Improved toughness behaviour of a cutting insert can be obtained by increasing the WC grain size and/or by raising the overall binder phase content, but such changes will simultaneously result in significant loss of the plastic deformation resistance.
  • a coated cemented carbide insert with a 10-30 ⁇ m, thick essentially gamma phase free and binder phase enriched surface zone with an average binder phase content (by volume) in the range 1.2-2.0 times the bulk binder phase content.

  • the inserts from A and C were tested in a three turning operations with high toughness demands due to interrupted cuts.
  • the inserts were run until breakage of the edge.
  • the insert style SNMG120412-PR was used.
  • Examples 2, 3 and 4 show that the inserts A according to the invention exhibit much better toughness in combination with somewhat better plastic deformation resistance in comparison to the inserts B and C according to prior art.

Claims (7)

  1. Plaquette d'outil de coupe pour l'usinage de l'acier, comprenant un corps en carbure cémenté et un revêtement, dans laquelle le corps comprend du WC ayant une taille moyenne de grain entre 1,0 et 4,0 µm, 5 à 12 % en poids de Co et 3 à 11 % en poids de carbures cubiques des métaux Ta, Ti et W, avec une quantité de Nb inférieure ou égale à 0,1 % en poids, et une teneur en azote comprise entre 0,6 et 2 % du poids des éléments Ti et Ta,
       le rapport Ta/Ti est de 2,0 à 3,0, la phase de liant Co est fortement alliée avec W avec un rapport CW de 0,80 à 0,85 et
       le corps de carbure cémenté comporte une zone de surface enrichie sensiblement exempte de phase gamma d'une épaisseur de 10 à 30 µm avec une teneur en phase de liant, en volume, de 1,2 à 2 fois la teneur en phase de liant de la masse.
  2. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon la revendication 1, caractérisée par le fait que la teneur en Co est dans la plage allant de 9 à 11% en poids.
  3. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon l'une des revendications 1 et 2, caractérisée par le fait que la teneur en TiC et TaC est dans la plage allant de 7 à 10 % en poids.
  4. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, caractérisée par le fait que le revêtement comprend une couche TiCN en colonne de 3 à 12 µm suivie par une couche Al2O3 de 1 à 8 µm d'épaisseur.
  5. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisée par le fait que la couche Al2O3 est du Al2O3-κ.
  6. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon l'une quelconque des revendications 4 et 5, caractérisée par le fait que la couche la plus externe est du TiN.
  7. Plaquette d'outil de coupe selon les revendications précédentes, caractérisée par le fait que la couche TiN dans la ligne d'arête est enlevée par brossage ou soufflage.
