Abstract

The invention relates to a multi-chamber container comprising cups (1.1, 1.2) which are covered by a common covering film (1.4). The cups are separated from one another by a connecting element (1.5)on which the covering film is sealed in such a way that, when applying pressure on one of the cups, this cup is interconnected to one or more adjacent cups by removing the covering film from said connecting element. The sealing strength on the common edge, over which the covering film and cups are interconnected, is selected such that it is high enough to prevent the connection between the covering film and the cups from detaching in the edge area due to this pressure. This solution establishes many examples for application especially with respect to the type and composition of the media accommodated in one of the cups. This can concern the use of liquid media. Applicators of different types, especially of types which expand when moistened, can be accommodated in the cups so that the multi-chamber container can also, for example, be directly used for the transdermal application of liquid active substances.

Description

Particularly in the fields of pharmacy and cosmetics - but also beyond - there are applications in which two or more substances, usually product components, are only brought together and mixed immediately before use or an absorbent carrier material is to be mixed with a soaking medium.

This on-site activation is usually necessary because the components to be brought together in the mixed or soaked state are not chemically stable or do not have the required shelf life in this state.

Stand der TechnikState of the art

There are a number of suggestions for creating a multi-chamber packaging which, on the one hand, keeps the components cleanly separated up to the point in time at which they are to be used, and which should enable them to be brought together (merged) or mixed and subsequently used in a clear and practical manner.

Die WO-A-84 02892 zeigt eine 2-Kammer-Verpackung, bei der eine erste Kammer ein erstes Medium und eine zweite Kammer ein zweites Medium enthält, mit einem zwei mittels eines Stegs getrennten Näpfen aufweisenden Tiefziehteil, die von einem gemeinsamen Rand umgeben sind, und mit einer Deckfolie, die mit dem Steg zumindest teilweise verbunden ist, derart, dass bei Anwendung von Druck auf eine der Kammern die Verbindung zwischen den beiden Kammern durch Ablösen der Deckfolie vom Steg hergestellt wird, wobei der Rand diesem Druck standhält.WO-A-84 02892 shows a two-chamber packaging, in which a first chamber contains a first medium and a second chamber contains a second medium, with a deep-drawn part which has two cups separated by a web and which are surrounded by a common edge , and with a cover film which is at least partially connected to the web, such that when pressure is applied to one of the chambers, the connection between the two chambers is established by detaching the cover film from the web, the edge withstanding this pressure.

Thermolacquer is used here to connect the deep-drawn part and the cover film, which is used in two qualities: in the edge area with strong adhesive effect, in the web area with weak adhesive effect.

The positioning and application of the two thermal lacquers requires considerable precision, both thermal lacquers have to meet the physical and possibly chemical requirements (e.g. product compatibility) specified by the package contents.

Other solutions provide to achieve a "predetermined breaking point" in the area of the connecting web between the two chambers by inserting a peel strip (EP-A-0 378 183), or also in the form of a foam-like intermediate layer (US-A-4 534 509).

These solutions require additional materials, which also have to meet content-specific requirements, particularly in chemical terms, and the application of which is complex.

Beschreibung der AusführungsbeispieleDescription of the embodiments

The invention is based on a thermoformed pack which, according to the first exemplary embodiment (FIG. 1), is equipped with at least two cups 1.1 + 1.2 in which the components to be brought together are located. The thermoformed pack is made from a thermoplastic thermoformed part 1.3 and a sealed cover film 1.4, which are equipped with a sealing medium, which enables a precisely defined sealing strength by changing the sealing parameters temperature / pressure / sealing time. In the area of a web 1.5, peelable sealing is carried out between the bowls 1.1 and 1.2 and around the bowls 1.1 and 1.2 - or depending on the selected opening variant for removing the product - at least partially a tight seal 1.6. This permanent sealing 1.6 can be done both flat and - as shown here - in line form.

In this first exemplary embodiment, activation takes place by manual pressure, for example on the bowl 1.2. This removes the defined peel seal in the area of web 1.5 and the components in bowl 1.1 and 1.2 run into one another. By mutual pressure on the bowls 1.1 and 1.2, a mixing effect can be achieved.

