Description

The invention relates to signal flags and a signal system for motor racing, especially for marshals Racetracks.

As you know, they have in motor racing through the regulations prescribed mileage, among other things the task given to them monitor assigned section of the racetrack and provide drivers with certain information and instructions. For this purpose, each route post has a predetermined one Number, usually at least six, signal flags in different colors. By panning one of these The drivers will flag a specific racing situation displayed and a corresponding instruction or warning granted. Of the signal flag colors mean "yellow" Accident, danger and no overtaking, "red" termination of the race, Have "Blue" overtaken, "Green" free travel, "White" Emergency vehicles or slower racing vehicles are on the Track and "yellow-red" pollution of the road, oil. In order to the drivers of the respective signal color with certainty must be able to recognize the respective location of the route post are in the driver's direct field of vision.

For safety reasons, today's race tracks have widened side lintels and flexible barriers between the route and the audience. Since that too Marshals positioned outside of these crash rooms have become apparent by increasing the distances the dangers between the drivers and the marshals increases that a selected signal flag waving Missed marshals or not recognized in time becomes. These dangers are, for example, in so-called rain races particularly blatant because of vehicles in front turns the road wetness into a fine spray that significantly impairs the driver’s vision. There are also special problems with motorcycle races, because the driver’s field of vision is sometimes extreme Cornering is significantly restricted.

The object of the invention is to increase the visibility effect signals displayed by the marshals and to increase the safety of motor races.

This object is achieved through the use of the claim 1 indicated signal flags solved. By provision the light elements preferably directly on the flagpole and by emitting the generated high-energy light The visibility effect is shown in the color of the flag the swiveled signal flag even with unfavorable ones Visibility increased significantly, so that anyway highly stressed drivers a certain situation detect signals that characterize the course of the race more reliably and react accordingly in their driving behavior can.

A further increase in the visibility effect is according to an expedient development of the invention achieved that on the respective flag stem individually or preferably arranged in groups as lighting elements electric flashlights are designed that more or generate less focused halogen light. Like for example from reflectors on airplanes or also from safety equipment the road traffic is known Visibility effect of the lights through the repetitive Flashing increased. For the same purpose, the respective colors of the flag cloth and possibly also the flag stem be reflective and / or phosphorescent, so that due to the partial illumination by the Turn signal lights become widely visible.

Simple handling of the signal flags is advisable in that each flag stem has its own energy supply for the lighting elements e.g. in the form of advantageously rechargeable electric batteries has, which by means of a flagpole next to the handle arranged on / off switch with the respective Luminous elements can be connected. On the other hand, there is of course the possibility of every single flag via a cable that is as light as possible with a control unit and connect their energy supply.

It is useful for one each from e.g. six flags existing Signal flag set provided a special storage that separately marked brackets, e.g. in the form of Clamps, for the individual signal flags. The single Elements of these brackets can be electrical Switching functions must be assigned so that during filing times the batteries of the individual signal flags are recharged can be.

The invention further relates to a signal system for Motor racing based on the predetermined number of inventions trained signal flags based and additional to those marked on a common shelf in Flashing signal flags with turn signals shining in the colors of the signal flags as well as an electrical control unit for the operation of the Signal flags and the turn signal system.

The flashing system is automatically activated at the same time as the respective one Signal flag switched on and shines with high Light intensity in the colors of the respective signal flag in Direction of the approaching vehicles. The blinking effect of this preferably from groups of flashers of the same color Flashing system increases the visibility of the Mileage signals given. This is useful Turn signal mounted on its own stand so that it also set up at a certain distance from the marshals can be. The electrical control unit is not used only the electrical energy supply, but coordinated also the switching on and off of the respective signal flag and the associated turn signal group of the turn signal system.

One in terms of simple and reliable operation special aspect of the signal system according to the invention in a special training of the storage for the signal flags, whose brackets also have an electrical switching function have so that by removing a flag the other Flashlights provided and the associated Spotlight groups of the turn signal system can be switched on. As soon as the respective flag from the marshals again is inserted into the associated holder of the tray a switch-off activation and thus a switch-off the flashing beacon of the signal flag and also the turn signal system.

