Description

The invention relates to a sub-caliber floor with a dropping sabot and a projectile body that is held in the sabot.

In the case of sub-caliber bullets, as known for example from EP-A-0 624 774 , the sabot generally consists of a sabot jacket made of plastic and a sabot body made of metal. The projectile body (penetrator) is usually an arrow projectile, which is screwed to the sabot body and whose end provided with a stabilizing wing protrudes from the rear of the sabot. The sabot jacket and the sabot body are divided into segments such that predetermined breaking points are formed, with the result that the sabot jacket and the sabot body are thrown off immediately after the launch.

EP-A-0 645 600 discloses a detachable sabot for a sub-caliber floor, which is formed in one piece and thus combines the sabot jacket and the sabot body in one piece, the advantages of having no separate sabot body over the prior art mentioned above be achieved.

Starting from the last-mentioned state of the art, the task is set, sub-caliber floors to propose according to the generic term that one of the projectile body of the have the first mentioned prior art different projectile bodies and are particularly suitable as practice ammunition.

This object is achieved by the invention specified in claim 1 . Here, the projectile body is designed as a shattering penetrator, which is composed of several parts, predetermined breaking points being provided between the parts. According to an advantageous development of the invention, the parts engage in one another at the predetermined breaking points while maintaining a distance and are connected to one another by means of a heat-resistant, fiber-reinforced, thermoplastic.

The advantages achieved with the invention can be seen in that by optimizing the Design of the crush penetrator on the one hand the crush penetrator in the weapon and the launch shock survive as well as on the trajectory at low angles of attack does not break. On the other hand, the optimization ensures that the Impact at the target, especially on sand at a flat angle, the rebound effect (ricochet effect) greatly reduced or even avoided, which is due to the breakage of the Shattering penetrator occurring reduction in mass and increase in air resistance is achieved.

1 to 3 , 1 denotes a sabot jacket of a sabot and 2 denotes a shattering penetrator held in the sabot jacket 1 . The sabot, which is known in a similar form from EP-A-0 645 600, consists of a high-temperature, fiber-reinforced, thermoplastic which engages in retaining grooves 3 of the penetration penetrator 2 . A plurality of longitudinal grooves 4 are arranged on the sabot , distributed uniformly on the circumference and running continuously from the front to approximately the center of a guide belt 5 . The longitudinal grooves 4 can, for example, have a cross section similar to the longitudinal grooves of the aforementioned prior art. The longitudinal grooves 4 form segments 6 which are connected to one another by predetermined breaking points 7 . At the front end of the sabot a circumferential groove 8 is provided for the attachment of a protective hood 9 , while at the rear end of the sabot a further circumferential groove 10 is arranged for the attachment of a cartridge case.

The smashing penetrator 2 consists of a projectile tip 20 and a first, second, third and fourth part 21 , 22 , 23 and 24 . Predetermined breaking points 25 are provided between the parts 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 . The predetermined breaking points 25 are formed by cylindrical projections 26 located on the parts 21, 23, 24 , which engage in cylindrical recesses 27 of the adjacent parts while maintaining a distance. The distance determining the predetermined breaking point thickness can be generated, for example, by cams (not shown) attached to the end faces of the projections 26 or by the injection mold during the production process. Retaining grooves 28 and 29 are provided on the cylindrical lugs 26 and in the cylindrical recesses 27 . The parts 21, 22, 23 and 24 are connected to one another at the predetermined breaking points 25 by means of a plastic, the retaining grooves 28, 29 serving for anchoring. The projectile tip 20, which is made of the same plastic, is arranged on the first, foremost part 21 and, according to the first exemplary embodiment ( FIG. 1 ), is connected to the predetermined breaking points 25 via a tubular channel 31 running through the parts 21, 22 and 23 in the projectile axis 30 . The part of the channel 31 adjoining the projectile tip 20 has, for example, a larger diameter than this, but can also be of the same size, for example, and, like the channel 31 itself, is provided with retaining grooves 32 and 33 , respectively. The fourth, rearmost part 24 has a bore 34 in which a tracer set 35 is accommodated.

