Definitions

  • the invention relates to a gas burner for domestic hob, and more specifically to a secondary air star burner.
  • secondary air burners In so-called secondary air burners, a partial premixing of fuel gas and air is carried out upstream of the flames and the additional air necessary for combustion is taken from the ambient air located in the vicinity of the flames.
  • the secondary air is the air taken in the vicinity of the flames as opposed to the so-called primary air premixed with gas upstream of the flames.
  • the gas burners of a domestic cooktop include a burner head located above a hearth plate.
  • the premix of air and gas (primary mixture) escapes through orifices located at the periphery of the burner head.
  • This type of burner generally requires that a free space is formed in the vicinity of the flames so as not to disturb the arrival of secondary air. If the secondary air does not arrive in the vicinity of the flames in sufficient quantity, the combustion is incomplete and produces toxic gases, in particular carbon monoxide (CO).
  • CO carbon monoxide
  • This free space imposes a minimum height between the hearth plate and the flames and between the flames and the bottom of the container. Sufficient free space also imposes simple shapes for the burner head which is generally circular.
  • star is here taken broadly. This is any burner comprising a burner head with several branches extending from a central body, these branches can take any form. In this type of burner, the branches are provided with primary mixture outlet orifices which are the outlets of the flames.
  • a so-called star gas burner is known from US 1,663,438, which discloses a gas burner comprising a head with a plurality of branches provided with orifices for the primary mixture.
  • the head is raised relative to the hearth plate to allow a secondary air supply flames from the orifices by convection of air from an opening in the hearth plate.
  • the invention solves these difficulties and proposes a star gas burner, whose height between the hearth plate and the level of the flames as well as between the level of the flames and the container can be reduced to a minimum, while ensuring a optimal supply of flames in secondary air.
  • the invention relates to a burner for a domestic hob, mounted on a hearth plate, comprising a burner head with several branches provided with orifices for the primary mixture, and extending from a central body, the the head being slightly raised relative to the hearth plate, the burner further comprising a passage for the primary mixture in communication with said head, and a secondary air passage independent of the passage for the primary mixture.
  • Said secondary air passage is effected by an opening in the hearth plate, positioned substantially under the central body of the head, and the burner comprises means for channeling the secondary air comprising a set of high slots, each high slot being positioned between two branches, at the level of the hearth plate, and having a substantially vertical wall, allowing between two branches, the substantially vertical flow of the secondary air flow, and a low slot under each branch, said low niche having an anti-overflow effect and being so high that it does not prevent the flow of secondary air under the branch, said channeling means being adapted to guide a secondary air supply from above flames from the burner ports.
  • the secondary air supply can be carried out both from below the flames, thanks to the secondary air which is flows under the branches, and from above the flames, thanks to the secondary air which is channeled between the branches.
  • FIG. 1 represents a partial view of an example of a burner according to the invention.
  • the burner 1 is mounted on a hearth plate 2. It comprises a burner head 3 with several branches 4 extending from a central body 5, and thus forming a star burner.
  • the shape of the central body, as well as that of the branches, and the number of these branches is arbitrary.
  • the central body has a substantially circular shape and the branches, of elongate shape, of which there are at least three, are evenly distributed along the circumference of the central body 5.
  • the branches are provided with orifices 6 for mixing primary.
  • the shape of these orifices defines the shape of the flames. In the example of Figure 1, these holes are rectangular in shape, giving flames 7 flat and wide.
  • the head may be formed of a single piece, or a first part forming a gas ramp and covered by a hat of substantially identical shape to that of the ramp and covering it.
  • the head 3 is slightly raised relative to the hearth plate 2, for example by means of legs 8 placed at the ends of the branches.
  • the burner further comprises conventionally a passage for the primary mixture in communication with the head for the primary mixing of the orifices. It may also include an ignition device, a flame detection device, not shown here, or other conventional means of operating a gas burner.
  • the burner further comprises a secondary air passage independent of the passage for the primary mixture and which is effected by an opening in the hob.
  • This opening is positioned substantially under the central body of the head to provide secondary air to the flames of all the branches.
  • the secondary air from the opening can flow under the branches, allowing a supply of secondary air flames from below. This flow is shown in Figure 1 by arrows fine line.
  • the burner further comprises means for channeling the secondary air between two branches, a substantially vertical flow of the air flow along the central body.
  • the Applicant has shown that the ducting of the secondary air flow along the central body, that is to say in the hollow between two branches, allows to feed the flames in secondary air by the top, allowing a better combustion.
  • the secondary air flow from above is materialized in the example of Figure 1 by thick arrows.
  • the secondary air supply of the flames is carried out both from below and from above. This effect is particularly advantageous in the case of wide and flat flames, as is the case in the example of Figure 1, because in this case, the secondary air has very little access to the sides of the flame .
  • the channeling means comprise for example a set of high slots 9, each top slot being positioned between two branches, on the hearth plate, and has a substantially vertical wall so that the secondary air from the opening is channeled substantially vertically.
  • the passage opening of the secondary air extends beyond the central body 5 of the burner, and leaves between the branches of the secondary air inlet passages not covered by said central body.
