Definitions
- the present invention relates to a gas lighter with rock and wheel ignition, fitted with a safety intended, in particular but not exclusively, to prevent people from using such a lighter normally unable to appreciate the potential danger of a flame, such as children.
- a conventional disposable lighter includes a body containing a tank of pressurized liquefied gas, a lever control acting on a gas passage valve and of which a flat end constitutes the pusher on which will come press a user's finger, a scroll wheel, a stone lighter in contact with the thumbwheel and a regulator transforming liquefied gas into gas which can escape through the burner.
- the wheel is usually surrounded by hand and other by coaches, toothed, grooved or grooved to avoid slippage, larger in diameter than that of the wheel which reduce the effort required for rotation of the latter and avoid direct hand contact with the wheel always loaded with dust.
- the ignition of the lighter requires two conditions, namely the simultaneous presence, in the same area, above the burner, sparks and expanded gas.
- Many "child-resistant” safety measures have already been proposed and, for some, applied, which aim to inhibit, release some gas.
- a second type of security aims to prevent rotation of the wheel as long as a previous operation has not been performed, the movement of the pusher remaining free. he can either a movement of the coaches and the wheel in the forward direction, either by a vertical support on the assembly coaches-wheel which allows a clutch thereof.
- a guard is provided elastically deformable, covering part of the wheel, surrounded by coaches. This deformable element is linked to the body of the lighter. Sufficient pressure (which cannot generally not apply children) should be exercised on the guard to deform it before it can rotate the dial and produce sparks. A finger or a brake is provided to prevent the dial from turning when the pusher is depressed which would allow ignition in using two hands.
- the coaches are shaped so that the wheel can only be driven under the action of a inch of relatively large dimension which is not the case of thumbs of children who cannot rotate the wheel to produce sparks, the gas outlet remaining possible at any time.
- the object of the present invention is to overcome the disadvantages of known devices and to propose a solution to the child safety problem, by blocking the wheel.
- the safety device for a lighter comprising a body containing a gas tank liquefied under pressure, a lever forming, in its part back a pusher on which the thumb can come to rest of a user, acting on a gas passage valve connected to a burner, a thumb wheel, a lighter stone contact with the wheel, the wheel being surrounded on the side and other by coaches, the assembly being mounted pivoting around an axis supported in a yoke projection on the upper part of the lighter body and partially surrounded by a cover, is characterized in that that the lighter has rotation blocking means of the wheel cooperating with at least one coach.
- said blocking means are carried either by the cover of protection, either by the mounting clevis of the axis of the unit ignition constituted by the wheel and its coaches, either by the axis of the ignition unit, or by the push lever or by a wheel cover forming a keep.
- the axis of the igniter assembly is movable between two positions, one in which the coaches and the wheel are blocked and the other in which the coaches and, consequently, the wheel, are free to turn, which allows the generation of sparks.
- the blocking of the coaches is carried out using a wheel cover partially surrounding it.
- the idea on which the invention is based consists in blocking the wheel to prevent sparks from forming pusher either pressed or not to ensure better resistance to illicit use.
- the lighter body 1 comprising a liquefied gas tank (not shown) is provided, at its upper part, as known per se, of a set ignition 23 rotatably mounted on the body 1 of the lighter, including a wheel 2 integral in rotation with coaches 3 (of which only one appears in the figure), the whole being journalled in the body of the lighter by means of an axis 4 resting in a yoke 4a.
- This set is partially covered by a cover 5 which extends from the front of the lighter, on the right of the figure, to the back of the wheel-coaches set that it only covers part.
- the periphery of the wheel 2 is always in contact with a cylindrical stone 7 which is pressed towards the top by a spring 71 in a cylindrical housing 6 formed in the body 1 of the lighter.
- the rotation of the wheel in the sinistrorsum direction causes the projection sparks above the burner 8.
- the burner 8 can be raised upwards to open a exhaust valve (not shown) of the gas contained in the tank included in the body 1 of the figure under the action of a lever 9 whose rear end constitutes a pusher 10 on the surface of which can rest a finger, usually the thumb, of a user.
