Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for evaluating a presentation layer data unit, which contains application-related messages encoded for at least one application process running in a Q3 platform according to a predetermined coding protocol, and which on the part of the Q3 platform via a on a Q3 interface between the Q3 -Platform and a partner-Q3 platform established association is received, at which
- the invention relates to a Q3 platform with at least one Q3 interface, on which associations to a partner Q3 platform can be established, with an application layer for application processes of the Q3 platform and with a presentation machine for receiving presentation layer data units, in which application-related messages for at least one of the application processes are coded according to a predefined coding protocol, via the associations and for evaluating these data units, the display engine being set up to
- Q3 platforms and Q3 interfaces are used in connection with a so-called control network according to various
- ITU International Telecommunications Association
- Modern telecommunications networks usually include a large number of switching and transmission technology components; these are referred to in the following as network elements (NE, ⁇ Network Elements') in accordance with the ITU recommendations mentioned.
- the standards M.3010 and M.3100 see an independent, information-processing control network (TMN, ⁇ Telecommunications Management) for the task of comprehensive overall control of the network elements of a telecommunications network with regard to operation, administration and maintenance (CAM, ⁇ operations, Administration and Maintenance ') Network '), to which, among other things, the network elements belong and which has access to the network elements via standardized interfaces and protocols, from which it receives control-relevant messages and which it controls.
- TTN information-processing control network
- An operation center provided in the control network allows the centralized OAM operational control of the telecommunications network, as well as the operation and monitoring of the control network by maintenance personnel via terminals.
- For switching centers of the telecommunications network it is provided to connect them directly to the operations center via a so-called Q3 interface.
- Network nodes of a control network equipped with one or more Q3 interfaces this includes in particular the mentioned switching centers with Q3 interface and the operation centers of the control network - are referred to as Q3 platforms.
- Another type of interface which is of no importance for the invention, for example, is the less complex, so-called Q2 interface provided for simpler network elements, for the indirect connection of network elements via intermediate points to the operation center.
- a general one is used on the Q3 interfaces in accordance with recommendations X.710 and X.711 of the ITU
- Control message service called CMIS (om on Management Information Service ') the exchange of messages and commands related to network control.
- CMIS Control message service
- a connection established between a control center and a network element in the control network is referred to as an association.
- the operations center can use an association to send commands from the CMIS service, so-called CMISE operations ( ⁇ Common Management Information Service Element '), to the network element; CMISE operations for several CMIS processes can be carried out on a single association.
- the message exchange of the association and in particular the CMIS service is based on the protocol layer architecture according to the OSI 7-layer model (see ITU recommendation X.200).
- OSI 7-layer model Only the top two layers of the OSI 7-layer model are affected by the invention, namely layer 6, the so-called presentation layer ( ⁇ presentation layer), and layer 7, the so-called application layer.
- the application layer contains the application-specific processes, in especially the CMISE operations, and uses the functions of the presentation layer for this.
- the presentation layer is used to produce a common coding for the Q3 platforms involved on the basis of the functions of layer 5, the so-called communication control layer ( ⁇ session layer '). Layers 1 to 5 are of course not affected by the invention.
- a Q3 platform provides a so-called PPM ( ⁇ Presentation-Layer Protocol Machine ') for the data exchange in the presentation layer.
- PPM Presentation-Layer Protocol Machine
- the message exchange between the PPMs of the Q3 platforms takes place in the form of so-called PPDUs
- the form of the PPDUs and the course of the message exchange by means of the PPDUs are determined on the basis of a predetermined coding protocol; according to the standards for the Q3 interface, the coding protocol is established the regulation of the so-called 'Basic Encoding Rules' according to ITU recommendation X.209 and a syntax based on the so-called ASN structure according to ITU recommendation X.208.
- PPDUs received via the association are (provided that no error occurs) checked and decoded in the PPM according to the coding protocol, from which the data for di e Application processes are determined and the application-related messages obtained in this way are passed on to the application layer, where they are forwarded to the associated application processes.
- the receiving PPM recognizes an invalid data unit (invalid PPDU ').