  • the channeling means for example the high slots previously described, are for example positioned directly at the edge of the opening, ensuring the channeling of the secondary air stream which is already substantially vertical output of the opening.
  • the flow effect of the secondary air over the flames can be reinforced by means of deflection which allow, between two branches, to fold the secondary air flow along the branches, substantially above holes.
  • the deviation of the secondary air can be ensured by the container itself when, in the case of a self-supporting burner, it can be placed directly on the head 3 of the burner. But when the container is not in place or is not supported directly by the head, it is advantageous to provide these means of deflection. They are formed for example, as shown in Figure 1, substantially horizontal fins 10, located in a plane above the orifices and which extend between the branches, from the central body 5 of the burner.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates means for channeling the burner according to the invention formed of a ring 11.
  • the ring is of circular shape, placed on the hearth plate 2, substantially centered with respect to the central body of the burner (not shown) .
  • the opening for the passage of the secondary air is substantially circular and extends beyond the central body of the burner, so that the ring can fit on the periphery of the the opening.
  • the passage for the primary mixture is effected by a collector 12 in communication with the central body and centered substantially in the opening.
  • the secondary air passage is therefore through the space 13 around the collector.
  • the collector being of substantially circular section, centered on the opening, the space 13 is homogeneous around the collector, and the secondary air is uniformly distributed around the collector along an axis substantially parallel to that of the burner.
  • the ring 11 is in this example formed of high slots 9 alternated with low slots 112.
  • the high slots are positioned between the branches (not shown), and allow a substantially vertical flow of secondary air between the branches, along the central body, as explained above.
  • the low slots are positioned under the branches. Their height is such that they do not prevent the flow of secondary air under the branch. Low slots have above all an anti-overflow function. Indeed, if liquid elements for example are reversed on the hearth plate, they will not be able to infiltrate into the opening of the plate, thanks to the presence of the high crenellations between the branches, and to that of the low crenellations, under the branches.
  • the flows of the secondary air are shown schematically by arrows.
  • the arrows in fine line represent the secondary air flow at the level of the low slots, under the branches, which will allow the supply of secondary air flames from below.
  • the thick arrows represent the secondary air flow at the high crenellations, between the branches, along the central body and which will allow the supply of secondary air flames from above.
  • FIG. 3 represents a view from above of an example of a burner according to the invention.
  • the burner 1 is here a star burner with five branches (4), distributed around a central body 5 of substantially circular shape.
  • the head, formed of the central body and branches, is slightly raised relative to the hearth plate by means of the feet 8, positioned at the ends of the branches.
  • the passage for the primary mixture is provided by a manifold 12, centered on an opening in the hearth plate 2 and leaving, all around, a space 13 for the passage of secondary air.
  • a ring 11, of the type described in FIG. 2 is positioned on the periphery of the opening. It includes high slots 9 between the branches, and low slots 112 under the branches.
  • the arrows in fine lines symbolize the flow of secondary air under the branches, for the supply of flames from below, while the arrows in thick lines symbolize the supply of flames in secondary air by the top.
  • means for deflecting secondary air are provided. They are formed here of a ring 14, positioned on the burner head, or directly integrated into the burner head, and whose outer diameter is greater than that of the central body, thus making it possible to fold the secondary air channeled through crenellations 9 of the ring 11 along the branches, substantially above the orifices.
  • Figure 4 shows in section, another example of ring 11 forming channeling means, and which further has an anti-overflow effect.
  • the ring has high slots 9, positioned between the legs (not shown), each with a substantially vertical wall to create a substantially vertical flow of the secondary air stream.
  • the passage for the primary mixture is provided by a manifold 12, centered in an opening in the hearth plate 2, and leaving, all around, a space 13 for the passage of secondary air.
  • the ring 11 does not have low slots. It is provided with a flange 113 which rests on the hearth plate 2.
  • the ring 11 is equipped with a gutter 114 which extends all around the opening, at a level lower than that of the hearth plate 2.
  • This gutter allows to collect any liquids or dirt that would come from the cooking containers, thus having an anti-overflow effect.
  • the space 13 for the passage of secondary air is therefore between the collector 12 and the trough 114, under the central body of the burner head (not shown).
  • Means are provided here to initially deflect the secondary air in a substantially homogeneous horizontal flow around the collector. It is for example a substantially horizontal ring 121 placed around the collector 12, slightly above the level of the hearth plate.
  • the secondary air stream (symbolized with arrows in thick lines) which meets the high slots 9 is then deflected vertically, forming, between the branches of the burner, the substantially vertical flow along the central body (not shown).
  • the secondary air stream (symbolized with fine arrows) that does not meet the slots 9 forms the substantially horizontal flow that passes under the branches.
  • the channel 114 is in this example integral with the ring 11. It could be an independent piece, placed around the opening in the hearth plate.
  • the invention is not limited to the examples described above.
  • it applies to any form of secondary air star burner and allows, in a simple manner, a very good supply of secondary air flames, regardless of the shape of these flames.