- Leverage 9 is pivotally mounted on the body 1 of the lighter by via semi-axes 11, in the extension one on the other, journalled in yoke 4a, on both sides of the stone 7.
- the semi-axes 11 are located below axis 4 of the dial 2.
- the push-button is recalled at permanently upwards (position it occupies in the figure 1) by a spring 12 whose lower end rests on the bottom of a lighter cavity.
- Around the burner can be arranged a spring (not shown) allowing, as known per se, to delay the release of gas when the lever 9 begins its upward movement.
- Others valve configurations can, of course, be used without departing from the scope of the invention.
- Figures 1 to 3 show a first embodiment using a wheel cover during the different operating steps.
- the shape of the wheel cover is in this type of embodiment shown in figure 19.
- the axis 4 of the igniter assembly 23 is slidably mounted in two oblong lights 200 provided in the yoke 4a in protrusion above the body 1 of the lighter, at the part superior of it.
- the spring 71 arranged below of stone 7 and which normally aims pressing the stone on the wheel moves the axis 4 thereof against the top 202 of the oblong light 200.
- Figure 1 the position which is shown in Figure 1 in which the lighter is in the extinct or quiescent state.
- the edge 143 of the plate 142 is applied between two teeth 30 of the coaches 3 which avoids any rotation of the wheel and, consequently, the production of sparks. And if we press the button, the wheel remains blocked.
- the lighter is in the "ready” position to ignition which will be obtained by rotation of the assembly igniter 23 and immediate press on pusher 10. This position is obtained by pressing down on the figure on the igniter assembly 23 which bears against the edge 203 lights 200 of which only one appears on the figures.
- the cover 14 remains in its initial position. It results that the teeth 30 of the coach 3 escape the edge front 143 of plate 142 and that thumb wheel 2 can be driven in rotation.
- axis 4 of the wheel is mounted sliding in two grooves 200, one on each side of the yoke, between a high position 202 and a low position 203.
- the spring 71 of the stone pushes, through this one, the axis 4 against the upper end 202 of the groove 200.
- groove 200 is preferably slightly inclined from the vertical. The rotation of the wheel must be prohibited in this position.
- FIG 7 which is a view from above of a lighter according to the invention, there is shown a cover 5 provided with two legs 51 symmetrical with respect to the axis of the lighter. But a single leg may be sufficient.
- axis 4 is brought up towards the top of the groove 200 under the action of spring 71. That is to say that pressing button 10 must be carried out between rotation of the wheel 2 by the coaches 3 and the reminder towards the top of axis 4.
- Figure 10 is a section along line X-X of Figure 8 on which the notch 51 and the teeth appear better inner 32 of the crown 31 which cooperates with the notch 51 when axis 4 is in the high position which corresponds to the Figure 8 rest position.
- Figures 11 and 12 are vertical sections through the plane of symmetry of the lighter and Figure 13 a vertical section along line XIII-XIII of Figure 11. They represent another embodiment with double coaches crown 30,31 and an axis 4 of the ignition assembly 23 mounted sliding in a rectilinear groove 200 which is preferably inclined to the vertical.
- the wheel lock is obtained by range of a leg or the like against the teeth of the crown internal 31.
- the tab or notch 52 is molded in the body of the lighter, inside the fork 4a and projecting towards the inside of the lighter.
- tab 52 blocks the teeth of the crown 31 whereas, when the assembly 23 has lowered as shown in figure 12, there is more contact and the assembly 23 can rotate.
- the cover 5 is itself permanently snapped, although it is removable, using lugs 53.
- FIG. 14 shows another method of blocking the wheel using a yoke 4a having a groove rectilinear 200.
- a rectilinear groove 200 has been shown so as not to unnecessarily overload the drawing.
- This groove, formed in the yoke 4a remains, although heard fixed with respect to the body 1 of the lighter when the ignition assembly 23 slides down.
