  • Contact arm 50 is narrower than U-shaped joint 40 whereby the U-shaped joint provides a measure of sturdiness and reliability for the terminal, while narrower contact arm 50 provides more flexibility or resiliency for the arm.
  • Figure 3 shows how flanges 42a of base 42 of each terminal 22 are anchored within the overmolded plastic material of mounting bar 32 of housing 20.
  • Contact arm 50 of the terminal also can be seen disposed within one of the grooves 34 in the top of the mounting bar.
  • housing 20 has at least one mounting post 54 for insertion into a mounting hole 56 in printed circuit board 16.
  • Figure 4 shows how contact 50 of one of the terminals 22 projects back over base 42 of the terminal and over mounting bar 32 of the housing within one of the grooves 34 in the top of the mounting bar. This locates the downwardly bowed contact portion 52 of the terminal above a respective one of the circuit traces 18 on the printed circuit board.
  • Figure 5 shows IC card 12 about to be inserted into opening 26 in housing 20 of connector 10, in the direction of arrow "A".
  • a mouth 58 of the opening is provided at the front edge of housing 20 for receiving the IC card.
  • a plurality of circuit pads 60 are provided on the top surface of the card along a leading edge 62 thereof for engaging downwardly bowed contact portions 52 of terminals 22. Therefore, the terminals are effective to electrically connect circuit pads 60 on the IC card with circuit traces 18 (Fig. 4) on top planar surface 14 of printed circuit board 16.
  • Figure 6 shows IC card 12 fully inserted in the direction of arrow "A" into opening 26 of housing 20 of connector 10.
  • Contact pads 60 now can be seen in engagement with contact portions 52 of terminals 22.
  • securing tabs 64 (Fig. 1) which project outwardly from the sides of housing 20 for securement, as by soldering, to metal securing pads 66 on top planar surface 14 of printed circuit board 16.
  • Figure 3 shows that securing tabs 64 are planar and include upwardly turned flanges 64a which are overmolded within housing 20 to anchor the securing tabs to the housing.
  • These securing tabs can be soldered to securing pads 66 at the same time or during the same soldering process when surface mount sections 46 of terminals 22 are soldering to circuit traces 18 of the printed circuit board.

Claims (19)

  1. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) zum Verbinden einer elektronischen Komponente wie etwa einer IC-Karte (12) auf einer ebenen Oberfläche einer gedruckten Schaltungsplatte (16), welche Schaltungsspuren aufweist, umfassend:
    ein dielektrisches Gehäuse (20), in dem eine Mehrzahl von elektrischen Anschlusskontakten (22) montiert ist,
       wobei das Gehäuse (20) eine Unterseite (24) zur Montage auf der gedruckten Schaltungsplatte (16), eine Öffnung (26) zur Aufnahme der IC-Karte (12) sowie eine Montageschiene 32 entlang einer Seite der Öffnung (26) aufweist, und
       wobei jeder Anschlusskontakt (22) eine Basis (42) aufweist, die auf der Montageschiene (32) des Gehäuses (20) montiert ist,
    einen Tragarm (44), der sich von der Basis (42) aus erstreckt, und
    einen Kontaktarm (50), der an einer U-förmigen Verbindungsstelle (40) mit dem Tragarm (44) verbunden ist und sich über dem Tragarm (44) zurück erstreckt und in einem Kontaktabschnitt (52) an der Öffnung (26) in dem Gehäuse endet, zur elektrischen Verbindung mit der IC-Karte (12);
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
       der Tragarm (44) einen Oberflächenmontageabschnitt (46) zur elektrischen Verbindung mit einer Schaltungsspur auf der gedruckten Schaltungsplatte (16) aufweist.
  2. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach Anspruch 1,
    bei welchem ein Fenster (28) in einer oberen Wandung (30) des Gehäuses (20) die Öffnung (26) freilegt.
  3. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach Anspruch 2,
    bei welchem der Kontaktabschnitt (52) durch das Fenster (28) hindurch nach unten gebogen ist.
  4. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3,
    welcher einen oberflächenmontierten elektrischen Verbinder mit niedrigem Profil darstellt.
  5. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4,
    bei welchem das dielektrische Gehäuse (20) allgemein flach ist.
  6. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5,
    bei welchem das dielektrische Gehäuse (20) um die Mehrzahl der elektrischen Anschlusskontakte (22) herum übergegossen ist.
  7. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6,
    bei welchem die Basis (42) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) in der Montageschiene (32) des Gehäuses (20) übergossen ist.
  8. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7,
    bei welchem die elektrischen Anschlusskontakte (22) gestanzt und geformt sind.
  9. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8,
    bei welchem der Oberflächenmontageabschnitt (46) allgemein eben ist, für die elektrische Verbindung mit einer Schaltungsspur auf der ebenen Oberfläche (14) der gedruckten Schaltungsplatte (16).
  10. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9,
    bei welchem der Oberflächenmontageabschnitt (46) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) breiter als der Tragarm (44) desselben ist.
  11. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 10,
    bei welchem die Basis (42) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) allgemein eben ist und Flanschabschnitte (42a) aufweist, die aus der Ebene der Basis (42) herausgebogen sind, um die Basis in der Montageschiene (32) des Gehäuses (20) zu verankern.
  12. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bi 11,
    bei welchem die Basis (42) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) allgemein koplanar mit der Unterseite (24) des Gehäuses (20) ist.
  13. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 12,
    bei welchem der Tragarm (44) und der Oberflächenmontageabschnitt (46) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) koplanar mit der Basis (42) desselben und der Unterseite (24) des Gehäuses (20) sind.
  14. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 13,
    bei welchem die Montageschiene (32) des Gehäuses (20) eine äußere Seite (32a) aufweist, die einen Außenrand des Gehäuses bildet, sowie eine innere Seite (32b), die einen Innenrand der Öffnung (26) in dem Gehäuse (20) bildet.
  15. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 14,
    bei welchem der Tragarm (44), der Oberflächenmontageabschnitt (46) und die U-förmige Verbindungsstelle (40) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) außenseitig der äußeren Seite (32a) der Montageschiene angeordnet sind; der Kontaktarm (50) sich über die Montageschiene (32) erstreckt; und der Kontaktabschnitt (52) innenseitig der inneren Seite (32b) der Montageschiene (32) angeordnet ist.
  16. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 15,
    bei welchem die Montageschiene (32) des Gehäuses (20) eine Oberseite mit einer Mehrzahl von Nuten (34) aufweist, um die Kontaktarme (50) der Anschlusskontakte (22) unterzubringen.
  17. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 16,
    bei welchem der Kontaktarm (50) jedes Anschlusskontakts (22) schmaler als die U-förmige Verbindungsstelle (40) desselben ist.
  18. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 17,
    bei welchem der Kontaktabschnitt (52) jedes Anschlusskontakts in Richtung der Öffnung (26) gebogen ist, sodass er eine abgerundete Oberfläche zur Anlage an der IC-Karte darbietet.
  19. Oberflächenmontierter elektrischer Verbinder (10) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 18,
    der mindestens einen Sicherungslappen (64) aufweist, der in dem Gehäuse (20) entfernt von den Anschlusskontakten (22) übergossen ist und einen Sicherungsabschnitt zur Verbindung mit der gedruckten Schaltungsplatte (16) aufweist.