In a particularly advantageous development of the invention the signal system with the control center of the racetrack communicatively connected, e.g. over laid cables, Direct radio or satellite. Through this communication link is every actuation of a signal flag by the Automatically transfer the marshals to the control center, so that the race management is always aware of all activities of the Track marshals and thus informed about the entire course of the race becomes. On the other hand, there is this communication link the race management also the possibility of the respective Track marshals sound or visual instructions too issue, for example after serious accidents on everyone Route section directly to the red or yellow signal flag pan, either the impending dangers or the demolition signal to the drivers of the race almost simultaneously. In addition, there is also the possibility that the Race control over the respective control units of the used Number of signal systems for certain turn signals on the respective flag trays activated to the marshals in this way to indicate that he is so marked Signal flag should pivot, while the blinker and also the corresponding spotlight group of the Turn signal system can be activated. For the purpose of data or Signal transmission is the electrical control unit of the signal system expediently with a receiving and / or transmitting unit provided for the optical or acoustic signals.

Another essential aspect of the invention is that the signal system according to the invention for the individual Mileage with the computer system of the control center are linked so that those transmitted by these signal systems Data stored in the computer system and together can be processed with further data records. These others For example, records can be of induction loops originate in predetermined sections of the racetrack are misplaced and each run over by one of the racing vehicles by interacting with the vehicle's own Register the transponder specifically. By the programmed The processing of the data obtained in this way can affect the entire race electronically recorded and also for a later one Recovery saved and finally on suitable Monitors are displayed, in addition to the previous ones used TV screens. In addition there is the important possibility in practice that the regulations over the entire course of the race even after the end of each Rennens can be checked, for example in the Framework of opposition proceedings and / or for the imposition of Punitive measures against individual drivers. This also applies to Training laps in which the drivers also determined Must follow the rules. This is how timed training is done Lap best times not recognized if during the Training trip of one of the marshals signaling a danger yellow signal flag. Because according to the invention showing or activating this yellow flag from the control center's computer system is registered and in addition to the computer system also those signals from the in induction loops routed to the roadway be due to the vehicle-specific transponder can be generated by driving over by a suitable Linking and processing of this data received be clearly identified and archived when a driver has committed a rule violation, e.g. after panning a yellow signal flag overtakes a driver in front Has.

The signal flag shown has the dimensions of conventional ones Signal flags for marshals and consists of one lightweight flag handle 2 with attached flag cloth 3 of a color prescribed in the regulations. At the Flag stem 2 are several flashing lights 1 attached Flashes of light of high luminosity in the color of the flag cloth radiate. As the light generator, the blinker 1 are preferably so-called halogen lamps with suitable reflectors used. Compared to conventional signal flags is the visibility effect by the blinking of the Spotlight 1 and thanks to its high light output many times over increased. To further improve the visibility effect to achieve, is also the flag stem in dyed the color of the flag cloth, the used ones Color reflective and / or fluorescent properties to have. To power the blinker 1 are expediently in a handle 7 of the flag stem Batteries 8 shown in dash-dotted lines arranged about electrical running inside the flagstalk Cable and a switch 4 connected to the turn signals 1 are. The flashlights 1 can also be powered done via a highly flexible cable 9, the flagstalk connects to a control unit 5. On flag stick 2, Appropriately at the transition between the handle 7 and the actual one Handle 2, a contact switch 10 is arranged, that when the signal flag is removed from a - in the following described in more detail - bracket the batteries 8 via the switched on switch 4 with the flashlights 1 connects. You can also use this switch contact 10 and the holders of the flag tray the rechargeable Batteries 8 of the charging current are supplied.