To remove the activated product, a predetermined breaking point 1.7 is opened (cut or kinked) and the end product can be removed through the channel 1.8 connected to the bowl 1.1. 1 is suitable for use with liquid or pasty components, or when it comes to dissolving powder or granules or soluble solids - such as a tablet - in a pasty or liquid medium.

The relevant components - as shown here - are kept in the wells separated by peelable seals in the area of the web 1.5 - here 1.1 and 1.2 - until they are activated on site.

A second exemplary embodiment is shown in FIG. 2. Here, the basic design is analogous to FIG. 1. The package is equipped with a cup 2.1, which contains a liquid medium. In the bowl 2.2 there is an absorbent insert 2.9 (flat cut). The bowls 2.1 and 2.2 are separated from one another by an area of the web 2.5 which is sealed with a peelable covering foil 2.4. The fixed seal 2.6 is guided around the bowl 2.1 up to about 1/3 of the bowl 2.2.

Pressing the bowl 2.1 opens the peel seal between cover foil 2.4 and web 2.5 between bowl 2.1 and 2.2 and the soaking medium from bowl 2.1 runs in bowl 2.2 and wets the insert 2.9. By pulling on a free peel tab 2.10, the cover film 2.4, which is peelable at the edge with the deep-drawn part 2.3, can be pulled open until the beginning of the fixed sealing 2.6 (which can be both flat and linear - see FIG. 1) and the impregnated insert 2.9 can be removed.

Hier ist als zu tränkendes Applikationsteil ein Stäbchen mit saugfähigem Kopf 3.9 in Napf 3.2 eingelegt.FIG. 3 shows a variant of the second exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2. Here, as the application part to be impregnated, a rod with an absorbent head 3.9 is placed in the bowl 3.2.

Figure 4 shows a third embodiment with an application of the multi-chamber pack which can be activated on site for the impregnation of absorbent, compressed inserts which, when an impregnation medium is taken up into the original form - i.e. before compressing - return.

The soaking medium is in the bowl 4.1, the absorbent compressed 4.9 intended for application is in the bowl 4.2. The size of the bowl 4.2 is such that the compressed 4.9 can expand fully when the impregnating medium is taken up. Pressing bowl 4.1 opens the defined peel seal in the area of web 4.5 between bowl 4.1 and bowl 4.2. The impregnation medium enters the bowl 4.2 and is sucked up by the compressed 4.9, which expands accordingly.

By pulling the peel tab 4.10 up to the flat or line-shaped solid seal 4.6, which is only brought up to the bowl 4.2, the now soaked and correspondingly expanded compressed 4.9 can be removed.

Das Loch 5.11 wird mittels eines Haftetikettes oder einer peelfähig aufgesiegelten Abdeckfolie 5.12 verschlossen.FIG. 5 shows a fourth exemplary embodiment of the multi-chamber pack which can be activated on site and in which the impregnation medium is located in cup 5.1. Bowl 5.2 accommodates a compressed 5.9 as an applicator, which expands accordingly when the impregnating medium is absorbed. Thermoformed and cover foils are sealed in a defined peelable manner in the area of the web 5.5 between the wells 5.1 and 5.2. The cover film 5.4 has a hole 5.11 above the bowl 5.2, which is slightly smaller than the compressed 5.9. Hole 5.11 is closed by means of an adhesive label or a peelable sealing film 5.12.

For activation, pressure is manually applied to the bowl 5.1, as a result of which the impregnating medium enters chamber 5.2. Compressed 5.9 absorbs the impregnation medium and strives to expand to its original size. By pulling off the cover film 5.12, the hole 5.11 above the compressed 5.9 is released. The compressed 5.9 can now expand completely and bulges out of the hole 5.11 like a mushroom, but remains locked due to the difference in size of the compressed / hole. The impregnation medium can be e.g. to be applied to the skin.

Der Verschluß wird ebenfalls mittels einer Abdeckfolie 6.12 bewirkt.FIG. 6 shows a first variant of the fourth exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5; the opening 6.11 is here in the deep-drawn part 6.3 at the bottom of the bowl 6.2. The closure is also effected by means of a cover film 6.12.

