpendicular to the main axis of the latter.

We can provide another wall in another direction or even replace these walls with a complete cylinder, intended to prevent tilting in all directions.

The cover 300 therefore forms a large envelope whose volume extends around the fiber holder 200 and beyond the latter towards the handle 400, as well as on the sides of the handle.

In its volume located near the handle 400, the cover 300 is practically empty. The present brush is therefore particularly light. In addition, the handle 400 is itself traversed by a cavity 450 longitudinal, surrounded over its entire length by the handle, this cavity further increasing the lightness of the brush.

By this sealed internal volume, the brush plunged by the tuft into a liquid, paint or solvent for example, has a lower mass to that of the liquid and therefore it floats. So the brush plunged for example in a jar of solvent or a can of paint remains moderately engaged in the liquid, handle above the surface of the liquid.

The handle 400 and the cover 300 have here their interior volumes in mutual bond and present means to ensure the sealing of this volume thus assembled.

The internal cavity 450 of the handle 400 is only open at the end front of the fixing tube 440, communicating with the interior volume of the cover 300, and the two fixing tubes 340 and 440 are provided respectively of a rib and an annular groove 345 and 445 making seal this passage between the two empty spaces.

The internal cavity 450 of the handle can receive for example a filament or other element intended to activate an anti-theft detector such as those commonly used in supermarkets.

The cover has a connection with the fiber holder 200 which is also waterproof thanks to the cooperation of the circumferential ribs 120 of the fiber holder 100 with the corresponding internal grooves of the cover 300.

This tight connection prevents paint from leaking out. inside the cover 300 and the handle 400.

However, such a flow, even if it entered the cover 300, does not would not come into contact with the painter's hand, since the cover 300 assembled to the handle 400 forms a waterproof envelope or barrier by elsewhere, between the fibers and the user's hand.

Solvent cannot rise from bunch 200 to the surface outside of the handle 400, through the tuft retaining means 200, as is the case with brushes and classic ferrule, where solvents cross the shell to the handle.

The fact that the fiber holder 100, joined to the cover 300 by its outline, also forms a tight barrier at this junction to facilitate the cleaning operation because no solvent is lodged above the tuft 200, as is the case with ordinary brush heads, where the solvent annoyingly comes out of the shell when we resume the application. We therefore safely clean the tuft 200 until its base, avoiding an accumulation of paint in this place.

This protection by sealing at the hood / fiber holder junction is provided by means invisible to the user.

The present handle 400 has, beyond its internal cavity 450, at opposite to the tuft of bristles 200, a recess 460 forming a passage transverse for hooking the brush which, in the plane of the handle, has an elongated section having substantially half the length handle 400. This transverse passage is also intended to receive a colored insert or bearing the brand name of a distributor of the product.

Claims (22)

Brush with a handle (400), a ferrule (300) / receptacle (100) assembly, linked to the handle (400), a layer of adhesive (112), inside the ferrule / receptacle assembly, and a homogeneous tuft of fibers (200), without incorporated shim, of which a first end placed in the ferrule (300) / receptacle (100) assembly is embedded in the layer of adhesive (112), while the second free end emerges outside the ferrule (300) / receptacle (100) assembly, and in which the tuft of fibers (200) has an at least substantially uniform density, over its entire length, of the end embedded in the layer of adhesive (112) up to the second free end, and suitable for allowing the fibers to travel in the ferrule (300) / receptacle (100) assembly, so that in use, the tuft of fibers (200) can be flexed from its section located in the ferrule (300) / receptacle (100) assembly, beyond the adhesive layer (112), characterized in that the receptacle (100, 400, 500) comprises arrangements of its side walls (110, 500) which form an anchor for the glue, these anchor arrangements (115) being o holes (115) passing through the side walls (110) of the receptacle (100). Brush according to claim 1, characterized in that the orifices (115) have a size chosen in relation to the quantity of adhesive (112, 412) introduced into the receptacle (100) so that the adhesive comes to clog the orifices (115) after the introduction of the hairs (200). Brush according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that it comprises an element (300) intended to extend on at least two sides of the receptacle (100), which carries internal fittings (330) forming an anchorage for the adhesive, these arrangements (330) being arranged so as to come opposite the orifices (115) of the receptacle (100). Brush according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the receptacle (100) and the ferrule (300) consist of two separate elements. Brush according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the receptacle (100) and the ferrule (300) are formed by the same element. Brush according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the adhesive layer (112, 412) is a layer hardened in one go in simultaneous contact with the fibers (200) and the bottom (105, 400) of the receptacle ( 100, 400, 500). Brush according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the internal lateral faces (110) of the receptacle (100) are configured so as to move away from the center of the receptacle (100) when one moves away from the bottom of the receptacle (100). Brush according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the side walls (110) of the receptacle (100) have a free edge slightly spaced from the edge of the tuft of fibers. Brush according to any one of the preceding claims, in combination with claim 7, characterized in that the internal lateral faces (110) of the receptacle (100) have at least one part which, going from the bottom of the receptacle (100) to a free edge of the side wall, includes: a first portion (116) at a given angle relative to the bottom, a second portion (117) oriented more obliquely than the first towards the outside of the receptacle (100).