- ARP-PPDU 'Abnormal Release Provider PPDU'
- the deviation from the coding rules or the syntax in the PPDU relates to parameters that are required for processing in the presentation layer, or to user data, i.e. data from the application layer such as user data from CMISE Commands, limited.
- an attribute value "incompatible" with the coding protocol in the user data leads to a termination of the entire association in a single operation of the application layer.
- This termination of the connection also includes the termination of the execution of the other CMIS application processes that use this association expire, furthermore the loss of the messages and feedback transmitted via the association and last but not least also a delay for the transmission of further operations, since a new association has to be established for this purpose, which is the reason for the connection breakdown, in particular the causing operation on the Q3 -Interface or the parameter value triggering the termination cannot be determined from the messages exchanged according to the standards, namely the termination message and the ARP-PPDU.
- connection breakdown problems can arise not only in the application and / or presentation layer, but also in one of the underlying layers of the protocol layer architecture, e.g. in equipment (corresponding to layer 1, the transmission layer) or on the part of time monitoring (corresponding to layer 4) , the transport layer, or an underlying layer); General system problems, such as a temporary lack of resources, are also possible.
- a connection termination is usually time-consuming Analyzes by themselves.
- active * Q3 platform which is usually the operations center, queries are started for all aborted applications or operations, and if necessary, these are cleared and / or a repetition is initiated; log files must also be read out and evaluated because of the possible loss of notifications.
- the association via which the faulty data unit was exchanged including the messages triggering it, such as the aforementioned ARP-PPDU, can be stopped.
- the display machine is set up to abort the evaluation in the event of an error in the coding of the user data in a data unit and to forward this error to the application layer
- the application layer is set up to generate an error response indicating the coding error in the form of an application error message of the application process concerned and to send it to the partner Q3 platform on the basis of an error message relating to a user data coding error in a presentation layer data unit.
- an error message which indicates an invalid attribute value and a note on the erroneous attribute, generated and sent. It is also advantageous if, in the event that the data unit relates to the change in data objects and / or attributes and a coding error relating to the list of changes is determined, an error message is generated and sent which indicates the inadequate feasibility of at least one change and in which the parts of the news relating to this change (s) are marked accordingly.
- the data unit relates to the execution of at least one action by an application process and a coding error regarding the information of the action (s) to be carried out is determined, it is an error message which indicates an invalid attribute value and a reference to the has incorrect information and / or its type, is generated and sent.
- an error message is generated and sent which indicates the use of a parameter which was not agreed for the application process in relation to the data unit.
- An association was established on a Q3 interface between a Q3 platform and another Q3 platform, which is referred to below as a partner Q3 platform or partner platform for short.
- the association receives PPDUs from the Q3 platform.
- the Q3 platform will be a network element, while the partner platform sending the PPDUs is the operations center of the control network; other constellations are also conceivable, e.g. those in which an operations center is the (receiving) Q3 platform.
- the PPM of the Q3 platform which has received a PPDU, makes a distinction between the application data, d.s. the data content relating to a CMIS application, and the protocol structure data relating to the presentation layer.
- the application data d.s. the data content relating to a CMIS application
- the protocol structure data relating to the presentation layer.
- the decoding problems are treated analogously to the semantic errors recognized by a CMIS application.
- individual, incorrect attribute values can also be dealt with in the error message.
- the associated association is not terminated. It is irrelevant to the invention by what event the Errors have been generated since the invention only relates to the evaluation on the receiving Q3 platform and its reaction to an error in the received data unit.
- the detected decoding problem can consist, for example, of an incorrectly displayed or inadmissible value in an object model part of a CMIS application, such as an attribute value or a so-called 'ActionlnfoArgument'.
- the error is now on the associated CMISE
- a corresponding CMISE error message signals the partner platform.
- the application object models are loaded in the operating partner platforms, i.e. are to be regarded as input data with the known error possibilities.
- PPDU can be decoded for the presentation layer in accordance with the coding protocol
- the presentation of one or more of the application-related parameters in the PPDU violates the coding regulation, ie the 'Basic Encoding Rules'.
- a so-called 'MistypedArgument' error message is expediently used, which actually indicates the use of a parameter that was not agreed between the CMISE users.
- a “slight” error exactly one parameter is affected, and it is also possible to determine how it is not permitted.