In Napf 7.2 wird ein Komprimat 7.9 eingelegt, welches - wie bereits bei den anderen Ausführungsbeispielen beschrieben - bei Flüssigkeitsaufnahme einen deutlichen Volumenzuwachs erfährt.FIG. 7 shows a second variant of the fourth exemplary embodiment for the use of the thermoformed pack which can be activated on site, the liquid impregnation medium 7.1 being accommodated in the bowl 7.1. In the bowl 7.2, a compressed 7.9 is inserted, which - as already described in the other exemplary embodiments - experiences a significant increase in volume when liquid is taken up.

Between bowl 7.1 and 7.2 there is the defined peelable seal in the area of web 7.5. Fixed sealing 2.6 runs flat or as a sealing line around chambers 7.1 and 7.2. In the deep-drawn part 7.3, an inwardly pointing mandrel 7.12 is formed, which serves to lock the compressed material 7.9. The bowl 7.2 is designed longer by the amount which is to be expected as an increase in compressed 7.9. In the area outside the compressed part 7.9, the deep-drawn part 7.3 is provided with a predetermined breaking point 7.13.

When activated by pressure on the bowl 7.1, the peelable seal opens in the area of the web 7.5, the impregnation medium enters the bowl 7.2 and is absorbed by the compressed 7.9. The compressed 7.9 expands and fills the previously free front space of the bowl 7.2.

By breaking at the predetermined breaking point 7.13, the section part 7.14 is folded away and an outer section of the compressed material 7.9 is exposed.

The medium is then applied by spreading this released section e.g. onto the skin.

The compressed product cannot be unintentionally removed from the now open chamber 7.2, since the mandrel 7.12 makes the locking. If removal is to be made possible, the mandrel is omitted.

Claims (12)

  1. Multiple-chamber container, more especially a two-chamber container, wherein a first chamber contains a first medium and a second chamber contains a second medium, said container including a deep-drawn part (1.3...7.3) which includes two bowls (1.1...7.1; 1.2...7.2), which are separated by means of a web (1.5...7.5) and are surrounded by a common edge, and said container having a top sheet (1.4...7.4), which is connected at least partially to the web, in such a manner that when pressure is applied to one of the chambers the communication between the two chambers is produced by removing the top sheet (1.4...7.4) from the web (1.5...7.5), wherein the edge resists this pressure, characterised in that the top sheet (1.4...7.4) and the thermoplastic deep-drawn part (1.3...7.3) include a single sealing medium, which creates a first sealing strength (1.5...7.5) by means of adapting the sealing parameters - temperature, pressure and sealing time - in a locally defined manner to the sealing face on the web, which first sealing strength corresponds to the one peelable connection between top sheet (1.4...7.4) and deep-drawn part (1.3...7.3), and said sealing medium creating a second sealing strength on the edge, which second sealing strength corresponds to that of a solid sealing between top sheet (1.4...7.4) and deep-drawn part (1.3...7.3).
  2. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 1, characterised in that the first sealing strength is graded over the width of the web in such a manner that the mean cross-section between web and top sheet increases as the pressure increases.
  3. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 1, characterised in that the bowl, in which the two media have come into contact (contact bowl), includes an opening region.
  4. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 3, characterised in that the bowl (1.1) includes a predetermined breaking point (1.7), which exposes a duct (1.8) as the opening region.
  5. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 3, characterised in that the seal strength in the region remote from the web (2.5) is selected in such a manner that the top sheet (2.4) is peelable and exposes the contact bowl (2.2; 3.2; 4.2) at least partially.
  6. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 3, characterised in that the contact bowl includes an opening, which is closed by means of a removable cover sheet (5.12, 6.12).
  7. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 6, characterised in that the opening is a break-through (6.11) in the contact bowl (6.2).
  8. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 6, characterised in that the opening is a hole (5.11) in the top sheet (5.4).
  9. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 1, characterised in that the first chamber contains a liquid and the second chamber contains an absorbent insert (.9).
  10. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 7 or 8 or 9, characterised in that the opening is dimensioned in such a manner that the insert is not removable.
  11. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 6 and 9, characterised
in that the insert is a compressed compound (5.9, 6.9) and, after the liquid has been added, partially swells out of the opening.
  12. Multiple-chamber container according to claim 10, characterised in that the contact bowl (7.2) includes a mandrel (7.12), which secures the insert (7.9) in its chamber.