- This groove has a notch 201 at its upper part.
- axis 41 is no longer circular, as before but has, on at least one of its sides, a cavity 42 of which the shape corresponds to that of notch 201.
- the notch 201 is provided in the upper part 202 of the rectilinear groove 200.
- axis 41 has a cross section so that there are four cavities 42.
- the stone spring pushes towards the top the ignition assembly 23 which as shown in Figure 18 prevents the rotation of the wheel 2, the rotation of the assembly 23 being blocked by bearing of the notch 201 in one of the cavities 42.
- this support causes the compression of the spring 71 of the stone 7 and the lowering of axis 41 below notch 201 so that the axis 41 can rotate and drive the wheel.
- the rotation of the thumbwheel is blocked, the unlocking being obtained by a support on the ignition assembly 23 which requires pressure determined, which only adults can exercise, followed by the rotation of the thumb wheel and pressing the push-button 10.
- the unlocking comes from a level variation of axis 4 of the thumbwheel relative to body of the lighter. The movements of the pusher and the gas exhaust remain free.
- FIGS. 16 to 18 make it possible to obtain this result and no longer requires an ignition assembly movable but again to a wheel cover 14.
- the wheel cover 14 is extends forward by a flat or shaped plate 142 such as that shown in the Figure 19, pressing against the lower surface of the cover 5 on which it can slide between two positions corresponding to the switch-off and switch-on positions of the lighter, the front edge 147 of the plate 142 still remaining below the lower surface of the cover 5.
- the second branch 141 of the wheel cover is included in a slot transverse of the lever 9, in which its end lower is fixed.
- a projection 143 is provided in the rear part of the plate 142. In the off position or of rest, the projection 143 is outside the periphery of the teeth 30 of the coaches 3. The coaches and consequently the wheel 2 which is integral with these in rotation can turn. Note that, in this position, the zone 30a teeth 30 is accessible.
- Figure 18 is a top view of a lighter in the embodiment of FIGS. 16 and 17. It can be seen that the wheel cover 14 surrounds wheel 2 and that plate 142 has a shape similar to that of the body of the lighter, the rear edge 143 of the plate penetrating between two teeth 30 coaches 3.
- the wheel cover is fixed by one of its ends of the rear side of the pusher and is extended forward by a flat surface that can slide against the underside of the hood. Pressing the pusher thus causes displacement towards the rear of the wheel cover which rises at the coaches. This displacement also causes dog clutching from the rear edge 143 of the face 142 with at least one of the coaches which blocks the wheel when the pusher is pressed. In the extinction or rest position, the projection 143 is outside the periphery of the teeth 30 of coaches 3. The coaches and consequently the wheel 2 which is integral with these in rotation can rotate. We note that, in this position, the area 30a of the teeth 30 is accessible.
- the wheel cover 14 whose periphery extends over approximately 270 ° is fixed by one of its ends around the wheel 2 on the front lever 9 so that when the lighter is in position rest or extinction, the teeth 30a of the trainers are accessible and that, when support is exerted on the push button, they are no longer accessible, the wheel cover 14 coming at the same level (or higher) than their peripheries in the rear region of the coaches.
- This difference in relative position of the wheel cover 14 and of coaches 3 comes from the fact that when pressing on the button, the pivot centers of the button lever and of the wheel cover are not the same.
- Figure 22 shows in perspective a wheel cover ring 14 according to the invention.
- the front part 15 of the wheel cover 14 extends over a width substantially equal to the overall width of the two coaches and has a slot 17 allowing the passage of sparks.
- This front part continues with a narrower portion 18 whose width is substantially equal to that of the dial and ends with one end 16.
- the edge of part 15 can be fixed by any means in the front part of the lever 9 and, for example, by snap-fitting or overmolding in bosses 19.
- the rigid wheel cover is fixed by its end front, it can be fixed by its two front ends and rear respectively on the front and rear of the lever relative to the wheel, the wheel cover moving like the push lever.