- error messages can be used, for example of the type 'InvalidAttributeValue' or 'InvalidFilter', whereby additional parameters of the error message type used in each case can be used to transmit further, more precise information regarding the error found. If none of the error types defined in the standards correctly describes the error found, a
- error messages can be generated in the event of decoding problems: 1.
- An 'M_CREATE' operation (which relates to the creation of a data object in accordance with ITU standard X.710) is triggered in the event of a coding error regarding the attribute list (so-called 'AttributeList') of the data object to be generated rejected with an 'InvalidAttributValue' error message (which in itself indicates an invalid attribute value) with a reference to the incorrect attribute.
- a 'M_SET' operation (which, according to ITU standard X.710, affects the modification of data objects and / or attributes) is marked with a in the event of a coding error regarding elements of the modification list (so-called 'ModificationList')
- An 'M_SET' operation a 'MGET' operation (which, according to ITU standard X.710, concerns the request for attributes), an 'M_DELETE' operation (which, according to ITU standard X.710, the deletion of a data object ) or an 'M_ACTION' operation (which is intended for actions of Q3 applications in accordance with ITU standard X.710) will result in a coding error with regard to an application parameter rejected within the 'CMISE_FILTER' parameter with an 'InvalidFilter' error message (which in itself indicates an invalid filter operation).
- the procedure according to the invention prevents the association from being terminated if possible in the event of decoding problems.
- the type of error message and, if applicable, the content of the error message is used to specifically point out the incompatible value to the partner platform, thus making it easier to reliably identify the error.
- the invention makes it possible to use the error message to obtain information about the operations or application data that are actually causing the error. In these cases, there is no need to fear availability restrictions, and therefore no message loss. Furthermore, the effort for breaking the connection and establishing a new connection is avoided. It should be pointed out that the invention introduces a deviation of the task distribution between the application layer and the presentation layer from the protocol layer structure according to the ITU standard X.200, since individual tasks of the PPM are passed on to the CMIS applications.
- the invention violates the X.200 standard, and the treatment of decoding problems according to the invention can in principle only be performed by a Q3 platform that can support a protocol layer architecture that deviates from the X.200 standard.
- the task area of the presentation layer is reduced and these parts are shifted to the application layer.
- the application layer can react appropriately with comparatively little effort in the respective error cases.
- the following coding errors are distinguished: a) coding errors of the user parameters which can be answered with specific error messages; b) coding errors of the user parameters that can be answered with an unspecific error message; c) Coding errors due to problems in the presentation layer.
- the errors of cases a) and b) are treated according to the invention in the application layer (layer 7), whereas only in case c) the display layer (layer 6) handles the error and the connection is terminated.
- ITU recommendations X.200 and X.226 require that all three types of errors be dealt with in the presentation layer, which is why the connection must be terminated in all three cases.
- the invention to the partner platform which is connected to the Q3 platform implemented according to the invention, does not go beyond the ITU standards mentioned, in particular the X.710 and X.711 Demands.
- the “trivializing” handling of error cases according to the invention is transparent for the partner platform, since this can generally only be remedied by changing the object model on the part of the partner platform, with “minor” and “serious” errors having the same effect.
- the so-called 'M_SET' operation includes a list of modifications to user data. According to recommendation X.720, those modifications are to be carried out which are supported by the application, i.e. the 'M_SET' operation should at least partially be performed as much as possible. As a result of the variant, however, the 'M_SET' operation becomes complete in any case in relation to even one of the modifications in the event of a decoding problem, i.e. for all modifications, rejected, correct modifications being contained in the so-called 'SetListError' error message with the error status 'AccessDenied' in the sense of the coding protocol.
- the possible decoding problems relate to application parameters that are known to the Q3 platform, not unknown parameters.
- user parameters unknown to the Q3 platform could be ignored here without affecting the execution of the further modifications.
- the partial execution of the modifications contained in the 'M_SET' operation in the case of decoding problems of application parameters known in the Q3 platform can, under certain circumstances, lead to unintended changes. changes of the switching center with possibly not envisaged system states, or obscures the decoding problem.
- a correction of the object model should be initiated in the partner platform sending the operation.
