Hierdurch wird die Handhabung des Kastens vereinheitlicht, da die Trennung von Oberkasten und Unterkasten und das Öffnen des Deckels jeweils durch Betätigen einer Drucktaste bewirkt wird. Bei dieser Ausgestaltung können die Drucktaste zum Lösen des Deckelverschlusses und die Drucktaste zum Lösen des den Unterkasten haltenden Verschlusses jeweils am Rand des Kastens nebeneinander angeordnet sein, oder die eine Drucktaste kann am Oberkasten und die andere Drucktaste am Unterkasten angeordnet sein. Im zweiten Fall können vorzugsweise beide Drucktasten seitlich versetzt übereinander angeordnet sein. Hierdurch ergeben sich bauliche Vorteile für die Gestaltung der Verschlüsse. Weiterhin kann vorgesehen sein, daß eine Drucktaste, ihr Steg und der Oberkasten oder Unterkasten einstückig hergestellt sind. Die Drucktasten sind vorzugsweise auf der dem Gerach abgekehrten. Das Öffnen, des Deckels 2 kann zusätzlich dadurch begünstigt werden, daß der Deckel 2 beim Schließen geringfügig elastisch verformt wird und in diesem verformten Zustand durch den Verschluß festgehalten wird. Wird der Verschluß gelöst, so springt der Deckel 2 in seine Ausgangsform zurück, wobei er die Raste 35 soweit anhebt, daß diese beim Loslassen der Drucktaste 8 nicht mehr in die Öffnung 18 eindringen kann. Auf diese Weise ist das Öffnen des Deckels 2 auch nach dem Loslassen der zuvor niedergedrückten Drucktaste 8 möglich. Beim Schließen des Deckels ist ein Betätigen der Drucktaste 8 nicht erforderlich. A box, in particular a paint box, with a top box member (1) including an upwardly open compartment (20) and a lid (2) for closing the compartment (20), and with a bottom box member (3) having an upwardly open compartment (30), said top box member (1) being adapted for seating engagement of its underside with the bottom box member (3) in a position that closes the compartment (30) of the bottom box member (3) and is defined by locators making positive interfitting engagement, characterized in that the top box member (1) is retainable on the bottom box member (3) by a holding device comprising engageable and disengageable holding elements (33, 43) and by a releasable closure (19) maintaining the holding elements in relative engagement in the closed position, said closure (19) being releasable by pressing down on a pushbutton (9) arranged on the top box member (1) or on the bottom box member (3).
