The epilation appliance as claimed in claim 10, characterized in that the electrodes, in particular the clamping elements (16), of the first group (18) with negative potential are in spaced relation to each other in the circumferential direction of the clamping cylinder (14) in such a way that one electrode, in particular one clamping element (16), is in contact with the skin practically all the time, and/or the electrodes, in particular the clamping elements (16), of the second group (70) with positive potential are in spaced relation to each other in the circumferential direction of the clamping cylinder (14) in such manner that the distance formed between two consecutive electrodes in the direction of rotation (72) of the cylinder (14) is such that temporarily none of the electrodes, in particular none of the clamping elements (16) of the second group (20) is in contact with the skin (78).
  12. The epilation appliance as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that provision is made for a control device, in particular an electric/electronic circuit, which controls the voltage supply to the second electrode (20), should said second electrode be in permanent contact with the skin (78), and/or which reduces the electric current after the second electrode (20) touches the skin (78).
  13. A method for the epilation of the human skin, involving in particular a step for reducing the sense of pain during the extraction of hairs by means of an electrically operable epilation appliance with at least one electrode, characterized in that an electric spark (76) is produced on the skin (78) directly prior to the extraction of the hairs.
  14. The method as claimed in claim 13, characterized in that at least one electrode (18, 20, 28, 30, 32, 46) is connected to a voltage source (70), in particular for electric voltages greater than 0.8 KV, and said at least one electrode (18, 20, 28, 30, 32, 46) is positioned at least temporarily a distance from the skin (78) so that the spark (76) is produced in the air gap between the skin (78) and the electrode (18, 20, 28, 30, 32, 46).
  15. The method as claimed in claim 13 or 14, characterized in that at least two electrodes (18, 20, 28, 30, 32, 46) are connected to a high-voltage source (70), in particular for voltages of between 0.8 and 3.0 KV, and/or at least one first electrode (18, 30, 32) is brought, at least temporarily, into contact with the skin (78), and/or at least one second electrode (20, 28, 46) is positioned, at least temporarily, a distance from the skin (78) so that the spark is produced in the air gap between the skin and the first and/or second electrode (18, 20, 28, 30, 32, 46).
  16. The device and the method as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the device for reducing the sense of pain is operable to produce an electric spark (76) on the skin prior to the extraction of the hairs, said spark (76) provoking an additional pain corresponding in its pain characteristic to the pain of epilation, but preferably having a lower pain intensity.