In the drawing, a flag tray 6 is also schematic shown, the releasable inclusion of each Regulations predetermined set on - here six - signal flags of prescribed colors. The flag shelf has a substructure, here as feet 11 is shown, but also from a fixed or collapsible Frame, stand or the like. Can exist. On the top of a carrier 12 are clamp brackets 13 each provided in pairs, each with a signal flag with e.g. their flag stem 2 is pinched. A not illustrated end member of the carrier 12 is also with corresponding provided in pairs in which the respective flags clamped with the end part of their flag stem become. The tray 6 points for each of their total seven recording segments 14 flashing lights 15 on the illustrated embodiment in the clamps are integrated. The turn signals produce a colored one Light that matches the color of the associated flag. Furthermore, the shelf is in each flag segment 12 one manually operated electrical switch 17 is provided, by operating the marshals one or several flag segments of the shelf, here e.g. the seventh Flag segment on the right outside, can put out of operation.

The signal system shown also includes a turn signal system 20, the six in the illustrated embodiment Groups of flashing lights 21 arranged one above the other having. These flashlights 21 preferably contain So-called halogen lamps with reflectors, each group of spotlights a light in the color of one of the signal flags emits with high light intensity. The flashing lights 21 are fastened in a housing 22, which may have a Turntable-shaped support plate 23 on a stand 24 rests. By appropriate training of the lower part of the stand the turn signal system is particularly good at one of the drivers Visible location also at a distance from the flag shelf 6 or be set up to the marshals' house.

The control of the functional sequences of the signal flags and The turn signal system 20 is also carried out with the aid of a control unit 5, which is designed here as an independent carrying device is, but also e.g. in the base of the flag tray 6 can be installed. On a visible board 25 of this control unit 5 colored lights 26 are provided, which in the activated State in the color of an assigned signal flag come on. The control unit 5 is also via a cable 27 with the flag rest 6 and via a further cable 28 connected to the turn signal system 20, these cables 27, 28 the power supply and also the transmission of control commands serve. To power the entire system serves a network connection 29 leading to the control unit 5. The control unit 5 for data and information exchange with the - not shown - control center of the The racetrack has cables 30 and an antenna 31 for wireless transmission via direct radio or satellite radio.

The shown in the drawing and described above Signal system is operated in the following way.

Before the start of the race or training session the components of the system, i.e. the flag tray 6, the Control unit 5 and also the turn signal system on the by the race management the intended route section. Because modern racetracks have a variety of underfloor The control units can have cable channels 5 via the control cable 30 to the computer system of the control center and connected via the cable 29 to the supply network become. Data transmission using the antennas 31 of the control units is usually not possible because the radio frequencies required for this are usually occupied. If in the course of the race the respective marshals of the The race director receives instructions from the control center For example, he learns that the race will be stopped the red signal flag shown in the drawing from the extreme left flag segment 14 of the flag tray 6. With removing this flag from the electrical with the Control unit 5 connected clamp holders 13 becomes the clamp switch 10 activated on the flag stem and the 7 the flag arranged electric batteries are with the flashlights 1 automatically connected so that this Turn signal lamp 1 immediately after the removal process come on. At the same time, they become the extreme left Group belonging to the red radiating blinker 21 of the Turn signal system 20 switched on. Because of the luminosity on the one hand the blinker 1 of the swiveled from the marshals Signal flag and also the much more luminous Flasher 21 in the immediate field of vision of the driver aligned flashing system 24 ensures that the drivers even in extremely unfavorable visibility conditions recognize the signals given by the marshal. With the Replace the flag 2 in the associated clamp holder 13 the flag shelf 6, the blinker 1 of the signal flag and also the turn signal lamps 21 of the turn signal system 24 are switched off. At the same time, however, there is an electrical connection between the batteries 8 and the control unit 5 made so that these batteries 8 in the flag state to be charged.

In certain racing situations, the respective marshals can of course also decide independently that one or other signal flag must be pivoted, for example if the roadway is dirty in this section of the route. In this case too, the removal of the the respective signal flag from its storage 6 the turn signals 1 on the flag stick 2 and the turn signals 21 of the turn signal system 20 automatically in the manner described above actuated. In addition, however, this removal process is described in Form of corresponding information data via the cable 30 or the antenna 31 in the computer system of the control center transferred so that the race management about this process can be informed by appropriate signal. If on the other hand Instructions from the race director from the control center given to individual or all marshals transmission is also carried out via the control cable 30 or the antenna to the respective control units 5, the lamp corresponding to the respective instruction 26 of the control unit is turned on. marshals indicate which flag he is taking out of the tray got to. Of course, the instructions from the Race management also acoustically to the respective marshals about e.g. Headphones are transmitted.

