Abstract

Device for closing a door (1), in particular a door comprised of glass, in which a tube (2) extends across almost the full height of the door (1), said tube being situated at some distance from the door and being connected to it by means of at least two connecting members (4). A spagnolet fastener (16) has been mounted in the tube and can be actuated by means of a lock (21) located in a support structure (22) extending through the door (1) from the tube (2). At the other side of the door than where the tube is located, the door is provided with a rod (3) serving as handle, which rod can have the same length as the tube and is mounted at some distance from the door by means of spacer members (5). The spacer members are coupled to the connecting members and the support structure (22) is connected to the rod as well. <IMAGE>

Description

  • The invention relates to a device for closing a door, in particular a door composed of glass as this is described in the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such a door is known from US 3 633 389. In case of this door the spagnolet fastener is mounted almost directly on the door and is enclosed by a profile, a further profile being mounted on the other side of the door. The profiles must be provided with handles and the outer profile contains a lock.
  • By this the outwardly moving parts of the spagnolet fastener will be situated in a relatively readily accessible location, namely close to the door. Further the view through the door is hindered by the presence of the profiles, which results in a less attractive esthetic appearance.
  • The object of the invention is to remove these disadvantages and this is obtained by applying the features according to the characterizing portion of claim 1.
  • So the tube, in which the spagnolet fastener is mounted, is located at some distance from the door. Generally speaking, this will be the inner side of the door, so that the spagnolet fastener will not be readily accessible from the outside.
  • In particular, the connecting members will be located near the lower edge and the upper edge of the door and the support structure in which the lock is incorporated, will be situated between both connecting members.
  • This has the advantage, that the door is stiffened by the tube, and the tube can at the same time serve as a handle when opening or closing the door from the side concerned.
  • For opening or closing the door from the other side than where the tube is located, a relatively short handle can be mounted on the door.
  • In particular, however, the features will be used as indicated in the characterizing portion of claim 3.
  • By mounting the rod, which will substantially have the same dimensions as the tube in which the spagnolet fastener is located, the appearance of the entirety is made more attractive. This is partly because the connecting and spacer members of the tube and the rod, respectively, will be aligned and will almost merge into one another, with only the glass of the door in between. Again, the rod will contribute to the stiffening of the door. The rod can be tubular as well.
  • The invention is further explained by way of an embodiment, shown in the drawing, in which:
  • Fig. 1 shows a vertical section across a door, the tube and rod connected to it, the connecting members between them and the like; and
  • Fig. 2 shows a side view of a portion of Fig. 1.
  • Fig. 1 shows a door 1 comprised of glass, a tube 2 being connected to one side of said door and a rod 3, which could also be tubular, being connected to the other side of said door. For connecting the tube 2 and the rod 3 to the door 1, the tube 2 is provided with connecting members 4 and the rod 3 is provided with spacer members 5.
  • A spacer member 5 is represented by a bush 6 welded to the rod 3, a plug 7 being fixed in said bush and being provided with screw thread 8. A screw 10 being screwed into the plug 7 extends through a bore 9 in the door 1 and serves for pressing the flange edge of a bush 11 against said door. Between the flange edge of said bush 11 and the door 1 and likewise between the plug 7 and the door, rings 12 of a somewhat flexible material can be mounted to prevent occurrence of excessive point loads on the material of the door.
  • The tube 2 is provided with a sleeve 13 having a bush 14 therein, which can be matingly slid onto the bush 11 and can be fixed on it by means of clamping screws 15 which were screwed into the bush 14 through a bore not further indicated in the sleeve 13. In this way, the tube 2 and the rod 3 are connected to the door 1.
  • A spagnolet fastener 16 extends through the tube 2, the end rods 17 of said fastener being directed through bushes 18 located in plugs 19, mounted in the ends of said tube 2. The bushes 18 and the plugs 19 have been fixed in the tube 2 in a way not further indicated. The bushes 18 can be made of plastic, for example, in order to render the friction between the bushes and end rods 17 as low as possible.
  • The end rods 17 can be adjusted in relation to the centre piece 20 of the spagnolet fastener 16 by means of screw thread, so that they can protrude from the tube 2 across the desired length. The centre piece 20 can be actuated by means of a profile cylinder 21, which is located in the support structure 22 and is generally designed such, that actuation of the spagnolet fastener can take place from both sides of the door 1 by means of a key.
  • To that end, the rod 3 is provided with a bush 23 having a plug 24 therein, into which screws 25 can be screwed for pressing an almost corresponding plug 26 against the door 1. Again, between the plugs 24 and 26 and the door 1, rings 27 of a somewhat resilient material will be received. A bush 28 has been slid across the plug 26, the bush being connected to the tube 2 and being fixed on the plug by clamping screws not further indicated, approximately in the way as described above concerning the sleeve 13 and the bush 11.
  • The plugs 24 and 26 project partly into the opening 29, made in the door 1, and the screws 25 will also pass through said opening.
  • Both parts of a cylinder lock 21 coupled to each other can be incorporated in the plugs 24 and 26, in which one part of said lock can be fixed by means of a screw 30. The lock 21, and the spagnolet fastener 16 with it, can be operated from both sides of the door 1 with a key in the known way.
  • It will be obvious, that only one possible embodiment of a device according to the invention has been illustrated in the drawing and described above and that many changes can be made without being beyond the inventive idea, as it has been indicated in the claims.