According to FIGS. 2 and 3 , the projectile tip 20 arranged on the first, foremost part 21 has a pin 36 or 37 , which engages in a bore 38 or 39 of the first, foremost part 21 provided with retaining grooves, the pin 36 and the bore 38 extends into the extension 26 of the first, foremost part 21 ( FIG. 2 ).

4 , the shattering penetrator 2 consists of a projectile tip 50 and a first, second and third part 51 , 52 and 53. Between the parts 51, 52, 53 predetermined breaking points 54 are provided. The predetermined breaking points 54 are formed by frustoconical lugs 55 located on the parts 52 , 53 , which engage in a frustoconical recesses 56 of the adjacent parts while maintaining a distance. The distance determining the predetermined breaking point thickness can be generated, for example, by cams (not shown) attached to the end faces of the projections 55 or by the injection mold during the production process. Retaining grooves 57 and 58 are provided on the frustoconical lugs 55 and in the frustoconical recesses 56 . The parts 51 , 52 and 53 are connected to one another at the predetermined breaking points 54 by means of a plastic, the retaining grooves 57 , 58 serving for anchoring. The projectile tip 50 arranged on the first, foremost part 51 has a pin 59 which engages in a bore 60 of the first, foremost part 51 provided with retaining grooves 61 . In the third, rearmost part 53 , a bore 62 is provided, in which a tracer 63 is accommodated.

5 has three differently designed parts 71 , 72 , 73 and predetermined breaking points 74 compared to the crushing penetrator described with reference to FIG. 4 . The predetermined breaking points 74 are formed by pins 75 located on the parts 71 and 72 , which engage in bores 76 of the adjacent parts while maintaining a distance. The ratio of the pin diameter to the pin length is considerably smaller than the ratio of the shoulder diameter to the shoulder length according to the explanations according to FIGS . 1 , 2 and 3 . The distance or the predetermined breaking point thickness can be generated as already described above. Retaining grooves 77 and 78 are arranged on the pins 75 and in the bores 76 . The edges of the pins 75 and bores 76 are chamfered, for example, although they can also be round or sharp-edged. In the third, rearmost part 73 , a bore 79 is provided, in which a tracer set 80 is accommodated.

In FIG. 6 , 86 denotes a pin provided on the parts 71 , 72 , on which a disk-shaped extension 85 is arranged. The disk-shaped extension 85 prevents plastic from penetrating between part of the bores 76 and the pins 86 of the parts 71 , 72 during the manufacture of the shattering penetrator. The pin 86 has a significantly smaller diameter than the pin 75 according to the embodiment according to FIG. 5 , so that a relatively large free space is created and the smashing penetrator can break more easily when the target is reached.

According to FIG. 7 , rings 65 are provided on the frustoconical projections 55 of the parts 52 , 53 , with which rings the distance between the parts 51 , 52 , 53 and the predetermined breaking point thickness can be set. As in the embodiment according to FIG. 6 , this creates a free space not filled with plastic.

According to FIG. 7a , the frustoconical projections 55 have rings 66 , by means of which the distance between the parts 51 , 52 , 53 and the predetermined breaking point thickness can be set, similarly to FIG. 7 . The lugs 55 protrude into frustoconical recesses 67 which are longer than the lugs 55 , a free space not being filled with plastic also being formed.

The parts 21 to 24 , 51 , 52 , 53 and 71 , 72 , 73 described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 7 consist for example of steel, but can also be made of brass, bronze or plastic filled with bronze powder or chips or tungsten powder . The plastic used for the projectile tips 20 , 50 and the predetermined breaking points 25 , 54 and 74 is preferably a high-temperature, fiber-reinforced, thermoplastic.

The end walls of the parts which delimit the predetermined breaking points 25 , 54 and 74 do not have to be parallel, as shown, but can run obliquely to one another, so that the predetermined breaking points between the peripheral surface of the smashing penetrator 2 and the shoulders 26 , 55 or pin 75 and the Recesses 27 , 56 or bores 76 can have a V-shaped cross section, for example.

It is also within the scope of the invention that the shattering penetrator 2 can also consist of more or less (at least two) parts instead of four parts ( FIGS. 1 to 3 ) or three parts ( FIGS. 4 and 5 ).

The lugs 55 and recesses 56 ( FIGS. 4 , 7 and 7a ) can also be conical instead of frustoconical.