The use of the signal system described above enables for the first time one of the usual TV recordings independent monitoring and recording of the entire course of the race of a race. Most of them are in motor racing Vehicles equipped with an individual transponder and in the lines themselves there is a multitude of induction loops laid. When driving over the induction loops data characteristic of this vehicle are sent to the central computer and also transmitted to the racing team’s IT system, so that this vehicle is on almost every section of the route is detected. This data can be timed are processed in the central computer. Since that too Data on the actions of the marshals from above Signal system described this central computer from the marshals through their Signaling controlled or influenced racing processes in the computer with those obtained from the induction loops Data are linked. The results of this data processing reflect the exact course of the entire race. This not only enables more precise monitoring of the individual vehicles during the race, e.g. based of displays on monitors, but also opens up the possibility to reproduce this course of the race after the end of the race, for example in opposition proceedings and / or when imposing punitive measures on individuals Drivers. For example, based on the processed and documented data without further proof whether at shown yellow signal flag a best lap time in qualifying has been achieved, which are then not counted can. So far, such events were only possible through TV recordings controllable. The same applies to the case that a driver to be lapped after showing the blue signal flag the faster vehicle within does not miss two or three rounds, which so far has been insufficient could be detected. Through the combined acquisition the signaling of the marshals and the signaling from the induction loops can now work properly determine whether such a lapping or Overtaking process within the prescribed two to three Laps has been completed or not.

Da jeder Streckenposten eine eigene Kennung hat und jede Flagge eine eigenen Adresse, kann der Rennverlauf auf der gesamten Strecke nahezu lückenlos überwacht und aufgezeichnet werden..Shortly after the start of a race, the roadmen lose through pit stops and changes in position Vehicles the overview of the racing events. information and instructions for showing a particular flag so far they have received it via radio, but this is due to extremely high volume of the racing cars passing by has proven to be unreliable. With the invention The race management can signal the respective route post now by the on its control unit 5 or also flashing lights arranged for signal storage a certain one provided with flashing signals according to the invention Signal flag and the corresponding flashlights of the Instruct the turn signal system. In the central IT system not just this instruction, but also the execution of it Instruction recorded by the marshal, see above that the activity of the individual marshals during the course of the race or afterwards by the race management can be controlled. The respective marshals recognizes these instructions either by acoustic signals in his headphones (voice instructions) or also by flashing the respective lights on the control unit 5 or on the experienced filing 6. When this goes out Light signal, the marshal has the signal flag again put back into the filing, this process also is registered in the central computer. Because every marshal has its own identifier and each flag has its own address, the course of the race on the entire route can almost be continuously monitored and recorded ..

The signal system shown in Fig. 2 corresponds in its basic structure is only roughly schematic 1 shown, the same components marked with the same reference numerals as in Fig. 1 are. A conventional staff is also shown Computer (PC) 32 with monitor 33, processing unit 34 and keypad 35, and one connected to this PC 32 Printer. Furthermore, a headphone 37 for the Route post shown, the cable 38 to the Electrics of the tray 6 is connected. In this version serve the switches 17 on the frame 12 of the tray 6 for switching the turn signal system 20 on or off in special cases.

The invention is not based on the illustrated embodiments limited. So the different assemblies of the signal system is not - as shown - as portable individual devices are designed, but they can also as a complete system either at fixed operating points or can also be mounted on mobile platforms. Further is the application of the signal system according to the invention not limited to the so-called circuit races, but also extends to road races, rallies or the like, in the latter case the fixed installation the signal flag storage 6, the control unit 5 and possibly also of the personal computer 32 on a common platform, e.g. also on a special vehicle.
